Yes, the reviewers, and the manufacturers are sizing their phones up, like everyone wants to carry a smaller sized television. The camera just blows me away, makes me much more aware of taking pictures in my daily life, and I am always 1000% pleased with the way they are coming out. Love the build with the glass back, it feels so simple and premium. NOT a fan of the gestures as well. I wish they would have given more options like OnePlus did with the 6 when they rolled out Pie. You can hide the buttons, have all three, or just use 2. And, with Nova Launcher, you can use gestures to swipe up anywhere on the home screen for the app drawer...it just seemed much more fluid. But, I am anxious to see how things morph when Google starts pushing out updates. And I agree, battery life is ok, but definitely thought it would be better...

Michael, great review video. Here's my story: I'm old school in that I buy a new cell phone once every four or five years, so I've never been one to care about having the latest and greatest all the time. I need my phone to do the things that I have to do, like make phone calls, text, check email, play a game, and once in a great while check something on the internet. It needs to be a serviceable, easy-to-use phone and doesn't need to perform at the highest levels the way I want my desktop computer to perform. Since that's where I'm coming from as a buyer, the Pixel 3 easily meets my needs and I've been very happy with it since buying it two days ago. I actually bought the Samsung S9 when my old Motorola Droid finally died on me, and while I think the S9 is a good phone I took it back and exchanged it for the Pixel 3 for two reasons: the much better camera and the clean android experience with no bloatware. Do I wish it had more RAM? More customization of icons or themes? Sure, some of those things would be nice but its snappy enough and does what I need it to do, and as a serious photography hobbyist I love the camera, so I'm very pleased with the phone so far. I actually find it kind of amusing to see people making a big deal out of where a little icon is on the home screen, or that something isn't perfectly symmetrical. But if that's what people want to obsess over then more power to them, we each like what we like, I guess.

@djsnowpdx6 жыл бұрын
Except for the "cables in the box" argument that every KZbinr brings up, the iPhone XR has all the benefits you listed in the summary, but better. It's faster, less glitchy, with much better "hardware so it can evolve," an emphasis on privacy, and software updates for five or more years, rather than two years of new versions and three of security patches. Plus it is cheaper, so you can buy a separate fast charger if you want one so badly, and extra storage is also cheaper. The colors of the XR are far more interesting. I'd argue the camera on the XR is comparable to the Pixel 3, and the XR can show a live preview of portrait bokeh, which no Android can do, but which every phone with a portrait mode should do. Again, you can record unlimited 4K video at 60 FPS, and the photos and videos will save to your photos library properly, rather than simply disappearing. Forgive me if I am totally unimpressed with the Pixel 3, let alone the XL. EDIT: I almost forgot: the XR display is brighter, and the phone still has better battery life. A built-in library of wallpapers does not change any of this. In fact, those wallpapers are already uploaded to the internet, and free for anyone to download and enjoy, whereas iPhones have live and dynamic wallpapers you just can't get anywhere else. I sport the original Live fish wallpaper on my iPhone 6s from back in iOS 9, and it shifts under my finger when I press on the screen.

Software quality in terms of attention to detail has gotten worse on both Android and iOS which is disappointing. Speed doesn't matter as much anymore because we've gotten to the point where phones are so fast getting any faster has diminishing returns. Pixel isn't anymore glitchy then the iPhone XR. Ram management on the Pixel 3 is disappointing. Pixel 3 has a vastly better cameras than the iPhone XR but it still has the best video capture. Screens on both phones are meh disappointing in their own way. And both phones are priced way higher than they're worth for the purpose of maximizing profit with quantity demanded which is understandable for a smart business.

Both became so slow the about a year out and battery life became so bad, that I actually considered going back to IOS this year. So here comes the Google Pixel 3. The last 2 weeks have been great with the Pixel 3. The phone is snappy and the battery is really good. I didn't "need" amazing. But I needed to get through a day mostly without having to charge up. The Pixel 3 and its larger sibling is such a disappointment. There is absolutely nothing that sets it apart from the competition, especially with all the great devices we get from Chinese OEMs as of late. Yes, the camera is great, but it's not wildly better this year than what other flagship devices are packing. The notch on the XL variant is horrendous, the white space philosophy of Google is the exact opposite of what you would like to see on an OLED display (the implementation of dark mode is sadly subpar and inconsistent), and with Google pushing other OEMs to pursue Android skins closer and closer to stock, it beats the purpose of having a Pixel device. Also, flagship phones these days are so quick and snappy, so the speed benefits of a Pixel device are mostly left unnoticeable.

@Patrick i do agree that the notch is subjective, but I just can't understand how come the notch even came to be realized as a justified way of eliminating bezels. By eliminating bezels, what you essentially do is introduce a new problem that is far more distracting than the problem you tried to solve to begin with. I wonder how phones would have looked like in 2018 if Apple had not introduced a design with a notch for the iPhone X in late 2017.
@cosmingosav6 жыл бұрын
@Patrick All the pixel controversy aside, I have nothing against the pixel lineup. I know i am not the target audience for that and i can respect other people who are. But when I am paying top dollar for a piece of tech like that, I don't want to "get used" to a design which is arguably the shittiest in the industry at this moment. Poor design is not an excuse. If OnePlus can do it, google can step it's shit up.

This was the perfect summation of the device imo. It's made for the no nonsense usage most people prefer, no tweaking, no messing, just using the phone as a tool for communication, entertainment and such, and it delivers on that. Also agreed on the colour point, was really hoping they would release the turquoise colour they teased on the Japanese website. Though one thing that should be mentioned about the Pixel line of phones: they don't require you to upgrade yearly by bringing the most important features to older generations barring any hardware limitations, which is just amazing value add if you like to keep phones for longer than a year or like to pass it on to a relative. Also, they don't drop in price (just like iPhones) permanently in that year, which is bad for patient buyers, but good if you want to sell or want to buy the phone at any time (discounts obviously still happen)

Purchased a Pixel 3 XL(will be referred as P3XL) and have been using it ever since. 1. Screen brightness is OK under direct sunlight, but nowhere near iPhone Xs Max or Note 9. 2. LTE speed and signal strength are fine, but in an environment with weaker signal, P3XL kicks itself into 3G/H/H+ mode too easily and prohibits me from making a regular phone call. I have no issue with P2XL, Note 8/9, iPhone X/Xs Max under this circumstance. By the way, I'm using T-mobile Band 2/4/12 in southern California. 3. WiFi speed is fine, but signal strength(especially on 5GHz) is slightly weaker. In addition, when an app(facebook, Chrome, Google News, even Amazon) is trying to use WiFi connection, it feels like "pausing" itself for a brief moment before it actually connects. 4. Battery life is only Ok. Barely qualified as a daily driver. Let's see if November update may fix some issues.

Love the video! I moved to the pixel line with the second generation. I love front facing speakers on a phone, that is what drew me, but the bonus of a great camera was a bonus. I went from the pixel 2xl to the 3Xl without any regrets. I love this phone and the last without a case. Since this phone is glass, I use a case outside just to be secured about drops. The notch, oh the notch? The design should have been smaller, or the XL should have been set up like the pixel. I feel that the design of this phone will last longer than most designs, due to it's simplicity. When is see iPhones or Galaxy phones that are over a few years old, I think, those are still around. This phone will wear it's age well. No need to touch on the software and it's capabilities, it is implicit.

I mostly tend to agree with your reviews but this one not so much. Even if we use the assumption that the average customer doesn't really care about all those crazy features from companies like Samsung, Pixel 3 even fails in basic tasks. Pixel 3 has horrible quality control and over the past week it was pretty much constant defects after defects and I'm sure nobody would want to put up with that. Lack of a headphone jack also adds unnecessarily complications for anyone who just wants to plug their headphones and play instead of having to deal with dongles and other annoying stuff. Pixel 3 even falls short in video by having a really bad mic and also lacks of 4K 60fps which everyone else has (4K may not be sth most people care about but come on this is supposed to be a camera based phone). All of this combined with a very high price tag make overall Pixel 3 and 3 XL really bad phones.

I don't know, the XR might be too low spec in some areas. The XS is more comparable. I switched from my iPhone 6+ to the Pixel 2 XL. I miss some stuff from apple, but I wouldn't necessarily say the iPhone is a much better choice. They both have their own unique tradeoffs.

I usually do not comment on videos, but man! Your videos are aesthetically pleasing, you rock! For a 800 dollar phone (+tax in many countries), the compromises we have to undergo for this pixel camera experience are too much. 1. The 4gb ram and poor memory management 2. the very scratch-able back panel 3. unimpressive screen 4. the hugeeeee notch in Pixel 3 xl 5. The out of box 10w charging compatibility with only pixel stand and no other wireless charger I hate it when a company mocks apple for something ( removal of headphone jack or notch) and then adopt that thing. Google is not cool anymore in pixel hardware, unfortunately. Set a standard and adhere by it ( Like samsung maybe?)
