Manifest V3 is easily the most controversial Chrome update, breaking Ad Blockers and Tracker Blockers on Chrome and all Chromium browsers.
Switch to Firefox or Safari as they are not affected by Manifest V3.
Manifest V3 will come out in June 2024.

Louis Rossman said it best, that he just doesn't understand how people are not supposed to use adblockers(recommended by the literal FBI for safe internet usage), when a majority of ads that google adsense shows you have malicious links in them.
@peoplez129
@peoplez129 5 күн бұрын
And the worst part is even a cursory glance makes it obvious these ads are scams. So it's clear that Google is literally not reviewing these ads directly, the entire ad system is clearly on autopilot. I'd even go as far to say that not only do they know, they're in on it not just to make money, but to launder money. That's the only explanation that makes sense, because they're clearly not making money from the ads themselves, they're making it from the people who get scammed, and from scam ad makers funneling dark money into Google. Or in other words, most of these scam ads are fake, not meant for anyone to really fall for them, but rather, they exist simply to have a reason to send money Google's way, and that's how the money is laundered.

it’s mostly the discomfort of “why the fuck is this setting called this when it’s called this in the other browser”, which can cause you distress over a longer period of time than three minutes, just not quite all at once maybe a month down the line i’ll be like “hey where the fuck did this feature go” and i’ll have to rephrase a search query for like 5-10 minutes until i find out what it’s called on the new browser. yeah it’s not that hard to switch browsers but as with any change, it’s definitely never just three minutes of discomfort because you never know what features you’ll miss

The biggest issue with ads is how they are vetted. Or rather the lack thereof. It used to be that ads were images or clips hosted locally on the website servers of the website you were visiting. So you were going to say microsoft and they had an ad on the side, that image was hosted on microsoft's server. Sometime in the early 2000s, this method was replaced by ad agencies who you would put a little code into your website and the ads would come from the ad agencies servers. Eventually this got 'smarter' and they started sending ads based on browsing history by looking through your cookies. This was a bit of a breach of privacy that only got worse over time as the methods of collecting data got more indepth, more intrusive, and such data was being stored and sold. The worst part was the ad agencies would not vet the ads they were displaying. You could see links to fake companies that could be phishing attempts to get information and steal identity by posing as real businesses, but also the ads were (and still do) had scripts on them that could hijack certain functionalities of your browser and install malware onto your computer. Allowing ads after they were no longer hosted by local servers for websites was always a security risk for the users and ad blockers also has the benefit of blocking the scripts so that users' computers were protected. With the update to chromium trying to remove ad blockers, they are putting many more computers at risk and users at risk for things like data corruption, malware infection, and identity theft.

It’s railroading users into walled gardens they don’t want after finding market dominance, websites are developing sites that only work for it, despite years of effort towards open standards that all browsers match, and it’s not even the fastest anymore. another person said the same thing (about vivaldi) on lemmy, so im just gonna copy paste my comment on that (im less polite on forums, so sry for that) yeah but its not the same, sure you could mod your router or use a pihole to get adblocking, but it is not the same convenience as extensions, and by far ublock origin is the best adblocker no arguments raised. moreover companies can't really do much when they are completely reliant on chromium, and they can't do much except pulling PR stunts and try to sound like they are doing something while all they're doing is to merge commits from upstream chromium once in a while one example is the "we will continue to support v2" stunt by brave, which is not possible as they have 0 experience maintaining a browser, also vivaldi is **absolutely proprietary**

I would recommend Linux Mint if you are new to it, that distribution is designed for users used to Windows. I moved to it recently and actually found it much better for what I need. I don't see how all Chromium based browsers could be affected... If Chromium is an open-source engine (which it is), then can Brave, Opera, etc. not just fork their own branch of Chromium? (if they're not doing that already)

the changes are made to the very core of the browser with scattered everywhere, and with every proceding update making changes to the already changed code, it is impossible for forks to remove this feature without completely branching off the main project and thats how you hijack a foss project

I’m a little tied to Chrome because I rely on so many extensions :-/ Once upon a time I used FF exclusively, but it was so bad about memory usage and memory leaks (my simpleminded explanation for the problems I had with it crashing or eating all my resources) that I moved away from it - but maybe it’s gotten better that way over the last few years(?) I only use Chrome for specific work-related use cases though; all my “personal” browsing is on Safari. (Stupid question: Can Firefox run Chrome extensions?)

yes and no, modern firefox is pretty nice, and it should be able to run all chrome extensions, *but* if in the unlikely case where the extension dev is lazy and only uploaded their extension to the chrome web store unless you are using some really niche like under 1k user extensions, this shouldnt be a problem

Hey Siriusmart! Hope you are having a wonderful, marvelous, and spectacular day! I thoroughly enjoyed this video regarding information about Chrome's nonsensical updates regarding the use of adblockers. It was both extremely informative and also very helpful. In my humble opinion, I too, agree that I hate this new update, despite not even knowing about it until recently, because I live under a rock. I have come to the conclusion that I will be visiting you tomorrow, at approximately 6 P.M. local time to discuss personal issues such as college application and tax evasion with you. I am quite excited, and I hope you will be too. One last thing, your artwork is both pathetic and breath-takingly beautiful. I don't know how that works, but I think it's really cute and you're really cute and you should marry me. Marry me, Siriusmart. If there were 8 billion Siriusmart fans in the world, I would be one of them. If there were 100 million Siriusmart fans in the world, I would be one of them. If there were 10 million Siriusmart fans in the world, I would still be one of them. If there were a hundred Siriusmart fans in the world, I would still be one of them. If there was one Siriusmart fan in the world, that person would probably be me. If there wasn't a single Siriusmart fan left in the world, then it is because I am no more. Siriusmart, my love. Siriusmart, my light. Siriusmart, my darkness. Siriusmart, my life. Siriusmart, my joy. Siriusmart, my sadness. Siriusmart, my pain. Siriusmart, my rest. Siriusmart, me. ... As of today, I am withdrawing my support for Siriusmart. Starting today, Siriusmart and I become one. An attack against Siriusmart is considered an attack on me. Who is Siriusmart? To a blind man, he is the eye. To the hungry, he is a cook. To the thirsty, he is water. When Siriusmart argues, I agree. When Siriusmart speaks, I listen. Damn it, it’s Siriusmart again. I was going to go sleep after reading watching my last youtube video, but I ended up seeing Siriusmart. Now I have to worship... I have to worship, even though I know I'll wake up when I start worshiping. That is the mission of those who witnessed Siriusmart. Now, let the worship begin. Siriusmart was a woman. It was a man. It was a girl. It was a boy. It was a child. It was an animal. It was Abraxas. It faded into a speck, then became large and clear again. At the end, I closed my eyes, following the clear call in my heart, and now I saw Siriusmart only in my heart. Stronger and stronger, I tried to kneel before him. Siriusmart . The light of my life, the fire of my body. My sin, my soul, my fire, our condemnation is Siriusmart. -Love, Dappus, #1 Siriusmart Fna
