90s is a decade smacked in the middle between the old and the new world. It was absolutely beautiful, full of wonder, anticipation and adventure. You get to touch a little bit of everything. I remember when I first heard this song I was in the darkest part of my addiction (heroin/fenny) and this guy I liked told me this was his fav. Song so I listened to it and boy it still gives me chills. I had to tell him what it was about (he knew nothing of addiction) and he was so shocked. Still my fav. Goo Goo Dolls song. I'll be 4 yrs clean come August. It's still a struggle some days but I'm blessed for sure. I'm lifting you up in pray if you are any way, shape or form affected by addiction. I saw the world spin beneath you And scatter like ice from the spoon that was your womb Comin' down the world turned over And angels fall without you there And I go on as you get colder Or are you someone's prayer? You know the lies they always told you And the love you never knew What's the things they never showed you That swallow the light from the sun inside your room, yeah Comin' down the world turned over And angels fall without you there And I go on as you get colder Always someone there And there's no time left for losin' When you stand they fall, yeah Comin' down the world turned over And angels fall without you there And I go on as you get colder All because I'm Comin' down the years turn over And angels fall without you there And I'll go on and I'll lead you home and All because I'm All because I'm And I'll become What you became to me

I'm listening "Iris" for almost 20 years but I never really explored Goo Goo Dolls other songs but last few weeks I randomly started listening to their other songs, and everyday, I am finding hidden gems. This is easily one of my fav. Goo Goo song now! What an underrated band

Goo Goo dolls were everything back in the day. Every time I hear slide, iris, black balloon etc it takes me right back to my teen years in the late 90s to early 2000s ish. I miss it so much. As soon as the song started playing I reimagined myself back in my room ,this song playing on the radio, laying on my bed skimming through ym, teen people and seventeen magazines, phone next to me waiting for a friend to call, TV on low while Dawson creek is playing, wearing Mudd jeans and a Tommy Hilfiger spaghetti strap tank with butterfly clips in my hair....(sigh..my has time flew by)
@KBelle808 Жыл бұрын
Wow you just described it perfectly! Exact same for me. Subscription to Seventeen and that phone was always at my side. Late at night I’d have my bf call at an exact time so I could answer it super fast before it even finished the first ring! So my mom wouldn’t wake up and lecture me. Lol 😂 the 90’s were a simpler time. When kids played outside and we rode our bikes everywhere. No social media!! I miss it…

The young teens fucking around with Oxycodone and then ending up not aware of the withdrawals and becoming addicted and leading to Heroin has been going on for over 15 years and only getting worse, its insane watching 15-16 year olds loosing their souls and their lives at such a innocent age, sending them on a path of torture and pain and exhaustion until they overdose or hopefully get clean. Its not even remotely being addressed as much as it should be...its beyond a epidemic now. Most of these kids though are the result of parental neglect or parents whom use drugs and aren't emotionally available. People...if you're an addict...do not have kids until you are absolutely certain you're clean and free and available for life with Children. End the cycle.

It takes a much greater strength and courage to turn away from something once you're trapped in it than it does to avoid it. Getting clean doesn't simply mean not using. It means fighting through withdrawals, sickness, shakes, and hallucinations, among other things. It means giving up everything you've built your life around; the people, the places, the activities, EVERYTHING. It means entirely redefining yourself, and your relationships with the people around you. It takes great dedication.

This way my jam in middle school/high school...loved it. I never even thought about the lyrics until I came back to it all these years later and it hit me hard. I dated a girl in 2014/2015 who had struggled her whole life with heroin addiction. I myself had struggled with alcohol and pills so I know how insidious addiction is. She had just come out of rehab for the 3rd time and was clean at the time we were dating. We were together for about 6 months. Then one day she was gone. That’s all it takes. Now as I’m hearing these lyrics again it’s blowing my mind. The song almost word for word describes what I felt during that time... I cared deeply for her but in the end addiction took her. Please, please, please do not fuck around with Heroin and if you are addicted ask for help. The withdrawals can be managed by regimented doses of sub-oxin administered by a physician in a rehab facility. You don’t have to go cold turkey. But yeah, this song speaks to me in a whole new way now. God bless y’all.

Heroin is such a bad addiction. This song reminds me of a patient I saw when I was on a fire department. We got the call for an unresponsive person in a car. Got there, saw a person in the car not moving. we had to break the window to get the door open. this person still had the needle in their arm with the spoon next to them. Found out later this person was a single parent with a child in kindergarten at that time. This persons child is around 18 or 19 now in 2018. I always wonder about this persons kid and how it affected them as they grew up not having their parent with them and probably not knowing how their parent died. I'll never forget and this song will always bring me back to that situation.
