And if you seriously think that our President asking TWO foreign powers to interfere in our Presidential elections isn’t that bad...you need to go and read our Constitution again, ‘cause that’s one of the reasons that our forefathers implemented impeachment, and the co-equal powers, to ensure that our President didn’t become a dictator...and each co-equal power is supposed to guard their own power, not succumb to another and relinquish their power to them...which is what Mitch McConnell’s been doing for the last year.

Just as ONE example of his corrupt and disgusting nature is his proposed budget...he’a slashing social security, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, and increasing the pentagon’s budget. I don’t know about you but I have old relatives who rely on those services after pouring tons of money into them over the course of 4-5 decades...and now when they’re supposed to be reaping the benefits of those programs, they’re not! Then there’s the 1.3 TRILLION DOLLAR tax cuts he gave to HIMSELF and his ULTRA RICH FRIENDS...their taxes went from 35% to 21%!!! That’s less than what we pay! Conservatism is supposed to be about tax cuts for the middle-class. And before you go on about that bull$hit trickle down crap...even the GOP admitted that it doesn’t work! So you can go on believing that he’s a great president, but unless you’re White (which you obviously are), a male, and straight...Trump is NOT gonna be working on your best interest. If his vote was the deciding factor in this fiasco, it's far more likely that he would've abstained over anything else. If he wanted the public to know what happened so bad, he could have volunteered to testify. He did not. A lot of us have enough faith in humanity to give people the benefit of doubt and a second chance. Sadly, some of us extend that beyond the bounds of logic, sometimes to our detriment. Well, as brave as it may seem, it’s a calculated risk. He knows Trump has to go someday, and when he’s running for president again soon, he’ll have that in his pocket. I still think it was a good thing, but he has cynical reasons for it. And given that his state is less about republican commitment and instead Mormon, he’s betting the backlash won’t be enough to unseat him.

As someone who share's his faith, it's terrifying just how twisted people's morals have become to defend this man. Biblical even. So while I understand the cynicism, I think you should know, that vote and conviction were genuine. The same can't be said of Lee, who invited the defendant (Trump) to a pro-life rally he was holding, only to declare the President innocent immediately afterward. It still blows my mind that a senator could openly trade their vote with someone he was meant to judge and get away with it. But it's the times we live in I suppose.

Good on you, Stephen Colbert for an outstandingly honest and heartfelt comment! And you, Mitt Romney for taking a solemn oath seriously and honestly. As a Utahn I can confidently say he'll still get re-elected next election. Utah is a very red state but they're republican, not big trumpers. He was actually relatively poorly viewed in republican primaries and basically just won the election here by default of being republican. And people here love Romney. Also as many people know, Utah has a lot of Mormons. And the fact that Romney did what he did because he was honoring an oath he made to God, showing immense faith and devotion, is essentially viewed as him being a righteous person and doing the right thing. Plus Trump has only continued to make himself look worse, making Romney look more favorable. I'm confident Romney will not just win but win by a huge margin. He'll be a senator of Utah as long as he wants to be.
