Glad you found replacer for those vintageclass TacticalBoards! Chances to get new ones are really small now! Where I have missed analog keyboard mostly is the horse riding in Skyrim. With controller you can do smooth turns and walk your horse very slowly & gracefully. Edit: Player character & vehicle movements look very smooth indeed o.O! Gotta say, seeing Gopher's hands makes watching this vid almost an religious experience. Better to put it that way to stay discreet _caugh, caugh_ !

This is one of the most entertaining videos I've seen on a subject I know very little about! :P Hmm.. so recently SorcerorDave revealed his face while streaming, and Gopher has just shown off his hands. What a time to be alive! :D (OK, seriously I very much respect that youtubers/twitchers want often want to remain private. In their shoes, I'd do exactly the same). Anyway, great-looking keyboard. If ever I want to replace my marvellous clicky clacky mechanical keyboard (a lovely Xmas gift from my son some years ago), I'll keep it in mind.

Very impressive, and I think it would be worth it for yourself just for the smoother gameplay in videos alone, the fact it also gives you analogue control of vehicles; that's a real game-changer; I also like that it's not as wide as a standard keyboard helps the get left and right hands closer together ( I know Gopher knows this, but for anyone else that's related to how the "typical" male skeleton sits at rest )

After having it for almost 2 years now I dont think I could easily go back to a keyboard. It takes time to get the muscle memory for these new devices but in the end you get used to it.

This is pretty interesting. I definitely worry about compatibility for simultaneous KB / controller when game companies can't even implement working keybinds. For example, I just uninstalled The Outer Worlds because they hardcoded the menu keys and I couldn't guess what they named the view map action to fix it via the config files. Still, for the games it does work with, I can see the analog presses being really nice to have.

Remember looking at a keyboard like this a few years ago but I think it had had optical switches, believe it was like 3 different speeds on, e.g W for forward movement but this sounds much better. Still on a old Corsair K65 and this seems to be worth upgrading to. Thank you for showcasing!

Regarding the issues with NPCs having different walk/run speeds than players... I love what AC Valhalla has done. When you are supposed to follow an NPC, you are slowed down to that NPC speed, but only when really close to them. So the player isn't hindered in any way when they run off to pick something, but when travelling with that NPC, it allows for the cinematic moment, including conversation between the player character and the NPC.

@Gopher as you have taste for practical keyboards i wanted to recommend to you one of my favorite keyboard, "A4Tech X7-G800MU usb + ps/2" (MU have Audio in / Audio out and USB). Its cheep and what's soo good is the extra 5 keys under space and 2 extra on each side of space, your hand don't need to make big moves. There are other extras but just those are game changing. Choosing hotkeys become breeze and having keys same under all games like map, quest, inventory and what not make gaming so much better. Its harder to find in shop because its old, I'm planning to get my self two new one as you cant find nothing similar and when old one eventually stop working it be harder to find replacement the more time passes.

I'm a bit late to the party but wow! I didn't even know we had entered the era of analogue keyboards. And apparently they've been on the market for years now. Thanks for the showcase. This indeed solves an age-old problem. I have friends who for years used to switch between controller and K&M on the fly while playing games that involve driving. This is an incredible piece of tech even if the price is steep at the moment. Razer also has a popular line of analogue keyboards (Huntsman) which are about half the price of Wooting, but of course, there are clear reasons for that once you see the reviews. Edit: It seems like Razer has released an update to their software (Synapse) very recently which copies the exact same features and adjustable actuation points and rapid trigger that Wooting has. So, there is that.

Gopher, I've watched you for near ten years, various moments have made it obvious you know more than the average person on many technical subjects :P This is a really cool product, but various tests with steam deck have taught me that some of my favorite but poorly programmed games can't support multiple input modes. Still really cool that this type of keyboard exists. I also wasted about twice this on building a custom keyboard last black friday, or I'd seriously be tempted despite the issues, the number of options to mitigate issues is impressive.

I decided to try this keyboard out since I like to play my singleplayer games much like Gopher does, immersively and I hate the static movement of keyboard controls but I also only use controllers for specific games like platformers or souls games. For immersive sim games, especially first person, I like to use my mouse and keyboard for the hotkeys aswell as better camera control (for me) I tried for a long time (years ago at this point) to make the Logitech G13 onehanded keyboard work but it was always gimmicky (it has a thumbstick you can bind to movement kinda like how Wooting does the keybinding) and the thumbstick was in an awkward position. I also really enjoy MMOs and some multiplayer games with friends and I found swapping between the logitech G13 and regular keyboard to suddenly take up a lot of desk space, or being very finnicky. I got my Wooting two HE (the 'full' keyboard version) a couple of days ago and so far with raiding in my MMOs aswell as playing Skyrim, Starfield and Cyberpunk, I've been having a great time so far. I'm really thrilled with my purchase and apart from a bit long waiting time due to low production and being sent out in batches, I cannot recommend this keyboard enough for people either like me or Gopher where they can see this fitting in very well for their style of gaming.

that is a cool keyboard! New toy's are always nice! I'm in the weird minority that switched to a controller after the best part of 20 years using K&M, I bought myself a 48" OLED and discovered the luxurious lifestyle of reclined gaming. My old hands/wrist/back/neck/eyes have thanked me immensely, and I've found gaming more relaxing in general. All the old games that I thought would be a lesser experience with a controller, are actually much more simple accessibility wise, sure UI's can be a bitch, like Skyrim, but I've realised that all these bloody games were designed with controller as the primary input device. Glad you're loving your new keyboard though, hoping it brings you many years of lubricated gameplay!

Gopher IMO you forgot one aspect...you said there is only a benefit to content creators with this keyboard regarding smoother movement for capturing footage, but I personally think it improves immersion immensely. No longer do I need a seperate key to switch between walking and running and in some games you can even replace stealth keys completely (The Styx games). I just love it and I watched a lot of reviews that said they can´t get anything out of the analogue feature at all and only use it for the rapid trigger feature. I guess this may be true when you only play competetive shooters.

Meanwhile I'm the complete opposite. When I was playing the first three Diablo games with my keyboard and mouse, my hand was starting to feel pain when the longer I play. @@sentinelkevin7375 My hands cramp up when I use the controller too much. I don't have that issue with mouse and keyboard. There's probably a host of possible reasons for the difference; how long your muscles have been trained on mouse and keyboard, posture, typing style (peck at the keyboard with your fingers or a set placement where you barely have to move your hand). It is interesting though. What's best for each person can vary a great deal.

A little overlay that tracks key presses on screen would have been a handy touch, tho I doubt any of them track analogue keyboard presses Just a little note in case there might be another keyboard review. This high level of customization will make this keyboard suitable for basically everyone. I really do like the idea of analogue control on movement depending on how deep you press the key but frankly I doubt it is for me because I never use or have used controllers. Customization can be beneficial even for people who do not use the analogue option, the can set the activation point to suit their needs and style and use the keyboard digitally like in e-sport and competitieve FPS games. I need to experience it for myself to make and I might in time but not right now or anytime soon, my current G910 still works perfectly fine. Even if this is not a review it is still a good video from a user point of view, looking forward for a follow up with your experience using this keyboard.

I always was a PC and M\KB supremacist, but for me it was always obvious that some games are better on other controllers... wheel for cars, joystick for flying, or even go all it and take wheel + pedals + stick, for flying options are even more insane. Gamepad is basically tying to be all in one option. Its worse than 3-4 separate controllers, especially if its advanced options, or at least not as good as, but its cheaper, takes less space, you can sit on a couch with it. Seems like a fair exchange.

If you want to hear something funny find goper's live stream from years ago where he decided one day to play Fallout 4 on a console. The first time rumble hit seriously his reaction was a sudden and desperate shock followed by him rapidly asking how to turn it off. He just couldn't understand why us controller players would want that. Personally, I find M&K combat to be much less natural without it, but I get why it would be odd.

I was thinking about an analogue keyboard, but they are nowhere available to test out and 180 Euros is a bit much for testing. However now i am considering it seriously. Only question that remains, a TKL or a full keyboard? I rely very often on the numpad, but in most games you don't need it, or wish you could relocate the Numpad to the left side. And then there are games with so many keybinds, that you need that extra space. I truly wish for a full size keyboard, where you can detach the nav and numpad, relocate it to the left of the keyboard or even right of your mouse (but out of the way of the mouse) and have a TKL as your main input.

I have the same problem re: testing. I went and dropped over $200.00 on a mechanical keyboard that was rated very well. Only to find that it makes this heavily annoying (to me) ringing sound. I tried stuffing sound dampeners in it, but it didn't take it all away. After researching on KZbin, I found that I'd have to actually break open the keyboard, unsolder some springs and then put it back together. I'm nowhere NEAR that competent, so I have to endure the ringing. I'm certainly not spending another 200$ on another keyboard! If I had been able to test the thing in a store, I'd have been able to hear the ringing and went with another keyboard.

Does it have the Nordic keys? I’m using a laptop to both write and play games, and I’m worried I’ll get weird hand/wrist issues. I never ever use the numpad, so anything that omits it seems good. I’ve got no idea about which ergonomic keyboards are good, if there’s one that’s good for both gaming and typing, etc. After starting a job where I knit during the work day, I’ve begun to worry about my wrist and hand health as I’d hate to get repetitive stress injuries.

Yes. If you look closely at the one in the video, it's using the Nordic key caps :)

@@GophersVids Ah, thank you, I couldn’t quite tell so figured it was better to ask. We Nordic gamers are united in our umlaut keys messing with certain games developed by and for US keyboards, haha, Morrowind is hardcoded to a US keyboard layout so certain keys don’t correspond to their labels on Nordic and EU keyboards.

I have this keyboard! I honestly think its wasted on me though since I rarely play games on pc these days and when I do Ive been using a controller
@djaroonja
@djaroonja 7 ай бұрын
Just wanted to state that Cooler Master's Aimpad tech removes the issue with analog mode switch between controller and keyboard. For some reason it reges the keyboard as a keyboard and not a controller in the system. Almost a built in workaround... however... some online services will treat this as a device exploit and you can get banned. Too bad Aimpad has been abandoned.

the keyboard looks a little small compared to the old school one I am using. I assume you did not find any issues with key spacing?
@GopherLiveVids

It's a standard 60% keyboard. Imagine your normal keyboard, cut the numpad off, cut the arrow key and page up/down key part off, and that's it :) The keys are all the same size and spacing as a normal full keyboard. There are just less of them :)

Any chance of a help vid on how to get the Wooting working with Cyberpunk 2077. Or a link to a recent config. All I have found is 2020 info that doesn't seem to work now.

Meanwhile I'm just curious how it compares to the tacticalboard in terms of comfort, because I remember one of the biggest reasons Gopher loved the tacticalboard was that his fingers/hand could rest on the keys, rather than how fingers are usually positioned above WASD. (unless he mentions that and I just missed it)
@GophersVids
@GophersVids 10 ай бұрын
It's no where near as comfortable, and you have way less buttons easily accessible by your thumb. The layout is a standard QWERTY keyboard designed for typing rather than gaming.

@@GophersVids Now that I think about it, I guess that should be obvious. (a legendary facepalm is required here) The lack of thumb buttons must be rough after getting used to them with the TacticalBoard.

Why does the Wooting need to emulate a controller to achieve analogue movement? Can’t it just PWM the key to achieve the same effect (i.e. spam the key signal intermittently based on how hard you press)?
@GophersVids
@GophersVids Жыл бұрын
Yeah, but you can do that with your fingers already :) It works, but it's usually not pretty. It would depend on the game to be honest. But honestly it's a substandard way to get 'imitation analogue'.
@man_eating_monkey
@man_eating_monkey Жыл бұрын
@@GophersVids Yeah, but my fingers can’t spam at 1000 times per second :P I think an ‘imitation analogue’ mode is essential for analogue keyboards to gain mainstream appeal, to bridge the gap for the many games that have lacklustre controller+KBM support.
@GophersVids
@GophersVids Жыл бұрын
@@man_eating_monkey You'd need a whole new technology for the keyboard to function in that manner because you'd need to match that 'tap' frequency with the polling from the game. If you didn't, the input would be very unreliable. Basically think of it as V-Sync for your keyboard. Unless it syncs the game polling your keyboard at the correct frequency for the high frequency 'tapping', it would probably constantly stutter and hitch, making it pretty similar to feathering with your fingers. It might be more relaxing for your fingers than feathering, but I doubt it would be as smooth as true analogue, or that it would work consistently across all games. But I'll happily try out any such keyboard that gets created :)
@man_eating_monkey
@man_eating_monkey Жыл бұрын
@@GophersVids Ah that's a bummer. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see analogue input + mouse taking off whilst the onus is on game devs to support it... considering most devs still can't even get traditional keybindings right 🤦‍♂

Keyboard without the feedback of the mechanical keys (the click sound), just don't do it for me. I like the idea of analog keys, especially for movement keys, but I'll never switch unless they mimic the feedback of mechanical keys.

The keyboard is actually the same size as your normal keyboard, it's just missing everything to the right of the ENTER key. They keys and spacing are identical to normal full sized keyboards. And many of us don't really have much use for the numpad whilst gaming. But there is a full size version of this keyboard if that's what you need. Seems an odd thing to focus on :)
