I love the quirky little DJI with its modules, looks a lot of fun. BUT... for picture quality the GoPro wins in every single shot, plus also stabilisation was much better on the GoPro. I'll be sticking with GoPro for now.

An interesting review - I have a few corrections - I'm confused by your references to "vibrant" colour setting on the Action 2 - there's no such setting so perhaps using the "vibrant" setting on the GoPro was not a fair comparison. Also, the GoPro exhibits a kind of yellowish colour cast in the first sample photo, but in the second sample photo it's the Action 2 which has that colour cast. I suspect you may have got the photos the wrong way round. Once you get into the video comparison, again you say you are using the non-existant "vibrant" setting on the Action 2. In the indoor test, you refer to "Native audio coming out of each of the cameras" - so which is which? I can't hear any change in the audio during that segment and there's nothing on the screen to indicate which camera's audio is in use. From the sound of it I'm guessing that you were using the Action 2 with the screen module. At 6:45 you are showing out of date firmware for the Action 2 and I assume this test was done before the recent wide-ranging firmware update which affects picture quality and other fixes and improvements. So your comparisons must be subject to that caveat. Lastly, on price, you did mention that you have to spend extra to get full horizon levelling on the GoPro, but you also have to spend extra if you want to connect external mics to the GoPro. The Action 2 accepts USB mics or USB devices out of the box (such as the Zoom H1N or the Rode Wireless Go II) or you can buy inexpensive 3rd party adapters and interfaces for use with non-USB mics. So, depending on needs, the Action 2 might not be as expensive as you might think.

I just did a deep dive into these 2 cameras and came out with the GoPro. To me, color science is personal taste, stabilization is excellent on both, picture quality is good enough on both and there are plenty of resolutions/frame rates available. Functionality is where things differ. - Battery system. For the GoPro you just need to pop in a new cheap battery and you're good to go. For the Action 2, you need to swap out an entire expensive screen/power module and pop out the sd card and put it into the new screen/power module. You can't charge the camera module unless you have the screen/battery module attached. I like to have multiple batteries on me so I never run out of juice or have to wait for charging. You can sorta work around this by carrying a power bank and 2 batteries. - Waterproofing. The GoPro is waterproof. The Action 2 with second screen is not waterproof. You can use just the camera module underwater but because you can't change out the battery in the camera module, once you run out of juice you have to hop out of the water, dry it, attach the second screen and wait for it to charge the camera module. You can purchase a separate underwater case that can house both screen/power+camera. - Lens system. The GoPro can replace it's lens if damaged with no tools for cheap. This also is how you can attach ND filters and MAX lens mod for those who want more control. For the Action 2 you'd have to send it into DJI for repair. It could literally ruin an entire shoot. Ironically, even though the Action 2 is very modular this means there can't be any lens mods without some bulky housing situation. There are many other differences, but those were the major points for me.

11:26 says low light, where is the low light? Obviously GoPro can't handle low light so we will not see in this video such a comparison, and the DJI looks very not crisp as like somebody, an editor added a 0.1 gaussian blur to it :) hmmm. (we know that DJI is not focusing very close to the camera and that can be fixed with 52MM Close-Up Filter Set (+1, 2, 4 and +10 Diopters)) but what i see here is just blur added from Premiere Pro or something :) BIG ISSUE WITH the GoPro which is not mentioned here and everyone HAS to know is that when you record with the device you will not have real time feedback on your phone app.

Action cameras are not designed for low light. I recommend using your smartphone or buying a full-frame or aps-c model camera for shooting in those conditions ;)

I'm fpv pilot, so DJI for me, i already sold my hero 10, that thing sucks , its not as much difference in image, and DJi is known for updating and adding color profiles, photos modes, etc regularly, more than GoPro that only fix the issue ( they dont fix anything ), GOpro is heavy as hell, since gopro hero 5 that i still own, they still keeping the same shitty case , heavy format , the only Gopro that i will buy in the future is the new session if gopro made one. Congrats to dji to think outside of the box , in 5 months from today many returners of the dji action 2 will be piss of .

Did I miss something? No discussion of the DJI action 2's battery life (pros/cons) compared to Gopro’s. Keeping my portable cameras charged, and the ease and quickness in doing so, is one of my top priorities….

This is a huge usability issue for me and why I chose the GoPro. I can chuck in a new battery and I'm good to go instead of swapping out expensive screen/power modules and swapping in/out sd cards. Also since the screen/power modules aren't waterproof, you're done once the camera module's small battery is dead or you run out of space on internal storage until you charge/transfer.

I agree. I have the dji osmo action (first model) you can change the lens out easily but can’t do it to the new one. I hate that, will not be upgrading until they fix that. Go pro 10 is nice as well.

Purchased the GoPro Hero 10, but it has been extremely disappointing soo far. The battery life is terrible, it overheats after 10 minutes of use and I’ve lost most of my videos to SD card errors, despite purchasing the SD card directly from GoPro and another Sandisk Extreme 256gb from Amazon.

The most important thing about ACTION CAMERA are : 1. Robustness - HERO 10 wins Hands down! 2. Stability - Both are very good. 3. Mount Options: DJI 2 4. Waterproof: HERO 10. 5. Size: With the Mount in DJI 2, both are same. Rest everything can be managed, hence in my opinion, its Hero 10.

No, the battery doesn’t last as long as it used to when shooting high frame rates but most people only shoot for on average 1 minute at a time

I would get a drone with camera, just because is like having 1 cameras, you can use one for ground footage and one for Ariel footage. On any Scenario 2 cameras are better then one. Personal opinion. 👍🏼

Check out the DJI Mavic Air 2S - it's the drone we have for our regular drone shots not for mounting an action camera on top and easier to fly than FPV

Both because when you get 1st action camera, you can't stop xD What do you think, will DJI be ok if to chestmount it clipping your T-shirt between magnets? It looks triple smaller than gopro and it could be nice to shoot some POVs when playing football etc. But with necklace-mount it gonna fly in chaos in action scenes. And thanks for the video!

Yeah definitely, the magnets are super strong, I think they have designed it for that exact purpose, the pendent is meant to go on the inside of the t-shirt and the camera on the outside :)

I prefer the gopro image having more details and suiting my needs better, I am still to test mine out during an upcoming trip. I'd love to try and get some underwater shots to add another perspective to my cinematic edits. I think the gopro, while being kinda okay camera, is still the best option among action cams. I see Action 2 to be ideal solution for FPV filming though. Props to DJI for trying out something new and interesting, instead of just following a beaten path. Nice concept, but lack of versatility when compared to gopro. Thanks for the comparison!

Fantastic Video and Features comparison, you two! Great work! Thumbs up. I went through each segment w/ a fine tooth-comb...Depending on the lighting direction, inside and out, about 80% of the video from the DJI Action 2 was just too soft, and the blacks were crushed, losing a ton of details in the shadows. Indoors, they were BOTH terrible, but the DJI won there by a hair...From a usability standpoint, the main DJI cube has so little storage space and battery life, it's almost useless by itself, and then add the expensive battery/vid storage module, you lose its ability to be waterproof, PLUS, its freaking FRAGILE! As an "Action cam" it's got to hold up...That Action 2 screen will be scratched the moment I take a tumble on my skateboard or enduro bike! As a vlogging cam, either would be fine if it's dry out I think. GoPro Hero 10 for me, all the way...its the true action cam...Action 2 is a wannabe.

I think GoPro 10 is really a GoPro 9.5 :) So yes you're all equiped with the best action cam already Matty. Insta360 One R is super cool for 360 with the added benefits of shooting 4K or One Inch shots, something I'm sure they'll be working on to improve for 2022? Great approach, the 360 perspective will be a great addition to your tool kit :)

Don't ever compare go pro with dji 2! Peoples aren't being honest by saying DJI 2 is good.Don't hide the reality that DJI 2 can get over heat easily especially 4k 120 fps recording.I thought DJI 2 would be a go pro killer howevet it isn't same level with go pro 10.Don't let hype blind us!
