@Gemini_Connect4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Good suggestion. What we thought overall is that in quality the lav mic beats all by a lot in a noisy environment. The media mod improves sound over internal GoPro mic when you prioritize front or back. If you want to have 2 subjects talking evenly on each side it gets tricky.

@@Gemini_Connect I see, thank you for answer. I like to use an omnidirectional mic, and I tend to like the gopro 8 internal mic, but I am considering getting the media mod to cancel some of the noise. My priority is, in any case, a super dooper compact setup. :) Thank you, Ciao!

Hmm. Not sure which adapter that is.

@@Gemini_Connect through some trial and error I it figured out. A 3 stripe is a TRRS plug and a 2 stripe is a TRS. So.. tip, ring sleeve.. or tip ring ring sleeve. My lav mic came with an adapter to take it from TRRS to a TRS. The media mod only works with the TRS adapter being used. This pushes the connection out from the back of the camera quite a ways.. going to need a right angle adapter.

@Gemini_Connect4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the creaking noise from spinning the GoPro to face the front or back is a problem with the internal mics -- using external mics like the Saramonic are great for eliminating that, plus blocking wind. The Rode Wireless mic is definitely our favorite for the best quality sound, although it takes a bit of extra setup + $$ for that one. Thanks for watching!

@Gemini_Connect4 жыл бұрын
The Edutige is a suprisingly great microphone, but it doesn't work well if you use the Media Mod since the microphone points backwards. The Saramonic is a good alternative that is compact, affordable, and can be pointed in any direction. However, the very best sound quality comes from the Rode VideoMicro and Wireless Go -- both are more pricey. The VideoMicro can also be rather bulky if you add the windscreen.

This isn't the exact mount I demo'ed in the video, but I think it is a better option - geni.us/ynx1pz You could put the Rode on the side of the Media Mod if you wanted to. I think the main challenge would be making your rig slightly unbalanced to one side.

Thanks for the video. I'm trying to figure out what to buy and it's all so overwhelming. It seems like the rode wireless go with the lav mic gave the best sound. If I want to go that route, do I also need to buy the media mod or some other type of adapter to attach it?
@Gemini_Connect4 жыл бұрын
If you want to add any external mic to the GoPro, you need a mic adapter -- either the official mic adapter sold by GoPro, or the GoPro Media Mod. Both are pricey, but they work reliably well. Any cheap alternatives won't work. If you get the official mic adapter from GoPro, you'll also need a cage to hold it. This video explains the setup a bit more - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJ-yooeqftelmrc

If you have time to wait, perhaps hold on a couple more months and see what the flip screen monitor looks and performs like. We have high hopes for that being the key piece to make the Media Mod worth the purchase....until then, I think you're right that you can either go with the Media Mod or the old mic adapter and be fine either way.

At 7:15 you point out with the Edutige mic, that you can only point backwards, and the Rode Video Micro can only point forward. Would it be a possible solution to just "use both" in the same setup. I would imagine that you could leave the Rode Video Micro attached to your setup facing forward, and then when you want to vlog from behind the camera, instead of trying to struggle with the Video Micro to turn it around, you could just unplug the Micro, plug the Edtige to film from behind the camera, and the switch back when you are back "in front" with the Micro. Is that something that would be feasible, or is there too much involved with that setup/swap method? I am new to vlogging, so I'm legit curious if that would work?

I want better audio but of course I need noise control with the muff and a mic that’s multi directional like the iPhone and gives me iPhone audio quality 🤷🏻♂️ Another option I’m considering is not buying any mic and just turn off the GPs wind noise reduction setting and stick small wind muffs or foams on the built in mics, but I don’t know if the audio will still be trash😅

Rode wireless go wins with internal mic and with a Rode lab mic! The media mode is a disaster, Gopro want us to pay 80 big ones for a 3mm jack, but then again I want the smallest compact size blog set up, I'm really unhappy with that 50,00 dollars twinkie adaptor, then we have to buy the cage, plus mic, you back up to 100 dollars, I'm so torn as to what to get.urgh...
