Thank you for posting this! I did this very climb as a grade schooler many many years ago, I'm 73 now! I love seeing the stairs, they WERE very tiny I can attest to that. I was going to ride the elevator up but my little brother, being a brat like they can be, dared me to go up the stairs, and of course I did! It was not a busy tourist day so we were not sandwiched in between tourists, etc. We were visiting NYC from our grandparents' home over in NJ. It is one of my favorite childhood memories; my own children and I donated to the restoration back in the 1980s but I've not had the privilege of taking them...Thanks again!

.There are many cool things and little known things about the statue, "...inaugural fireworks for the statue took place on Nov. 1, 1886 at 7pm, red white and blue flares lit up sky as lady liberty's torch was lit for the first time." "Every part of the statue is symbolic. The severn spikes represent the seven seas and continents; the twenty-five windows in the crown represents the twenty-five natural minerals of earth..." These are excerpts from a chapter on the Statue of Liberty in my book, 'It Happened in New York."

Awesome video! Just did this climb with my wife and 8 year old twins this past weekend and it was amazing. I went up when I was about their age in the late 80's and had a very different memory of how long/hard of a climb it was (I swore it took at least an hour to climb). Still unnerving and tiring but the lighting and stairs are much better thanks to the renovations in 2012.

The Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World; French: La Liberté éclairant le monde) is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor in New York City, in the United States. The statue, designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, a French sculptor and dedicated on October 28, 1886, was a gift to the United States from the people of France. The statue is of a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess, who bears a torch and a tabula ansata.

This is a con to go up to the crown. You dont get a full circular view taking in manhattan, queens and the bronx. Because the second half of this tiny room is encased with plaster, your view is limited to statan island, the water around it and if you peek really far on one of the slivers of window opening at the top, you might see the tip of manhattan! Its not worth going up to the crown for the view. The pedestal gives a full 360 view.
