This has been a well-known challenge here in Oslo, but not between these two stations! You start on the line from Sognsvann to Oslo, and run from Frøen (the last stop before Majorstuen) down to the big Majorstuen station: This is slightly downhill all the way with almost zero detours out from and into the stations. You have to be quick though because Frøen is going to be closed in a few years, replaced with the new Diakonhjemmet station a bit further up the line. It is also about 700m total distance.

I like how this video was edited; * short intro * informative build-up * close fail * enough time left on the video for anything to happen * very short outro This had me captivated without feeling like I needed to skip forward, and now I want to see if you make the run later on.

This particular challenge is definitely harder in Oslo than here in London. Mansion House and Cannon Street on the district and circle lines are extremely close, so you get more advantage from the acceleration and deceleration of the train (as well as shorter attempts, making it easier to reattempt if necessary). If you ever find yourself in London, and you really want to beat a train by running, that's probably your best option.
@Eldriitch5 ай бұрын
The lines are also much closer to the surface, so there's less uphill right at the start.

This reminds me of the passage in Haruki Murakami's 'What I talk about when I talk about running'. He wants to run the original marathon route in Greece to write about it for a magazine (if I remember correctly) and they are very surprised that he actually means to do the whole thing. Apparently most of those challenges were faked back then too. Integrity is important, for the media, athletes and everyone else.

The 800m world record is 1:40.91. Comsidering this, I would have been really impressed if you manage this! The thing that was bad is that NRK didn't clarify it when first asked that this was for enterteinment purposes only and not actually accomplished. While it might have been a entertainment format, it can leave a bitter taste in regards to news. What is, in current times, very important. If people start saying: "national tv faked this, why should we trust their news on politics etc.?" their whole journalistic integrity is at play. I'm not Norwegian and therefor don't know alot. But I understand some Norwegian (easier written) and from those times i went on their website i had a good impression of them. A similar discussion as you hinted on is currently going on here in Switzerland. I think that the entertainment side and sports should have it's place on national tv. If this field is left out, you also don't get cultural things that make a nation/culture to people that might just earn enough to live and pay rent (also Norway has those). So you would push them out of anything besides news about war and politics.

I do not mind public service television making entertainment (including sports or "culture", even if both ot those are also entertainment) especially in areas that are not likely to be covered by commercial television. And being (reasonably) advertisement free is definitely a bonus. However, I do expect integrity from them, and that faking is definitely a mark against NRK.

It's not physically possible basically... these guys missed it by 20s+, which is an extremely long time for this kind of distance. Alfred ran a period at 2:00/km pace, which is very close to what's humanly possible already(it is 45s for 400m, and the 400m WR is 43s). So no chance

You should've tried it the same way they showed Amalie Iuel do it. Nasjonalteateret isn't as deep underground as stortinget so you don't spend as much time running up stairs and ramps. I suspect both of you would've gotten it running the other way around.
@willemrood5 ай бұрын
Now the question is, did you pay for your zone 1 tickets? 👀 But very fun, I'm also convinced that often my commute to work (Voyenbrua-Thune) is faster when I go running compared to taking the bus. Just depends a lot on the traffic lights!

@Riiseli5 ай бұрын
You could likely make it by having a couple of late runners catching the underground at both stops. First person catches and hold for the second for five seconds or so. Now this can happen organically, but one would've thought it would have been a better method for NRK.
