Took me years to listen and appreciate this icon. I recall the hits on the radio, here in Canada. But my musical tastes went another direction. But, I finally discovered the jewel in the Canadian crown, the man is a songwriting, storytelling, genius.

I live 5 miles south of Carefree Highway not too far off of I-17 - just a quick drive to Lake Pleasant - I've loved this song ever since it was released back in my teen years. [ I just realized - Lake Pleasant and Carefree Highway - makes the 120 degree desert sound pretty nice - - - . . . until you get to Scorpion Bay ]. I don't remember you reacting to 'If You Could Read My Mind' - this was the first song I remember hearing from him when it was released. A classic for sure.

"Carefree Highway" is a pleasant fantasy for a Brit like me. We don't have the thousands of miles of open road; more likely to be stuck in traffic somewhere on the A34 in the pouring rain! This is a subject that Paddy McAloon explores in his song, "Cars and Girls".

Gordon Lightfoot also has a song titled, Rainy Day People, so, you are covered either way. 😊

This has long been one of my favorite Gord songs. My first long-term relationship after high school was with a woman named Anne. This song had been around for a while, by the time she broke up with me, and I'd liked it before, but after that it became a song for a few years after that I'd sing along with loudly when drunk enough to forget that I can't sing.

Thanks for giving this one a listen and for the name mention. Great one by Gordon, he conveys that longing to hit the road whether he's escaping or yearning to go out on tour again.

Another wonderful song by Gordon Lightfoot. ❤ Did some travelling today actually going to a local festival. A beautiful day seeing all the wheat fields, blue skies and fluffy white clouds of the Canadian prairies. This song was a perfect one to end my day!

One of his lighter, more radio-friendly tracks, but still has the Gord magic. The chorus is an earworm of the good kind!

The man could write some good songs. I remember as a kid this was sung by us as "Every Highway". 😮

Always happy to hear a Gordon Lightfoot reaction. Gord's Gold is one of my go-to albums. I recommend a listen to "Affair On 8th. Avenue" (my fav) or his epic "Canadian Railroad Trilogy".

Justin did Canadian Railroad Trilogy as couple of years ago.

@@maruad7577I looked it up before I suggested it and couldn't find him reacting to it. I just looked it up again two different ways than I did the first time and finally found it on the third try. Thanks. I still recommend "Affair On 8th. Avenue". Has he reacted to that one?

I would say. There are a number of singer/songwriter/guitarists who don't make one's ears bleed with industrial noise, Gordon is one of them. I have a new challenge, Justin. I need to think up a new joke for when you lift your arms. LUL

This G.L. tune, is a bit like sipping good whiskey from a Styrofoam cup. The contents are warm and pleasing, but the vessel is just ordinary!✌️&💗

I was never as fond of this album as much of his earlier work. It feels like it has had all the rough edges and character rubbed off until it is smooth and soft and oh so easy to digest and just as easy to forget. It's a shame because there some great lines in these songs. I still prefer earlier things like "Don Quixote", "The Way I Feel", "I'm Not Saying" or "Did She Mention My Name". Having said that, this album is popular so I realize it is just a matter of personal preferences.
