Gordon Lightfoot Live at Massey Hall 1975

the last month has been so busy for me I haven't had much time to upload as many covers as I wanted. So, in the meantime, I decided to upload another Gordon Lightfoot concert as a placeholder until my next cover is recorded (hopefully, it will be up next week)
This concert is from 1975 at Lightfoot's home venue, Massey Hall in Toronto. Several great songs were played during this show including many brand new from the soon to be released "Cold on the Shoulder" album.

With tears in my eyes and a smile on my face, I remember his unforgotten grace. He was a man among men and a poet and poets. He was wonderful he was so kind and such a friend I shall love him until the end.

I wish my dad was a musician and wrote a song for me. When Gordon first wrote “Fine As Fine Can Be”, during one of his Massey shows, he actually sat his 9-year-old daughter (who he wrote it for) on the piano bench and played and sang it directly to her (yes that’s him playing the piano); I think that’s so sweet; along with the line “You’re my little angel, you see”. I’ve always wondered what “When I am gone, my thoughts are all with you” means.

Well, he was touring a whole lot. So therefore he was gone and all that could be with her was his thoughts. Probably a phone call or some letters as well.

Being at Massey to hear Gordon was always a special tradition. Never wanted the concert to end. Great memories. Rest in Peace our friend!

Greg White: Wow. Lucky you! First time I saw him was in Washington, D. C. at the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1975. I had the great pleasure of speaking with him and talking about when I first became a fan -- when my Mom recorded Johnny Cash's summer TV show and Gordon Lightfoot was a guest. They played a duet of his most despised (by him) song "For Lovin' Me". I loved it; the song and him. He talks about how much he hates that song, eventhough everybody else loves it. He was so cool. I just love him. ❤❤❤

This is wonderful. I don't ever recall Gordon putting out this live concert at Massey on album/CD. I hope that his estate does remaster it and get it out to his fans. Massey Hall is an excellent concert hall acoustically. Thanks for posting it. Love Gordon's music so much. He was such a talented songwriter. Up there with Bob Dylan. May he Rest In Peace always.

​@@Telecoaster94music I thought I watched everything by Gordon Lightfoot but after watching a bootlegged concert in Calgary, Alberta this popped up so I'm binging on Mr. Lightfoot for the 3rd straight night. What a delightful way to spend the evenings. And although I cried during the last concert, I'm in a much better space, singing along to all these fabulous tunes. I know the words and the timing of all his songs. I'll always love him and I hope I see him on the other side. May his soul rest in peace. 🙏🙏🙏

Having attended them all since he started performing there in 1967 I would have been there of course. It's difficult to remember everything though as it was a different era. Sort of the big party era. Ron Jones. @@Telecoaster94music

There’s a recording of Gord playing at Carnegie Hall in New York in 1979 with an amazing set list that would be great to see here. I tried to download it myself, but the file is pretty sizable and it just wouldn’t download to my computer. Do you think you could upload it at some point? I found it on Guitars101 when I looked up Gordon Lightfoot.

It was on a website that had some bootlegs of lightfoot’s concerts from the 70s. If you liked this, I also posted another concert from later in 1975 where he plays some other “Cold On The Shoulder” songs that did not appear on this one
