She has had a tumultuous and eventful life.
She has returned to her birthplace, Kyoto City Zoo.
She had never been blessed with a baby but after meeting Momotaro,

She is a very maternal female gorilla.
GENKI's father is MAC.
GENKI's mother is HIROMI.

He was separated from his mother Genki soon after he was born.
Genki's milk production was not very good.
He was raised by his keeper for his first10 months.
Because of this, he is very fond of humans.
His face is so expressive, and everyone enjoys watching him.

He is just very strong-willed and independent.
He has big eyes and long eyebrows.
The way he plays a lot with his brother Gentaro makes everyone smile.

Gentaro being her first baby and then having trouble feeding his must have stressed her out then having him taken and not understanding why was devastating to her. She never forgot him and took him and cared for him as if never separated. Which is amazing because some mothers like Ai who had Annie never bonded with her baby after getting her back. The Silverback loved and took care of Annie . But Genki is a Very Sensitive and Loving Mother also Very Protective .Genki had Her only baby Gentaro for many years, spoiling him rotten 😂And then precious little Kentaro was Born. The Zoo Keepers Did a Outstanding Job at figuring out how to Help Genki and Kentaro while he was a tiny baby so they wouldn’t have to take Kentaro from her . Poor Sweet Genki did Everything Right except her Milk wasn’t coming in as it should but the wonderful Zoo keepers helped her feed her Kentaro. She has been through so much but now finally at peace and Happy. I wish they could give her false Teeth to eat easier cause she loves her food. 🌶️🍆🥒🍓🍉🥦🥬🫑🥕❤️❤️❤️❤️🦍🦍🦍🦍

Yes, she definitely loves her food! But in all fairness, every time she turns around, either Mometaro, Gentaro or Kintaro was stealing her food from her. That's why she frantically moves around trying to find her food and eats as much as she can as fast as she can. She eats it before one of the guys can take it from her. Something tells me if she didn't live in fear of having her food taken constantly, she wouldn't overeat when she has the chance. That poor woman has had to throw water, sand and poop at her tormentors for taking her food too many times to remember! ❤🦍

It was Genki who was given supplemental food when they found she was pregnant. She couldn’t nurse Gentaro because she was not producing enough milk. When they found she was pregnant with Kintaro, they fed her separately from Momotaro and gave her high calorie supplements. When she had Kintaro, remembering they took Gentaro away, she held Kintaro in her arms for two weeks, never letting him go. She has always had adequate milk for Kintaro.

When the keepers took baby Gentaro from Genki, they saved the baby gorilla's life, but lost her trust. We all remember what a tight hold Genki held on baby Kintaro. Even when she would let him on the ground, she would hold on to one of his legs. Genki is a wonderful gorilla mother. And I'm glad the zoo was able to re-establish trust with her, keeping Kintaro with his family, and feed him much needed supplements.

For Genki, I think you could easily grind or chop her greens for her. Give her a big bowl of her own. She can then chew to her hearts content but it would be easier for her. Also, I read they feed some gorillas porridge, if that is true then she could eat/drink/slurp up a smoothie with all the nutrients. These two options would help supplement her diet and still give her fresh food.

Yes! Genki has 2 strong willed sons! Gentaro was her boy for so long! He still slept with Genki when she was pregnant! He would freak out when Momo would mate with her😂 It seems easier with Kinny because he has his big bro and Momo to play with. Hopefully Genki won’t have to nurse as long as some other mothers had too. She just wants to eat,sleep and groom her kids!🙋🏽😊

Maybe it’s the heat? I noticed his rash on his head is bothering him again. Especially when it’s warmer. I think Momo probably prefers the night and quiet time to mate. There’s a few videos out there that show this. Even with little Gentaro biting his hands,he didn’t seem to mind😊

I know that people like to push the not-enough-milk story for Gentaro's human rearing, but the truth is that Genki had extreme psychological issues after having a miscarriage and losing rank in her prior troop. She even bit most of one of her fingers off and became known in Japan as a self-mutilating gorilla!

Also. She witnessed Bijou's death and stayed by his side while he was dying. Then, after recovering her health thanks to her Mother Hiromi's care, she had to go through her mom being killed by Gon, the male gorilla they'd brought to the zoo. Hiromi died from injuries sustained from Gon. I think she was only 26 years old when she was killed.

Just like when a human loses her child the mother goes in depression😢. It's sad to say since Genki can't have more babies & when Gentaro is taken away she is going bonkers, that's why she self mutalates herself. The bond between mother & child is unbreakable & it's like her family is dwindling away. Soooooo sad, makes me want to cry. Her age ,& the fact her boys are growing up so fast she has nothing, so depression sets in. Just like humans. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you zoo staff.❤💕💞.

Her self-mutilation happened at Ueno, where she lived at that time, because she lost her spot as favorite female when Momoko moved in (the male at that time was Biju). She also miscarried her first baby, which also affected her negatively.

We don't know if she is still fertile! The reason she's not pregnant now, is because she has been breastfeeding up until now, and most animals (also women) will not cycle during that time. Personally, I would not want her to get pregnant bc of her health issues and age (look at what happened to Momoko... ). Unfortunately, bc Genki is an amazing mother, although she always seems to have problems to produce enough milk for her newborn.

They just like to play with them, and sit or lay on them. They also use them to keep warm or shield their heads from the sun. And sometimes there are treats for them inside those bags!🍊🥒🥕😋 Other zoos also provide them for their gorilla troops. I've also see orangutans enjoying them.👍🤗💗🦍&🦧

To the Zoo where the Momotaro troop lives, I direct this comment. Genki has recently shown an interest in having another baby. Momotaro is not that interested. I hope the Zoo can take steps to help this along. Her time is running out, and eventually they will have to place Gentaro somewhere else to start his own troop. Some days his testosterone seems to be raging. Having a little one for Genki to care for will help lessen this permanent separation from her first son. And Momotaro is too young to not have more offspring. I don't know how to relay this comment to this Zoo, but if there are others of you that have had similar thoughts, maybe our combined effects could get to them. Thank you.
