It would also decrease the stress of the troop if they could smell her thru a steel barrier. Seeing is not enough as they consistently press nose to window corner trying to get her scent. Rest is good for the old girl.❤❤

It breaks my heart to see AI cut off from Nene. Seeing AI attempting to push a stick through a window frame crack to her mother broke me 😂 I can’t believe I have tears in my eyes. They will have to figure out away to keep Nene permanent isolated from all with the exception of AI or figure out how to keep Shabani from becoming so excited.

It seems to me that Nene craves the companionship of the rest of her family. Nene is arthritic - and arthritis is degenerative. “Rest” does not help arthritis - however, activity does. The lethargy we’re witnessing is likely due to painkillers administered to Nene - which can cause sleepiness. It would be a shame if Nene is destined to live out her remaining days segregated from the rest of the group.

@@SolaKnitez53 It seems to me that the zoo IS giving Nene medication for her pain - which is why she’s been seen so sleepy lately. When the medication begins to wear off, her appetite picks up. We weren’t able to see into the room to know what other accommodations may have been made for Nene.

Ai is the only that's kind to her mom..haven't seen her hit her, wish the zookeepers would let only her in to be with her mom, if only for a few mins...but also understandable why they don't.

I think its a good sign Nene ventured over to the window so her family could see her closer. Earlier on she was not doing that. She is elderly and recovery is slow but i am hopeful she will recover so she can be with her family again.

The sad thing about is that IF she recovers, whoch I do not velieve she will with the severe arthritis she has ( I don't know what else). It is NOT a humane thing to do is leave her steughling and not mobile and in pain. NeNe such a loving mother to her kids, but I think if she is in pain and nonchance to recover (my fear even if she "recovers") if she goes nack to the troop she will get hurt again sadly.

I wish there was a way for Ai to be in the same room as her mom. 7:00 Before Nene was isolated, Ai was the only one not picking on her. She and Nene have had some fine times up on the ledge together. Seeing Shabani run past and slap the window shows how Nene would fare had she not been separated from him, although I think he was only trying to rouse her. Praying that Nene will recover enough to be with Ai. Poor old lady. But it's good the others can see her. 💕

It's a pity that when building this fairly new enclosure they did not design it so that they would have a small place accessible to the staff, and visible to the troop where they could easily isolate one of the family if necessary. That way, they could've separated Nene and looked after her much better, and made her comfortable in what are likely to be her last days. It's a very sad situation as it is.

Is it possible Queen NeNe has had a stroke? Seeing her craw but at the end of the video she was stepping up. She is very weak but still on this video very aware of her surroundings. I so wish AI could get close to her. It seems to make Shabani upset when she is close to her and he looks like he is trying to protect her still trying to understand what is going on. I just hope she is given something to help ease the pain. I know as said before gorilla are not humans but I tell you one thing they could sure teach us a few things. The care this troop has for one another is amazing. I’m just wondering what will happen if something happens to NeNe because she has always been a protector of Kio her son. Gorillas can die from stress / anxiety and that’s why they need routine so they don’t, an example of this is that another Chinese zoo wanted Annie to be coupled up with one of the boys from mokolo’s troop not Kintaro but the older son that’s 12 because he’s seriously clashing with the silver back however the zoo was so concerned that removing Annie would cause Shabani to be at risk purely because Annie and Shabani have a special bond.

Ai would never hit her mother or hurt her, the rest of them are iffy, but NOT Ai. Ai would comfort her and be with her. I hate the idea of euthanasia but I hate MORE if NeNe is suffering. What quality of life is that for NeNe. :(
