Excellent. It helps me a lot to understand how the devil lies to us and on the other hand how the Gospel is our best weapon against him. Thank God for salvation in Jesus! May you rest in peace, Mr. Keller.

It amazes me the number of people that turn away from following the teaching of Christ because of what humanity has done through the church because of the "LUST" of power and wealth which are tools the devil uses against the GOSPEL and the TRUTH the devil cannot defeat GOD but he can defeat us.
@nomunonsense64999 жыл бұрын
+William Stinson You give no explanation as to why it amazes you. Seems like a pretty sound reason to me.

It amazes me because ignorant people base their opinion on what a lot of people have done using religion to justify their actions rather then what the New Testament teaches ( Do not use the OT until you understand the Covenant promises).

H. Traci, I was referring to the hijacking, corrupting of the faith of the illiterate Ecclesia masses in Europe and twisting the Word of God for power and wealth ruling over Countries, Kings and Queens, being responsible for unholy wars, torture, imprisonment all under the guise that "God wills it" and now for selfish gain we have the Health, Wealth preachers and other charlatans who stand behind the pulpit only to line their own pockets. The saddest result of all this is the usurpers get all the notoriety in school history books and news stories depicting Christianity where as real Christian History, achievements are treated as fluff pieces, all goes into the eyes and ears of the ignorant where they make up their minds against the incredible blessings offered, if they would just look into the most important decision a person can make in their lives, to believe in the true and living God, repent and try to live under the precepts of Christ's definition of a moral, righteous and holy life offering joy, freedom from worry and eternal life in a perfect world or reject the truth live in the flesh and look forward to unattainable happiness, fear, and addiction to things that offer pleasure for a moment and agony for the duration and eternity in isolation in hell.

+William Stinson, word, to that. Considering the fact that the first Hospitals, Colleges and schools were historically created by Christians for the purpose of bringing Glory to God through creating institutions for the betterment of human flourishing. It's too bad that we as people who call ourselves Christians so often don't meet the standards of what we claim to follow (myself included). I have always told myself and others that if you want a clear and perfect example of what a Christian is like, to look at Christ and the first followers in the scriptures.

Within the vast majority of western culture and even Bible believing churches within, there is a tendency to not take seriously many verses emphasizing spiritual dimensions. Our culture is very materialistic and naturalistic with such having seeped into our churches to a great extent. Timothy Keller rightfully points out how such comes from our cultural tendencies and views to under-emphasize the supernatural and deny them. Our culture and churches tend to not talk about the devil, demons, etc. Such isn't also necessary out of a lack of belief but how such has become taboo topics within many churches. Timothy Keller rightfully points towards how underemphasizing and overemphasizing the spiritual dimensions and aspects are both definitive common problems within Christian churches in western culture. But there is also popularity in our churches to overemphasize personal experiences and for people to worship them. There is a tendency and practice to interpret personal experiences or emphasize personal experiences which either run contrary or even oppose the Bible directly as being necessary in many churches. Many people claim their basis of belief purely on personal experiences or emphasize them more than what the Bible states on many answers. What they are effectively doing is replacing the Gospel with personal experiences now. So there is underemphasizing of certain spiritual practices while also overemphasizing of other personal experiences and views which tend to get "spiritualized" by culture. The devil along with demons additionally speak on how temptations, lusts, and other evil seem to have a voice and spirit always. They don't just seem to have material aspects but spirits as well. Just like God has a spirit, evil has a spirit within the world as well which we may not feel. Definitely evil isn't just visible or even in thought forms; but fundamentally in spiritual form as well. The Bible warns us that this spirit of evil by demons even can be present in least expected times. The spirit of evil within what people normally interpret as good actions or prosperous aspects may be evil. The Bible tells us how good works and good character themselves can lead to pride which corrupts people when they aren't careful and thus tools of the devil. The Bible makes it clear that good works can become idols or senses of entitlement and/or pride in themselves.

in the 15 years of being a Christian I can see how the devil has distracted and taken me off course. at first the signs are subtle and it's only with hindsight we can see the schemes. what makes it harder is when it's not obvious. ( the devil uses those in the church who appear 'Christians' to deceive and manipulate.

Satan practices evil subtly. He tempts and accuses people rather than overthrowing their will. Temptation is when the Devil asks us to ignore the holiness of God. Accusation is when he blinds us to the love and grace of God.

There is rulers and authorities and powers in satans kingdom. And yes he does have a kingdom, Jesus himself said so. When he was booted out of God's heaven he setup a counterfeit of what he learned from God.. Do not underestimate it, that verse was wrote that way for a reason. It's not meant to be figurative to convey importance. It's very literal
