Fun fact, go be private security for 3 to 4 years before you decide to become law enforcement ,learn about social dynamics. It’s very humbling, and it will show you who you really are. Security services is in the middle of the compass. Choose your path wisely. Remember that everyone has firearms learn to control yourself and gain your discipline. This is for future cadets, and those who are inspiring to be first responder. May God’s grace be with you, and may his hand protect you‼️

Bro I’m Nigerian and just graduated from the Police Academy. I’m in my FTO phase 1 now. I went through the same bs you talking about and I can relate to everything u just said. Listen to me! I know we go through a lot through the hiring process: the physical and written test, the background, the references, the psychological eval and then gettin into the academy and waking up so early and grinding and trying to learn revised codes and laws plus other bs that comes with it the academy. Listen! Do not stop, it seems your academy was a smaller department, Go to bigger departments, even if you have to move to Austin, Houston or Dallas. Don’t give up on your dream… if the police is what you really want, then go for it cos trust and believe, there’s no other job you can be happy doing, no matter how cool or how much that job pays… if it’s not the police, it’s not it. People are afraid to start all over, Go and apply and start from the beginning, you’re young bro

People who have never been through the police academy have no idea how strict it is. Worse than bootcamp. We had a guy that got sent home because he went to the dorm room with his duty weapon before checking it into the armory. Big no no. He was doing good in the academy. However, they had zero tolerance for code of conduct vuolations. A lot of vets don't realize that most police academies are tougher then basic training. I thought the same thing and like a dummy, I don't prepare myself like I should have after getting out of the military. They ran us to death and I had to study hours for the legal exams. We had a lady with a Master Degree that almost failed because she couldn't pass the night driving test. Luckily, you get two attempts at skills tests and she passed it the second time around.

United States Marine here… if I were you I’d reenlist in the military but cross over to another branch. Marines and Army aren’t ideal for a career ie many don’t reenlist and make a career out of it since it’s two of the tougher branches to spend over 20 years in. But… the Air Force and Navy are way better branches of you’re wanting to make a career out of it. Also look into the Space Force. Many opportunities out there brother. You’ll find something. If I had to do it all over again, when I got out of the Marines I would have reenlisted but switched branches and gone into the Air Force. I spent some time on an Air Force base in Okinawa Japan. Kadena Air Force base and let me tell you, they all got along, the perks were good, no drama and the people seemed to really enjoy their jobs. That’d be the branch I’d choose if I wanted to continue on in the military and make a career out of it. Hope this helps. Cheers 🍻

Doesn’t mean it’s over for you. As an academy instructor hear me out if you’re interested in seeing your dream come true. “ cops” eating shit isn’t the issue here….you are a trainee or cadet and realizing your place for the duration of the program is key. In other words arguing or getting mad cause you thought a staff member disrespected you is a lack of bearing of who you are as a trainee. Different academies have a variety of discipline standards but grabbing wall at attention and shouting sir, ma’am, good morning sir, ma’am etc is standard for many cadets when any staff or employees are anywhere near them. if you’re triggered by “ disrespect” you might want to examine yourself if this is the career for you because it will happen at some level often throughout your career. I took the time to respond because if it’s what you want to do it would be a shame to let one set back like that stop you. You seem like a smart young man who has potential… Learn from it and get back on the grinder.

When you say “eating shit” that’s a negative way of looking at it. Look at it this way instead, someone does something you deem unfair, disrespectful, rude or unjust, ignore it! Life is funny in that in the future you may get the opportunity to humble that person or have a teachable educational moment but you gotta get there first. There are so many departments suffering from staffing shortages, I think you'll have a good chance landing another job, especially having a military background. However, you might want to relocate or find a job in a different part of Texas. But you have to remember one thing..... when you're in the academy, there is no back-talking. You have to eat all the shit that comes your way, even if you disagree with it. Other than that, good luck 👍🏾

This may include but not limited to; disrespectful conduct towards cadre or fellow cadets, stealing, failed drug tests, cheating, sexual harassment, etc. Remember, there are three sides to the truth. The academy side, the cadet side, and the truth that is really spoken.

@@gabelab7252 Remember, the academy is meant to push you to your breaking point. They need for you to reach your breaking point, so you can grow beyond your breaking point. But if you don't know this. Forget it's just a game. Forget it's just a test Then over react. You will always lose out. Learning how to control your emotion is critical to Law Enforcement. I would not be surprised if your situation was planned to test you. You clearly failed the test. And if it was a test, it would have shown how valuable of an asset you could be. Very few cadet need to be tested in this manner. In my experience, very few cadet have breaking point that require methodical measure to reach or for instructors to see. FYI, the idea is for the staff and you to recognize your breaking point. Grow past your current breaking point. Then, learn how not to allow yourself to reach your new breaking point when on the streets, in public or on the job. GET IT! You will be done this way in any basic Law Enforcement training.

Technically, you weren't "fired", since you were still on probationary status, so you weren't actually "hired" yet. The recruit training and the follow-up probationary period are part of the hiring process. So, you weren't actually "fired". Now, people may say I'm playing with words, but these terms DO make a big difference if and when you apply to another LEO agency. Lots of guys get "let go" during the probationary period. It's nothing to be ashamed of. Just take a hard look at yourself and try to fix whatever the problem was that got you released from the academy. But once you are finally 'hired' and complete your probationary period, if you get "fired for cause" after that, good luck ever getting another LEO job again. Nobody is going to want to hire you. But if you only failed to complete your probation, that isn't looked upon as a big deal.

@Gabe Lab that was over 25 years of experience talking, trying to help you and offer advice to put yourself in a better situation. And you just blow it off by accusing people of being a 'troll'. @@2Ajosh Get in the best physical shape you can before the academy. Make sure all your personal affairs are in order so they won't distract you while there. Have a good attitude, meaning you listen well and do as you're told, take notes, and don't be afraid to ask questions in class. If you receive constructive criticism, don't get all defensive, just accept the advice with a good attitude and remember you are there to learn. Don't "stand out", meaning don't be "that guy" who seems to always make a mistake or drags down the class all the time. Try to blend in as much as possible. Have your uniform and personal appearance looking professional at all times. And do not get injured. That is another reason people fail. Try to protect your health. And try to get along with the rest of your classmates. You guys are in this together to try to be a good team player. Don't be the selfish pompous dude who is trying to max every test. Good luck!
