I love the fact you talk about side dots; I need those! Thanks for being so thorough.

Such a simple (and cheap) thing to add - it always amazes me when brands don't bother.

Very impressive! I had the Bowl back bari for years, tuned GCEA, excellent ukulele, that one is so clean sounding. So, new tuners, set of Worth browns, low G, a side dot stick in black, 2 strap buttons, strap and case, still a cheap purchase!!
@GotAUkulele9 ай бұрын
Yep - still very cheap!

I bought one about a year ago. Grover open back tuners and strap button already fitted to body. I use a neck loop strap and I don't use side dots, so a case was all I needed on top. I like the Aquila strings. It's a good deal more at 185 odd but a gereat uke.

Lovely bright tone. I love that neck edge binding but agree with those tuners. Nice one. Thanks Barry

I’m not a big fan of light coloured wood but this is the exception the binding compliments it being new to the Ukulele side dots would be helpful but the saying you get what you pay for isn’t applicable here it’s amazing value nice one Baz 👍

My daughter wants a bright tenor, and I want an instrument which is good value, but doesn’t look cheap! Great review as always, and I will be ordering shortly. Many Thanks 😊

Tis definitely bright. One of the brightest I've ever heard you review . . . at least through my computer speakers. One might want that playing in a band with guitars.

Blummin' eck .. that price! I nearly choked on my glass of wine! I thought you were going to say the price was at least £100 more! The only gripe I had apart from side dots is I wish the logo was darker. However, what a lovely instrument for that price even without a gig bag! Nice review Baz! Thank you!

Yep - me too - and those minor gripes fade into insignificance for £90..

Great review again with another value price point instrument. However, I Hhd to play back the price reveal twice. All that instrument with a passive pickup for that price. Wowsers, makes you wonder why other manufacturers prices are going interstellar. Well done Clearwater. What a lovely bright instrument. Have a great week.

That shifting of color in the book matched top and back when you tilt it from side to side, is called grain runout or just runout for short. It's a sign of inferior wood because it means there was twists in the log. High quality wood that was split rather than sawn have no runout and are the most desirable. If there is runout, there is end grain on the face of the wood which effects stability. It doesnt really have anything to do with quartersawn or not.
@GotAUkulele9 ай бұрын
Not what I was told by a couple of luthiers, but they could be wrong. This Martin example spring to mind www.southernukulelestore.co.uk/martin-c1k-all-solid-hawaiian-koa-concert-ukulele-inc-gigbag/
@Pokelele9 ай бұрын
@@GotAUkulele the tell tale sign of quartersawn lumber is visible medullary rays also called "flecking". In spruce it looks similar to a flame type figure. In some woods like mahogany it looks like a cross hatching pattern. Boards with runout can never be truly quartersawn because some of the grain ends in the face of the board rather than running the entire length. Just trying to educate. This info is easily found and explained in many places on the web.
@Pokelele9 ай бұрын
That martin has runout as well! But in lumber with curly figure like some koa, walnut, maple, mango, and myrtle runout is expected because twisting and curving of the grain is what actually causes the most desirable figure. But that just means it needs to be treated differently than straight grained lumber with no runout.

Thanks Baz..Great review as always. Why are there so many light wood ukes around at the moment I wonder🤔. I'm not a fan .
@GotAUkulele9 ай бұрын
There are - fashion thing I guess. But remember - this is identical to an Ohana that I last saw in about 2014.
@LorraineKenna9 ай бұрын
@GotAUkulele Yes fashions come and go with ukes as with everything I guess. If I had to choose a light wood this one would certainly be at the top of my list , no denying it's a beautiful looking instrument .

Amazing price, what would you recommend for amplifier?
@GotAUkulele9 ай бұрын
Oh that's a whole other massive topic - Not necessarily big wattage, but avoid tiny diameter speaker cones. Look for an amp with an acoustic stage as they will shape these sort of pickups far better than an all purpose amp.
@jensenhealey089 ай бұрын
Fame AG40A is a great amp from DV24/7. Dedicated guitar and mic channels plus reverb and loud enough. Rechargable battery that lasts well. Plus you can use it a s a bluetooth speaker.

You are sorely tempting me here. My wife might even let me buy it (though my existing tenor would have to go on one-in, one-out condition..) as a business expense for busking (thanks to the fact that I earn elsewhere so have to declare busking tips and gig takings to the taxman, things like this are defined as an expense). I would have to see it myself, though, as I am not sure whether I like the all-pale look, but that might just be because of how plain it looks under your lighting.

After adding new string$, tuner$ and a button for the $trap, a ca$e. Maybe side dot decals ... Add an extra $100 for all that at least. hmmmn. Sounds a bit shrill maybe it's those strings. Thanks for reviewing.
@GotAUkulele9 ай бұрын
What's wrong with the strings? I think even if you added all those things it's still very cheap.
@hilltop18459 ай бұрын
No side dots is a bummer but jeez, at that price point, and I mean this as a compliment, you can throw one of those in the car and have a best in class traveler
@GotAUkulele9 ай бұрын

@MariUSukulele9 ай бұрын
Not sure if it is a good or a bad thing if an instrument of this format hits the market at this price point, know what i mean?
@GotAUkulele9 ай бұрын
Kind of - my view is different but similar. If RUMC are putting this out at £90 (and making profit) when it's essentially the same thing that Ohana were putting out at three times the price... where does the fault lie? Clearwater or Ohana? I think this highlights something and not something good in the wider market? Would totally agree if this was just a bad copy - but it's not it's exactly the same and better than some other solid top instruments for sale right now - for half the price. Maybe Clearwater have a point?

Love the pale look. Really awesome deal for a nice ukulele ! And with a pick up ! It’s bright but sounds pretty. Especially picking. Thanks. Good review. I just picked up a spruce Ohana I like with the round composite back. I have it for traveling 🙂
