Goth DIY - Ripped Tights and Sleeves | Toxic Tears

Hi guys! Here's a super easy way to make even the most simple outfit more goth! Works for girls and guys! I've shown how easily it works for girls, and its totally the same concept for guys, even if you're not into looking feminine, just use a pair of ripped tights as sleeves under your t-shirt and it adds some interesting texture to take your outfit up a notch!

Great tutorial. When I was younger in the 90s and gothy clothes weren't as available, me and my friends would make fishnet tops out of old tonight's all the time. :)

I buy fishet stockings and turn them into tops because I'm a clumsy person, and the stockings already have holes in them. If I wear the stockings on my legs, I tug on some of the holes at random to make them wider, and if I make the holes too big, I put a layer of fishnet stockings underneath them.

and you could use the clear nail varnish trick to stop holes getting bigger and would make the whole thing last longer :) x

The clear nail varnish trick is when you put clear nail polish on and around the edge of the rip so that it doesn't expand. I used to use this when I was in ballet and I got a hole in my tights.

aaaaa this looks so much better than the way I do it! I usually poke a tiny hole then stretch it with my fingers, but that tends to make my tights look like a huge mess and I end up having to tie pieces of them together as the holes stretch bigger. Thanks for this tutorial!

oh my gosh thank you. The goth look is bloody expensive, and when your a Goth mummy with mouths to feed and bills to pay it can be hard to do the goth look on a budget! grrrr. But this is awesome, I'm forever ripping my tights by accident. Even the really thick ones, and then I just cry and throw them out lol! I did this and it looks flatline badass. I put them on under my distressed ripped jeans and it just looks amazing. tbh it looks a lot better self made then buying them "pre-ripped" love it

I really want to go goth, but I'm worried what my parents will think. I have a few goth outfits, but my wardrobe is really colourful, and i don't know how to explain to my family that if they're going to buy me clothes then they need to be dark. I like most stereotypical goth stuff, but I need help breaking it to my family. Any help would be appreciated (not worried about friends, they'll accept me no matter what)

I dont really know how to help 'breaking it' to your parents, because mine were both pretty alternative when they were younger (my dad still is, although my mum swore i would 'grow out of it'), however, one way I found easiest to get 'alternative clothes' is when it comes to birthdays and christmas. When they ask you what you want, show them something on a website, like Blue Banana (UK) and such. Maybe dont go straight to the goth section, maybe a few band tees and black skinny jeans with some Dr Martens, and progress it if youre worried your parents will moan. :) Hope this helps!

Just tell them what you want to become and they will understand. I just begun to go Goth myself and I told my parents exactly that. They did worry that I would cut and become a bit mopey but I'm just being myself. I never did that at all but just be yourself, tell them what you want to become, and you will be fine.

On another video someone made a comment suggesting the use of a lit incense stick to make the holes. I tried that and it works great! You can just poke it through for small holes or drag the lit tip for larger holes. Since the holes are burned it helps the tights from fraying. Give it a try. Just be careful so you don't burn yourself.

I used to wear fishnet sleeves all the friggin' time!! I'd also recommend cutting a hole for your thumb in the "cuff" because they do ride up quite easily...
