It's truly pathetic the way DC just continues to try to mimic whatever Marvel is doing, regardless of if it is even what people want or not. Batman has been my favorite Hero ever since I was a kid watching The Animated Series in its first run. It got me into the comics, and with the exception of the Batman and Robin movie I enjoyed the films...and Nolan's Trilogy is not only the best there is as far as comic movies go, they are great films period. But the last several years have made me hate comics and comic movies...we are so fucking far removed from films like the Nolan Trilogy and comics like The Dark Knight Returns it's not even funny. What was just burnout has turned into active loathing and has actually tainted a lot of the stuff I used to love. Thanks a fucking bunch, woketavist cunts.

Honestly the high school setting is the only "unique" thing salvageable from this... and even then that's not that much Like, I could *maybe* imagine Bruce kicking bullies' asses when they pick on people to keep them in line, possibly because his late dad or mom emphasized taking care of those who couldn't care for themselves. Maybe the principal was perfectly okay with the bullies doing what they darn well pleased (maybe they have to report bullying and just want good ratings for the school?) and try to figure out who he is (maybe he suits up during some lunch period IDK), so he maintains his vigilante role. Maybe one of the kids he stands up for is actually Robin and he helps him out too.

Yeah, because that did the smart idea of using the traditional canon as a spring board and using it to create NEW characters. You don't have to re-purpose old characters for roles they don't fit, you can create new characters like Terry & Max and if you write them well, like Batman Beyond did, they will become popular in their own right. Instead of reinterpreting how the DCAU had handled the relationships between older characters, we got to see new characters interact with them. For example, Terry realised that Joker was so used to the "Real Batman" that he could throw Joker off by not acting like Bruce would; trade insults, fight dirty, laugh. As a result the Joker was completely thrown off, this kid wasn't playing the same game. Batman Beyond was a great show. I doubt this comic will match it.

Another issue that wasn't delved into: love triangles are a *bad thing.* Like, you don't *want* to create or be in a love triangle. They create drama, conflict, and heartbreak, and they can ruin relationships. In 2015, I asked PresentPerfect, another FiMFiction contributor and Equestria Daily administrator (and my editor, btw) what he and the EqD moderators would have done if Meghan McCarthy had written EqG as a fan fiction and submitted it to them. His _exact_ words were, and I quote: "Yeah, we definitely would have sent Equestria Girls to the moon." I've said this to every single person I've ever disagreed with over EqG, I'll say it again; the only reason anyone gave a shit about EqG is because it latched itself like a parasitic tumor to MLP:FiM. If Hasbro wanted a magic high school drama to compete with Mattel's Monster High, the smart thing to have done would have been to commission an entirely new series and put Faust at the helm of it, then advertise it as: "From Lauren Faust, creator of Friendship is Magic," like Cartoon Network did with Gendy Tartaskovski's new work (when CN still knew how to put out good shows). Instead, the same creatively bankrupt company that kept Michael Bay employed for a fucking decade went literal magic talking dog (it's a trope) on FiM and monetized an AU highschool fan fiction, banking on it becoming a success for no other reason than counting on the Bronies' misplaced and easily manipulated brand loyalty to catapult it to lucrative returns. And the most disgusting thing is, it half worked; EqG was barely a hit even inside it's own niche market, certainly wasn't s hit outside, but it sure created a lot of fanatical devotees, just like how the execrable sequel trilogy has a lot of apologists for no other reason than "It's Star Wars" (while creating the same broken base (a meta trope) as the sequel trilogy, I might add.) "It didn't have love triangles." Yes it did: Twilight, Sunset, and Flash Fucking Sentry, a character so excruciatingly cliched that people were calling him out as a satellite love interest (another trope) after getting less than three non-contexual seconds of screen time from the first EqG trailer... and they (myself included) were Razorfist levels of right. And then it got even worse when they added SciTwi into the mix... My grill is the last grill you want to try and sell EqG to. You'd more easily sell a three-and-a-half hour long director's cut of The Last Jedi to Mauler.

The worst part was I was rather excited about this. A story about young Bruce Wayne and his life before his long many year quest to become Batman? Sign me up. The opportunities were endless. How Bruce’s life growing up was like. His relationship with his friends like Carter Nichols(Bruce childhood best friend from the original comics), Roman Sionis(Black Mask), and Thomas Elliot(Hush), and family like Alfred, his cousin Kathrine Kane(Batwoman), and maybe even surrogate family member Harold(made literally *ALL* of Batman’s gadgets and tech in the original comics). The rivalry between his family and the Cobblepot family tha drove Oswald(Penguin) to become a crime baron. Perhaps a scene were some one recites the 2 Asylum escapees joke from “The Killing Joke” laugh maniacally the whole time make the audience question if that was the Joker pre-transformation we just saw but never elaborate on whether or not it actually was(in true Joker fashion). Maybe show the root of Catwoman’s thievery as a means of survival from secretly being orphan abandon by her father Don Carmine Falcone(The Roman). Possibly even introduce Harvey Dent and his mental state with “Big Bad Harvey” and how he has to struggle to keep it hidden. Along with possibly throw Victor Zsasz into the mix and how he and Bruce are able to (initially) create a bond over the fact both become orphaned as children and that despite their immense wealth, they can never get what they want most, their parents back(only for one for it to motivate him to become a hero and the other to become a notorious serial killer). Yet the fact that not even bare minimum, much less the stuff those more knowledgeable or better researched on Batman’s history, relationships, and characters would know about, was done was frankly infuriating. The fact the the author has, like Heath Ledger, admitted to *Never* reading a Batman comic in her life made it even worse.

I think a high school taking place in Gotham could be interesting. We could see what the *non-superpowered* teenagers think of all the aliens, wizards, and androids in the world, and how it affects them. Although, it would probably get boring soon. Maybe one graphic novel for every high school in different cities that have superheros in them(Metropolis, Fawcett City, etc). Heck, maybe one in Atlantis to see what they think of the humans! If you want a good story that takes place in the DC universe (specifically Gotham) and in high school I suggest Gotham Academy. The protagonist Olive Silverlock is an ancestor of the Arkham family. The only remaining one if I remember correctly. In the comic she and her friends solve mysteries at there academy that has been around for a long time. It is basically Scooby Doo but in an academy in Gotham.

It's one thing to write characters with aspects taken from your personality or that of those you have known well so you can accurately articulate them; it's another thing to destroy anything unique (read different from yourself and your perspective) because you couldn't conceivably write someone who isn't like you (even changing the color of their skin to match yours, as though this effects their personality).
