I live all these lighter colors! And that hot pink!! I’m going to aim for these colors!

I'm so pleased that I came across this video. This will make painting outdoors so much easier. Thank you for doing the experiment :-)

Thank you so much for doing this experiment! I've been thinking about making a palette for awhile as the main reason why I don't pull out my gouache very often is the amount of cleanup afterwards.
@MinaDoesArtStuff3 жыл бұрын
Yes I think its a great option especially if you have better quality gouache paints. I'm not sure how well this would work if you had more student grade gouache paints if they would rewet as nicely or maintain that opacity.

See this is why I switched to gouache because of the minimal clean up. For me it is just closing my pallet, rinsing glasses and brushes and i’m done.

i have my open gouache in a 24&36 deep well pallletw the airtight ones , perfect one set have been in it and totally wet for months no cracking no drying out ans no cracking
@MinaDoesArtStuff3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've seen those and I even have one myself but really this was an experiment to see if dried gouache would rewet to be as opaque as the fresh gouache to see if having a dried gouache palette would be a significant negative when it comes to using gouache paints or if you really do need to make sure you keep your paints wet etc ... from what I can see some minor cracking which doesn't affect the usability of the paints is the only downside otherwise they work just as well as the fresh paints for almost all of the colours (the only one I had issues with was the Prussian blue but even then it was still useable).

Do you think adding glycerin or honey to the Prussian blue would help?

To be honest in not interested in painting my self. I love watching yours skills improving and your enthusiasm. Also like your testing. I love seeing your process while learning, this applies to knitting and spinning too.

i told myself i wouldn't get into another art media because... i need to budget haha~ but this video really makes me want to get some gouache :D loved the swatches, thanks for sharing!

hehe ... I had the same issue but then I was like - gouache is very similar to watercolour so it cant be that different and now I'm down that rabbit hole I realise it is pretty different but still very similar ... its an odd situation - but I'm enjoying the learning aspect.

Which do you prefer? Winsor & Newton or Shinhan? I can’t decide which to get!
@MinaDoesArtStuff2 жыл бұрын
They are both great quality from what little gouache experience I have … I do think the Shinhan dries/rewets better than the winsor and Newton if that is of importance to you but beyond that I’d say they are fairly comparable quality wise … but equally I’m not an expert with gouache

I use a lipstick container for my gouache that’s airtight so they never dry out and j make sure no mold grows. I don’t love using dried gouache rewetted .

Ooh that’s a fun idea

It’ll crack a lot…
@MinaDoesArtStuff3 жыл бұрын
Well if you've watched the video you will see that not only do they all rewet really well and mostly maintain the same level of opacity as the fresh paint ... so far only one of the colours has cracked to a degree that i would consider annoying but far from being unusable. Some of the others may crack a little more over time but it doesn't stop it being a functional and useable palette or paints.
