Bravo! Love the foreground first.... and dark to light approach. So much WC help for an old oil painter.

Hi Lena, bravo. I love your paintings. This one was beautiful. I noticed that the skirt of the lady on the right was “bugging” you somehow. You painted a dozen or so iterations and they all seemed perfect to me. The one you came to peace with was great. What an amazing talent you have.

Dennis Tyson Plein Air hi, Dennis! No, I don’t. It is Saunders Waterford, it is already sized in gelatin.

I was just wondering if you could include your photo reference in the video. I would love to see how you interpret the actual reference. Its fine if you don’t want to do that.
@LenaRivo7 жыл бұрын
Lommen van Hagen unfortunately I cant. I never work just from a photo. I take my colors either from memory or from a sketch done “en plein air” under similar conditions. I use photos mostly as references for the shapes, sometimes a few photos combining different objects in the composition. I may add a mountain or a distant line of the sea or a lake, etc. Photos lie confusing actual values and colors therefore I never rely purely on them..

Were you keeping the gouache at full strength, Lena? ~ Carla ~
@LenaRivo6 жыл бұрын
Paul & Carla Chapman no, Carla. It may seem very bright but I rarely use pure colors in any medium. Many of the colors in this painting may be considered “grey” as they were mixed with a bit of complementaries or close complimentaries.
@paulcarlachapman6286 жыл бұрын
I think I didn't express it well. Was the paint diluted with water any or much? I love the painting!
@LenaRivo6 жыл бұрын
Paul & Carla Chapman thank you, Carla! Yes, I add some water to gouache but never too much. It shouldn’t look or feel like watercolor. Gouache has to stay creamy. I would say I add water to it on a slightly but not completely wet brush.
