I think having some texture on the paper is super important. I always have some trouble with claire fontaine paper because it is so smooth that it promotes skipping and hard starts. I usually go for rhodia because it is cheaper but still good quality.

I love Graphilo paper and I love the way ink shades and shows ink properties. Better than tomoe river to me or is it just me? Oh thoroughly enjoyed this.

Hi Azizah, splendid review, as always. I just compared Graphilo with Tomoe River (52gsm) and Cosmo Air Light papers. CAL made most inks on TR look dowdy, but I preferred TR's silken texture to CAL's drag-assy texture. Since I like a wee bit of paper sensation, but not CAL's kind of 'waxiness,' Graphilo might be my Goldilocks paper now-too bad three of the lovely A5 slim notebooks will cost you north of US $100! PS: You? Burden? Hah!

I agree with what you say here Jack T. I don’t mind the drag of the CAL but I do mind that all 6 nibs of mine write far broader and I hate that. So, yep, my 75gsm CAL is not gonna get much attention from me. Looks like I’m gonna have to find some Graphilo too.

Would like to see you test specifically sheening and shimmering inks on papers. Those of us who like these inks won’t use any paper with texture that absorbs the sheening crystals that refract a second color or the metallic sparkles that shimmer.

I've been using PCP from Asia. It's thin like Tomoe River but not quite as slick. I have purchased several A5 pads of letter paper, but have been hoarding it until my other papers are used up. I sort of have an 'eat my cake, but keep it, too syndrome. When I hear about new FP Friendly papers I want to try it but if I got it,in don't want to use it after I make my test page

Not a waste of paper! if it makes u happy & looks pretty then its a good use of paper. Although u demonstrated the shading and sheening im wondering how the graphilo still measures up in your eyes. would u still say its a good choice, specifically for shading, or do you recommend another notebook? I really love shading. Never seen a folden pen like that!
