When ppl say "next bolt" do they mean dominating the sprinting game or achieving wr's?? Cuz if we go off the first definition than tebogo somewhat succeeded in the bolt comparison

47:06; No shade to Thea LaFond but choosing her as the comp for Tara DW is obviously incorrect as any Field fan will immediately point out that both her World Indoor & OLY TJ Golds in '24 are highly linked to the best to ever do it in WR Holder Yulimar Rojas (1m Followers) unfortunately missing the '24 season due to Achilles Surgery :( The freak of nature has literally put a full meter on her competitors in Elite Level TJ competitions! If the sport's not careful & keeps heading down this road, I fear it'll eventually splinter & segregate itself in what will feel like a blink of an eye into for example; 'World Sprint Champs', 'World Distance Champs' & 'World Field Champs'. Even excluding someone like Neeraj Chopra (9.6m Followers), something like the next 20 Most Followed Field/Combined Events Athletes are between 1.4m Followers (Mondo) - 300K Followers (Katarina Johnson-Thompson) with Rojas, TDW, Tamberi & Mondo all above 1m each. Data shows the Most Popular Field Events are HJ, LJ, JAV, PV followed by HAM, SP, DISC & TJ (not a coincidence that WA included the former 4 for both M&W @'26 Ultimate Champs unlike the latter 4 as well unfortunately). Worth pointing out that each GST Meet is a 3-day Meet with a '3hr Broadcast Window Per Day' (with no Field Events) i.e. there's going to be a LOT of downtime that'll end up filled with pundits doing a LOT of talking with a LOT of video packages played on a loop that could instead be filled by innovative fast moving HJ, LJ, JAV & PV competitions for example where the size of each Field is scaled back to 4 ppl max with 4 attempts max per athlete (instead of the usual 6) with a strict 30s time limit between each Athlete's attempt!

I'm with you on it's got to be T&F (Track & Field). If you're going to put the clock on the Field then you gotta do the same for Track. Especially since the 100m/200m/400m are over in seconds. The hold up in races is the set ->gun. That may reduce the number of false starts. Also with false starts, just line up the contestants and run the race under protest and sort it out later. All in all, is the T&F down time as long as it is for football or basketball considering challenges, flags, fouls, replays, and the officials giving the calls?
@joyce26803 күн бұрын
Relays and hurdles were always my favorite events. There's degree of difficulty, coordination, precision, and timing in addition to speed! The Steeplechase adds distance and water traps to the hurdles concept. The 100m is low on the totem pole for me - exciting but not as intense as the mind field that relays, hurdles, and the SC can be. The Field events are needed in Grand Slam. If pundits would appreciate and advertise T&F in its totality instead of segments it would be better. There's no other sport in the entire world that has multiple events. There's something for everybody. Our parents had us participate in T&F from 1st grade through HS. Don't get in the way when Dad got on 95S to Philly! I miss that.

What do you guys think about a track and field event called “Moment” held after final Diamond League event where only athletes who did not make the final in Olympics/Worlds and last Diamond League are allowed to compete. This would be an opportunity for athletes from both smaller countries and larger-depth countries (US, Jamaica, Kenya, Ethiopia, etc.) who missed the finals in majors to have their moment. Thoughts?
@SCATrackandFieldКүн бұрын
Unfortunately, I think an event of that nature would struggle from a marketing perspective. Because the biggest names of the sport is how promoters are used to selling it. They really would not know how to brand an event around the faces people don’t recognize as much.
@tomerkritz3 күн бұрын
20:30 - Rob, a question - was the weight of the expectations on Emanuel Wanyoni astronomical ? Yes, it most definitely was ! And what did Wanyoni do ? He won an Olympic gold medal in the 800 at age 20. Maybe you should be a little bit more humble with your predictions. I don’t know if Gout Gout will 100% be the next Usain Bolt, but it can definitely happen, and the odds are not bad considering his evident potential - So we will just wait and see in the future
@SCATrackandField3 күн бұрын
The 800m is very different from the short sprints, so the history of the events are not synonymous in terms of athlete development. That said Wanyonyi was world ranked #1 in 2023. So he was no longer a “prodigy” he had arrived. The expectations for the athlete in question are only based on potential shown in races with no real stakes. So I would say on both accounts it’s a different situation.
