From one scientist to another...BRAVO!!! Love your logbook of lab data. I am enjoying learning more about the physiology of the human health and nutrition. A completely different realm of science than my background. Stuff that was never really taught in schools. But, with the internet so much info is available is finally easily accessible....but the bad part is that there is so much info available!! Sorting through the weeds can be daunting. I have to joke that now that I have found out that everything is bad for us humans, we should stop eating anything, stop drinking anything, including the water, and don't breathe the air, it's polluted too!!

I have a 9.2 uric acid level. The reason I got it tested is that I had a recent gout flare that lasted 3.5 weeks (1 week of extreme pain and the rest moderate). I can still feel it lightly. But since I only get a gout flare up 2 times a year, the doctor said he'd like to first try anti inflammation prescription (25mg Indomethacin) which I take at the time of a gout attack. But I want to go to the root of it, so thank you for the research. I ordered David Perlmutter's book, Drop Acid, to gain a bigger picture. I will also begin taking Quercetin supplements that you suggested in other videos.

Well done. Great advice!. I will look in to finding one of those meters. He must not be Canadian. Last thing you want to do here is waste your time in our socialized healthcare system by going and talking to a dr about your gout. They have one answer only and its take these pills for the rest of your life. Even after blood tests they wont touch diets, exercise, organs, guts, insulin, you name it. Anyone looking for that need a naturopath dr

Appreciate your work. I’m learning a lot. I got my first gout attack last month and was lab tested at 7.7 during the attack. I got my levels down to 6.4-6.6. I took quercetin and a Cherry/celery seed supplement and my levels surprisingly rose to 8.9 4 hours later. Did you ever get an attack from your spikes? Thanks gain for all your information you put out!
@DrPetesKetoKlub
@DrPetesKetoKlub 2 жыл бұрын
I never had spikes when my UA was elevated above 8 mg/dL. I've had spikes when my UA was not consistent. Like a series of spikes with lows to 8 mg/dL. I had the most new flares when I went on allopurinol. My flare on allopurinol was UA 4.5 mg/dL. I honestly think that flux matters. Getting a consistent value of UA and holding the line is key.

Dr. Pete, I have been on a diet of no beef, salami, shrimp and this has help me control my gout for the past 8 months. My uric acid went from 7.8 to 5.7. I basically eat now chicken, salmon or king fish or red snapper maybe once a week. Basically my main protein is chicken and fish and alot of salads to include cucumbers. I also snack on cheese (Edam cheese or Gouda cheese) and nuts (cashews, almonds). However I recently spoke to my Podiatrist and she said that cheese and nuts can cause gout. But I had looked these snacks up and read their are of low purines and even recommended for gout. Can you tell me your input on this. Is cheese and nuts bad for gout. Thank you.
@peterdelannoy
@peterdelannoy 8 ай бұрын
People have different sensitivities to food types. Nuts are pretty high in carbs and if you eat a large volume of them then you can have enough of a glucose effect to open fructose-uric acid pathway that produces UA so the podiatrist is correct. The cheese drives an umami effect and some types of cheese can be high in carbs. Some people can eat cheese without a gout effect but we tend to limit volume and eat hard cheeses that are low in carbs..

I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice. I would make sure to be absolutely consistent with your lifestyle. Make sure that you are keto-adapted. Then, because of the issues surrounding allopurinol, I would experiment with tart cherry and quercetin. Meal timing and sleep can help as well. I have links to the supplements in my show notes. Also, I've produced some videos on these issues.

@DrPetesKetoKlub
@DrPetesKetoKlub Жыл бұрын
I generally test morning fasting because this is when UA should be highest. However, late afternoon at a time that is most likely not effected by a meal could be fine as well. The point is, that if you are going to measure only one value per day then be consistent because UA varies with your biological clock.

Dr. Pete - how much have you found uric acid levels to range in the course of a day? In a week? Was just diagnosed with gout and high uric acid and through lifestyle, diet, and supplement changes, am curious how much and over what time period I can alter my uric acid levels. I realize mileage varies from person to person, but what was your experience when starting in terms of my questions? Thanks.
@DrPetesKetoKlub
@DrPetesKetoKlub 2 жыл бұрын
UA tends to be highest in the morning and lowest in the late afternoon. UA varies inversely with nitric oxide which tends to be lowest in the morning and highest in the late afternoon. In me, the daily trend as the day progresses is 1-2 mg/dL before treatment with allopurinol , tart cherry, quercetin. now the trend is smaller, my average is ~5.5 mg/dL. Before treatment, the average was 7-8 mg/dL. At the beginning of low carb UA was 8-9 mg/dL with spikes to 10-11 mg/dL. After keto-adaption UA was 7-8 mg/dL. In my case keto-adaption was about 1 year. The first thing to do is eliminate sugar and alcohol. Then consider cutting carbs. Also, looking at your metabolic profile to evaluate for presence of diabetes markers or cardiovascular disease.

This video was in response to requests by my subscribers. At the time other UA instruments were just coming on to Amazon. In the past UASure was the only option in North America. Other units are available now and may be lower cost. I do not make anything from UASure. I advocate for meters because I believe that we should take control of our own health and only getting an UA value once a year from your GP doesn't tell you much. Moreover, by metering you can evaluate the foods that you eat directly which provides actionable data you can use to lower UA.
