He made a great judgment was ahead of time. Put the state of emergency in place before it hit. Quick response The builders need 2 b accountable for drainage before they build in low places

As a lifetime sarasota resident My question is why did sarasota county spend million's (not sure the amount) a little over 25 years ago with the celery field project and other projects to Fix the flooding issues along phillipi creek. All for it to happen again in the same areas that flooded in the past.

Elevation of a property is like displacement of engine. There is no replacement for displacement.

We live on Phillippi creek. Neighbors redeveloped their property, and built a bigger house, and moved in a lot of dirt to make a big foundation. Now all their rainwater drains into our backyard, and it’s reverting back to a marsh. It’s all interconnected

As a life long Floridian, whom has lived here, along with four generations of family, been through TS all the way up to Cat 3 what was possibly a Cat 4 with no power for two weeks in one storm, I think I have enough right to say that Governor DeSantis has done the best job while in office in the Natural Disaster department. He is Americas governor for the people! With that said, with the monies allocated to counties from the state and who knows on the Federal level, I think that if you know of the rain potentials with a coming storm, you should be draining all of these areas prior to the storm. From my understanding, and I work with some state, federal and county environmental entities, and or know some people within those groups. Once a state of emergency is instated, you can drain in order to protect people’s lives, even if is not in your jurisdiction meaning state or federal levels. I am only going based of what I have been told from all three tiers of government and environmental platforms. There is no reason why Manatee Lake should not of been lowered at a reasonable volume coming out, so that by the time the storm got there, the flooding at the very least, would of been minimal in an otherwise non flood zone. There are many more areas that are in the same bucket that I have lived around, and I can tell you they started draining canals, lakes etc in order to ensure there was minimal flooding. Some people in power make not so great decisions based on power trips and it is infuriating to me. If you allow these structures to be built and accept the monies and taxes for them, why are you so hell bent on not protecting them… I also think it’s a lot of miscommunication between the city , county, water management, state environmental management interests. Power trips logic sometimes. Another thing that must be addressed, is that if you live in an HOA, in many places, the HOA is the deciding factor in , if and when your lakes within a community get lowered before a storm. They are the deciding factor to get someone out to drain your lakes and canals in your community.Government organizations have the right to do so beyond your neighborhood in most cases. Most homeowners do not know this, and it’s up to your HOA to do so. That is my two cents for whatever it’s worth and I hope it helps some in understanding the chain of command in water rights, land writs and so forth. Wish the best for all of you that have been affected and prayers for you. 🙏

That zipped up jacket is the perfect item to be wearing in this blazing heat. It's 95-100 degrees outside. Why would someone do such a thing?
