HOW To Clean Up The Nasty Under The Hood | GR Corolla (It's Not What You Think)
In this video I fix an issue that has bothered me since the day I brought my GR Corolla home more than a year ago. The problem doesn't exist anymore with a simple hood insulator. Without it though it would drive me crazy as I could see the areas that the paint didn't cover under the hood.
The biggest issue was that the hood insulator for a 2023 Corolla hatchback didn't fit my 2023 GR Corolla hatchback. After some measuring and checking we found out that the hood on the GR Corolla is stamped the same as the hood on the 2019-2021 Corolla hatchback and that hood insulator fits perfectly.

Cause the 19-21 (J)vin were aluminum, and the 22+ were steel hoods.

Interesting. So the early years had an aluminum hood but they are steel now? It's still strange as to why they moved the holes for the tabs a couple of inches. Thanks for the info!

Amazing! Who would think that? Did u research on a Toyota site? I don't own a Corolla, but I am always looking to fix up my Toyota. Did u notice it's QUIETER? I live in the rust belt, don't have a garage, so I got mine undercoated. My Camry rusted mostly in front of the hood, not thru but did. I love all Toyotas & am always learning. You're doing a great job! ✊️👍

Thank you! I appreciate it. I originally ordered on for a 2023 Corolla hatchback but the tabs didn't line up. I then returned to the dealer and we found out that the 2019-2021 Corolla hatchback had a different part number so they ordered one of those. When it came in the next day I had measured the slots for the tabs and when I measured the 2019-21 hood insulator the tabs were perfect and the rest of the holes for the plastic plugs were the same! Not sure why this is the case but at least we figured it out and I could let others know about it.

Since we dont have the hood vents on this model, is there anything to do to reduce the heat inside the engine bay, this is my first turbo car, heat is the biggest enemy, i want to reduce as much heat as posible when the car on the road or even at stop.

The car is designed to flow air through the grill and bring it up through the slots in the radiator cover. It then flows over the engine and down the back of the engine and out under the car. The things that will make the biggest differences will be controlling oil and coolant temps if you track the car. If you don't track it you should be fine. If you do track it I would look at adding an oil cooler. I'm not sure if anyone has come out with a larger capacity radiator yet. Maybe check with Mishimoto on that option.

@@yilizhang5857 I was referring to the larger radiator. They've been doing a good job on those for many years. I've not heard of any negatives on their oil cooler, just some general negatives from some people that don't like them. I've never had a bad experience.

I know you have the GR Corolla 2023, but do you know what Hood Insulator fits the Toyota Corolla Sedan 2024 LE?

I've never looked at the 2024 LE sedan hood but I imagine that the parts department will be able to find that easily enough since the XSE comes with one I believe.

I gonna do some sound deadening on my doors. Think about doing the hood insulator. Will it reduce the noise from the engine? How about the heat will it generate more heat under hood? Thx

I won't generate any heat and might absorb some heat. It will protect the hood paint from engine heat but most of the heat in the engine bay is designed to be taken out and down under the car from air vent in the grill and radiator cover.
