Class compliant 8-channel audio interfaces can be hooked up to it for multi-outputs. It has a built in HDMI port plus you can connect a keyboard to it... if you feel the nedd for a bigger screen and more buttons. I find that kind of thoughtful, especially if you want to a lot of utility work on your library or samples.

Can the slider be used as some kind of sound morpher? Like on the Octatrack where you assign different modulation amounts on two sides of the slider.

The idea of the horizontal slider is indeed to control the position in the sample. And many of the typical "for-granular" samples are morphs. :) We're also planning to do macro controls / morphs in newer firmwares, where you can tweak a bunch of knobs and then those will morph using one destination in the mod matrix.. or, now you mention this, with the horizontal slider. Thanks for the proposal!

I struggle to figure out the relevance of “5000 grains per voice”. Maybe someone can clear this up for me because I’ve seen grain count advertised for a handful of granular hardware synths lately. If i understand correctly, granular synthesis utilizes a sample essentially held under a microscope (grains) and scrubbed through etc. I assume more is good and morer is gooder, but how does grain count relate to variable sizes of sample files? So what my brain tells me is this, granular synth voice = sample = 5000 grains? Does this just mean no matter how large my file size is I get 5000 grains of density?

5000 grains playing at the same time as a _system total_. Per voice it's limited to 128. Often at 100 grains you'll already won't be able to hear the difference between 100 and 120 grains. It depends on how they're spread out over the samples and over pitch. By playing multiple voices (chords on the keyboard for instance), you'll start using more than 128 grains. Then you can open up multiple layers to add even more. The sample size does not determine how many grains there can be playing.. Only the grain rate, grain size, the number of keys you're playing on your keyboard, and the amount of open layers.

Hi , could you give me information , if i order and pay GR-Mega from your website shop tommorow , how long i will have to wait to receive it in Sweden or Finland ? and does GR MEGA have real time stretch smooth uninterrupted quality performance like SERATO Sampler for example , and then something like in Multiposition mode could i apply and lock memorize each different desired grain position and parameters to each different key across midi keyboard so each key on keyboard would represent different desired grain or sample position and different parameters lock instead of having it playing in only Random positioning mode with only one same parameters like in GR=1 ? plus i would also need to when in that potential should i call it my imaginary Multiposition keyboard mode to select desired key or position on midi keyboard and then switch to Singleposition mode and have that certain key grain sample position with own parameters across all midi keyboard , and have posibility to switch or select that certain sample grain to be realtime stretched or not . and then again go back to Multiposition keyboard mode and select another key with different grain position on keyboard and go again to Singleposition keyboard mode ? I do have first version GR-1 and i like it but i noticed that its kind of limited and half way so i would need those parameters or algorithms mentioned above to be available into this new MEGA model. If you can help me with further information

Hello! The waiting line is a about 5 months long now. For your other questions: The MEGA is intended for transformative stretches than instead for DJ mixer time stretch. We may add a clean stretch at some point.. we have to see. For the rest, the MEGA is intended to be able to modulate everything grain related including position and utilize any MIDI/MPE device for this purpose. You can easily modulate grain position per voice individually. The GR-1 could also do this btw. By adjusting amount in the matrix you can easily morph between single and multiple positions too. This is easier on the MEGA because of it's more complete matrix and easier matrix screen.

I see it's gone from 11 to 20 voices. What other substantial improvements over GR-1 ? I'm not intimately familiar with the original but have always been moderately interested in getting one. Probably a good time to buy a used GR-1 when this thing is available, unless it's a night and day difference, worth the extra buckaroos.

(1) GR-1 has no audio input jacks, so you have to get a class-compliant USB audio interface to record samples into the device yourself. GR-Mega has stereo input jacks. (2) GR-1 only records mono samples, though the output from the GR-1 is stereo. GR-Mega is stereo in, stereo out. (3) GR-1 file/project manager is pretty clunky. Judging from the video, the GR-Mega enjoys a much improved file/management UI. Plus more that I'm not covering. GR-Mega is definitely worth the extra money.

Does this have real-time processing of external audio? As in feed audio to an input, through granular fx, and output it back into your daw. Or do you have to record the audio to the machine first, and only then apply granular processing? I'm just wondering whether it has any uses as an FX unit, or if it's strictly a synthesizer. Looks amazing either way!

Does the GR1 just have one of the megas 5 engines? It's a shame you can only have 4 layers out it could be an amazing sampler - would be good if you could split the voices how you like and have more layers. Could be like an akai but granular!

The GR-1 has 2 of the 5 engines: tape and granular. The GR-1 also has a very spartan sampler mode. The GR-MEGA has 20 voices _per layer_, so 80 in total.
