Jack, If you want to make retopology even better on yourself, look into polyquilt. Its a built in free asset and it will make your life INSANELY better, its basically quad-draw from maya. Don't ever do it by manually creating verts its a mess, and not the way people do it anymore.

Hey Jack, Regarding your personal stress and challenges lately, I'm really sorry to hear you're going through that. You're a huge inspiration to everyone here and what you're doing is important. Regarding your imposter syndrome- you've almost certainly heard this already, but it's something everyone in your position goes through and is totally normal. Nothing is wrong with you, and you're making impressive progress at an equally impressive speed. I've been doing game dev for around 7 years now and you're catching up to me at a pretty alarming rate (please stop haha). You address so many important questions that all of us face when learning game dev that are not answered in the bulk of tutorial content for whatever reason. It feels good to know that we're not crazy and that others feel similarly. Game dev is extremely difficult, combining aspects of so many different art forms into one, and its nice to have a sense of community as we struggle to learn together. I'm also really sorry to hear about your breakup. I know the time directly afterward can feel really shitty, and I'm sorry you're having to endure that right now. I know it's cliche, but it'll only get better over time, and you have a swarm of people here for you if you need to talk. Wishing the best for the both of you. I'm also sorry to hear about the financial uncertainty of your current situation. I know it can be uncomfortable to ask, but I and many others are happy to support you (I know I'll be subbing to the Patreon while you're going through this) because you're doing important work, but you're also human and I'm really glad to see you're putting your mental health first and taking a break. It's unsustainable to push yourself endlessly, and you're doing the righ thing. I hope you're able to have a good break despite the issues your facing at the moment, and just remember that everything is going to be fine. Looking forward to your return, but take all the time you need. Love you man! ❤

Honestly, it's insane how much progress you're making. It's always extremely intimidating to start developing games, especially with long videos, confusing game engines, and programming languages, and the fact you're able to surmount that is already a lot. And more so than that, the rapidity of it all is really admirable. Also, being able to make actually interesting games design-wise is a huge asset.

@@dungeonmaster217 Thats why we form a team and complete where each other lack... otherwise gotta purchase assets and "flip" them I dont like that term because people work hard on creating assets and people lack the ability to make good assets should be able to purchase and use them in their games as intended by the creator, what determines a lazy asset flip vs just using assets you need in your game.

Just wanna say this is legitimately the ONLY video out there that actually describes the whole pipeline of making characters/assets for games. Most just say "bought it", "modeled it", "just got it from a friend". Most 3d modeling channels don't talk about UV maps & retopology as much as you do because they're not game focused it's actually nuts how long it's taken for a video to go over the whole process from start to finish so people who want to make a 3d game now understand what they'll go through.

Earlier this summer I was torn between two projects I wanted to work on; something in game-dev, or a film made in unreal engine. I was juggling back and forth constantly until you started your own game-dev journey. So basically- I saw you doing your thing, took none of your advice and make a film instead- But! It did very much jump start that project! I'm 6 months into animating penguins and still loving it. As I'm also working in the game industry by filming trailers, I too find it hard sometimes to be inspired to do your own creative work when a lot of creative energy is taken up by a job. But, I think it also proves to me just how important it is to take time for yourself, and keep a nugget for your own JUICE and make it a priority to have something just because you love it. Anyways, just wanted to say thanks and random people do watch and very much appreciate what you do.

This is the reason I come to your channel specifically on every upload. I don't delay or wait and I make sure to watch it instantly. Clever and goofy jokes. Honest opinions and feelings put into your words. But the human aspect of it all. You aren't afraid to explain mistakes, or how you did something wrong. Maybe why you feel something is incorrect. In a game you play, or your own personal journey in making something. Absolutely keep going man. Life can mess you up. But just know there's people like me who see you and go, "Damn, that guy really has the stuff". Cheers.

this is better than a tutorial because of how it sheds light on the whole process, you earned a like and a subscribe buddy!

I can't express how helpful and inspiring this video series has been as an aspiring indie game dev. Still love the other content but these videos make it seem so achievable.

I hope you feel better after taking the break. KZbin, game development, art, even life can be hard. I've had a lot of things happen to me that has effected my content and artistic journey so I can relate (to some degree everyone's situation is different) with self-doubt, anxiety, and sadness. But you make great stuff man, i cant wait to see what you make next year and I hope the month of rest helps

Great work! It is really inspiring, some stuff I noticed that could help when texturing is to use generators on black/white masks in Substance Painter where you can explore a lot for example, you can bake in lighting if you want certain details and usually use them as a base for hand-painted textures. Love your work and gets me pumped to work on my own stuff.

I loved that video. It reminded me of the time when I tried to learn modeling on blender 2.3 20 years ago. I was shit but every progress was worth it. Keep up the good work and take the time you need to get back. Best wish from France

I need you as my college teacher. You explain stuff better than 99% of teachers (even though the topics are not related)

As a newbie-wannabe-3D-artist it's insane how relatable some situations are when we are starting in this awesome artistic world, even the same tuts lol Excited for the content on Playable Workshop! Have a good rest friend, take your time, after all it's the best healer.

I actually learned a lot from this video, Blender is a beast but once you get moving it's so satisfying
