Why 3 days? What is the meaning behind this number of days before Christ resurrected? I only know there is another reference to it when Jonas stayed in the fish before he was released from it ; but I wonder if there is a spiritual meaning behind it, or symbolical. And 3 refers also to the Trinity, or also the triune man.

@@MrWookie21 1. So that the unbelieving Jew could not deny His death. They believed after 3 days the spirit departed. Similar to Lazarus. They would not be able to deny Jesus rose Lazarus. 2. To fulfill prophecy .Jesus Himself said he would be in the ground 3 days. Jesus died on the Friday when the Passover lamb was sacrificed. He rose on the 3rd day, the first day of the week. Signifying a new beginning

@@jessyjonas4988 I read you thanks, I'm not sure about the meaning of departed you're mentioning ; since in Matthew 27:50 it says "Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost." So the spirit departed instantly after His death on the Cross ; not 3 days later. But for instance I believe His soul went directly into Hades and confronted every single soul of the entire human race until His day of return, that every believer past, present and up coming during His trial might receive eternal life. I understand that Jesus' soul paid the ransom for everyone of these believers' soul before He resurrected from the dead 3 days later and raised out from the tomb. The believers' bodies of sin were each one crucified on the Cross ; but each soul confronted judgement in Sheol and was acquitted & saved individually by Jesus' blood. I also think the shroud Jesus left in the tomb, represents the dead flesh or the veil that has been torn to allow the believer to become born again, allowing revelation through the Light of Jesus by receiving Christ in them & into their heart. I also see a correlation with the veil that was torn appart in the Temple when Jesus died on the Cross. And that seems also connected with the coats of skins Adam & Eve were clothed by God after the fall "Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them" (Genesis 3:21). While leaving the veil, the coats of skins in the tomb (the baptism of Christ) believers can resurrect with Christ into a new creation ; the new beginning as you said. Otherwise, God is also 3 times Holy.

@@jessyjonas4988 I think what Ed means is that some "Christians" take the word "believe" intellectually and say "yes I believe in Jesus just like I believe that George Washington was the first president of the United States. But of course I've never actually seen him. Believe in the bible means to put your trust in Him.

@Ligonier Ministries Thank you so much for your ministries! My only question is... didn't J.I. Packer kind of throw his hands up over the doctrine of just, by, faith alone?... It seems to me that that needs to be addressed if we are going to assume a straightforward path from here and on...

Did Augustine refer to the virtue of converts as 'splendid virtue' or was he referring to the virtue of unbelievers?

I love R.C. but his teaching here today spoke a little too much to me as someone sitting on the fence and not trying to offend anyone. If the view of bringing your faith to the table to be saved is not an important salvation issue, I don't know what is. I think JI Packer got it right with his statement and R.C. was not willing to go that far as to not offend those who do not agree that the Bible clearly teaches the doctrines of grace and that we bring NOTHING to the salvation table. Disappointed in this teaching.

RC has said elsewhere that Arminians can be saved, if they don’t take their theology too seriously
@riandewind28 күн бұрын
The way I understood it is that R.C. didn't at all sit on the fence. His position was clearly that he disagrees with Armininiasm, but his question was whether one can be saved if one holds the wrong doctrine on some point. Regarding Armininianism he felt that you can't judge that they are all doomed for eternal damnation because of their views, but that they can still be true Christians even if they are wrong about this.
