I have a question. How can she study nursing online? What about drawing blood and all of that technical things?
@momoflittleladies6 ай бұрын
Our state is picking and will not except certain college nursing program degrees; I assume her daughter will be limited to practice nursing to a few specific states.

@@momoflittleladies and they risk all of that for religion...for being scared of other world views, like they are limiting their doughters opportunities because they dont want here to hear about idkn evoultion or meet people of different upbringings, cultures and religions...how does that make sence, plus if i was a patient i was assinged a nurse with online degree i would leav a hospital

You’re actually 100% wrong. The entire nursing degree is NOT ONLINE. maybe you should google and actually learn before commenting? The prerequisites can be done online. This is VERY COMMON. And a widely done practice. Maybe next time listen more closely??
@GraceandGrit6 ай бұрын
That’s also incorrect. Please have facts before commenting. The school provides stats for pass rates and hiring. Both of which are very strong at GCU. It’s all about the NCLEX 👌

Everyone considering this, be sure to check what your state offers as well. Dual enrollment tuition is free in some states!

True through a state college, we wanted a private Christian college.

I got my master’s in educational leadership from GCU. My daughter will be starting dual enrollment this summer. GCU lets you do dual enrollment as a sophomore, which many don’t do.
@EducationalRoots6 ай бұрын
I also agree that GCU really isn’t so “Christian.” But I also agree with you that for most classes GCU is fine.

My state offers free dual enrollment for state universities. Private offers a discount. My previous institution offers dual and discounts for those that a parent is a current or was a previous student. My current institution offers free dual enrollment because of the program I'm in. Parents may want to look into their alma mater's to see what is offered. Also I've seen trade schools offering lower cost options for dual enrollment. There are a lot of options out there and the past several years have become very accomodating for homeschoolers.

Our local community college provides a version of 'University Success' which I've heard is really helpful for both dual & regular enrollment students.

Hoping someone can answer this question- when applying for dual enrollment, do we give the parent email or the students? I want my son to be able to use his email for classes but am I still the main contact in getting him set up since he’s a minor?
@GraceandGrit5 ай бұрын
Get him his own! There’s a lot of rules around the info they can give you even though he’s a minor. You’ll sign a form at the end, but even as a parent you can’t do anything without him also stating it too.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts & experience! I appreciate it! You mentioned that it's going to save your daughter money, but it's costing you money, so how is it gonna save her money? Is it just because you're paying for it now and then she's gonna pay for the college later? Or are the college credits cheaper as a dual enrollment student? TiA!!
@GraceandGrit6 ай бұрын
Both! And if she were to enroll full time on campus she’d have less time to live in dorms and attend school to get her degree thus saving time and money.

We have done limited dual enrollment ( for a variety of reasons) but the ones we did were all at Faith Bible Baptist in Akeny Iowa. Most of my kids probably won't attend there because they have very limited majors ( mostly church work) but they are super strong in doctrine. We are also close enough that my kids can go during the summer and they do a summer jumpstart program to take a week of summer class and then finish it at home online so that is a good taste of college experience. I'm sure other colleges do similar things as people look around.

Now that you’ve realized that the school isn’t biblically as sound as you had expected, does that change your thoughts on enrolling in a local CC for free?

No, because while it’s not fully theologically sound it’s also not antagonistic at every turn to faith.

I live in Phoenix. We are doing dual enrollment at GCU as well. I have been quite disappointed at the secular nature of this Christian school. I have friends taking graduate level classes and it might as well be a state school. It's fine for dual enrollment online, though. I'm glad my daughter is getting her courses for less than $100/hour!
