[ Exercises for Today’s Lesson 📝 ] I decided to translate most of them into Chinese for you, so you can just try choosing the correct “become” word to use: (If you practice them in the comment section, I will check your answers!) It’s getting cold. 天氣 _____ 冷了。 / simplified: 天气 _____ 冷了。(lit. The weather became cold) He wants to become a lawyer. 他想 _____ 律師。 / simplified: 他想 _____ 律师。 This building became a ruin. 這棟大樓 _____ 了廢墟。 / simplified: 这栋大楼 _____ 了废墟。 This song became very popular. 這首歌 _____ 很受歡迎。 / simplified: 这首歌 _____ 很受欢迎。

Hi, Grace, I just want to say thank you, even though we are like competitors on youtube (but I have way fewer subscribers than you😝) This video: HOW TO SAY BECOME IN CHINESE is the video that I always want to make, as a Chinese teacher myself, I understand how confusing the differences between all these "becomes" are, and you've made them so easy to understand! I sent this video to my students, thank you again!
So this is how you met..Here after your collaboration video😂😂 Anyway you're both amazing we love you both🤗😊

At first, I was like, hmm... 10.5 minutes for one word? But after watching, every second was SOOOO good. There was not a single second wasted. This woman is a really good teacher and explains everything so well and in a straightforward manner with examples and big Chinese characters plus pronunciation.

It's kind of a slang I believe. The complete form of "我服了" are "我佩服了" or " "我服從了". They are literally "I admire and agree this" and "I obey this". The talker @nicholaswebber6694 want to express "He believe this sentence because he might have the similar experience >< I guess.... (I am sorry for that)

The movie clips are very helpful. At 2:50 she omitted the 在 in 现在, right? maybe you could make a video on that as well. Also heard it with 但 instead of 但是.
@GraceMandarinChinese4 жыл бұрын
President_of_MARS Actually she didn’t omitted the 在 in 现在. She just spoke very fast. 在 in her sentence is very light. But about “但是”, many people do say “但” only. :)
@korreyj4 жыл бұрын
question about the clip @ 2:50 the subtitles say "现在变成两个." but i feel like i clearly heard "现变两个." my question is when you first saw the clip did you hear "现在变成两个" , do you naturally fill in the blanks, or do you look at the subtitles to see exactly what was meant (fairly certain you have no need to check out the subtitles but figured I'd ask anyway). I've been looking at videos of contractions in mandarin recently and have found those very interesting. Not sure if you're looking for video ideas, but there you go hehe. great video as usual, thanks for these
@GraceMandarinChinese4 жыл бұрын
korreyj Hi! Haha the actress spoke very fast, but she did say “变成”. If you listen to it carefully, you will hear “biàn-eng”. There is a “eng” at the end, so we know that it is “变成”. Thank you for letting me know this from a learner’s perspective! I didn’t know this was so unclear :P And also thank you for the suggestion! :D

Very clear!' great! BUT those nouns are NOT direct objects--they are APPOSITIVE nouns, which are equivalent to other nouns, or PREDICATE nouns. which become or turn into something else. . Thank you for all your efforts. Xiexie,.doje, dochia, dosia, joisie etc Chinese dialects.
@jonathonsimon77704 жыл бұрын
What if he had said, "ni hui biancheng fuyu de ren" - I wonder if that would that have worked since its essentially referring to the subject noun turning into the object noun? Or still need "bian de"? Likewise, it got me thinking, what is really the best way to describe a SUCCESSFUL person, in Chinese - does success imply wealth?.
@menie48233 жыл бұрын
你会变成成功 means you will become success. Literally, you will become "the concept of success".

老师,我有一个问题! I would like to say "I want to become good at speaking Chinese", I guess I would have to use 变得, but I'm not sure about the order of the words in the sentence. My take is: 我要变得好说汉语/中文。 But I'm not sure it is correct. Could you or anyone who knows how to say that sentence correct me? Thank you very much!! 😊
Can anybody tell me what she meant when she said the subject becomes object
@martabagnoli12124 жыл бұрын
Usually you can split a sentence into the person/thing doing an action (the subject), the action they're doing (the verb), and the thing/person they're doing that action to (the object). So if you talked to a doctor, you (the subject) and the doctor (the object) are very separate, because the only thing connecting you and the doctor is the action of talking. Whereas if you became a doctor, the verb (becoming) means that the subject (you) and the object (a doctor) become the same thing at some point.

@kevinpan55254 жыл бұрын
I am native speaker, for my ear, there is no wrong sound, most of native speakers always speak so fast that non-native speaker can't hear correct pronounciation clearly, (actually, each person from China has their own accent, especially the Taiwanese accent in the video.)No matter what accent it is, you need to get used to the accents in case you don't understand the native speakers. As English native speakers do, they speak too fast to catch, my terrible ears on English Listening.
@QuizmasterLaw4 жыл бұрын
@@kevinpan5525 You will find British English easier to understand than American English. You will also find American English easier to pronounce correctly as compared to British English. Listen like an Englishman, speak like an American. I've a fair amount of experience teaching ESL.

2:51 she definitely says "xian bian liang ge" not "xian zai bian cheng liang ge" wtf Not the best example due to bad local accent and no match between what is said and what is written as subtitle And it's the central teaching point. Maybe bian or bian cheng are both good there but how would we non native speakers know? We don't! That's why we're here! 2:51

Ann Onymous She spoke very fast, but she did say “xian zai bian cheng liang ge”. You can try to slow the speed of the video to listen to it:) And btw the actress was from Wuhan and was studying in Beijing. (Some background for her accent)

@@GraceMandarinChinese 没门儿。他说过现变两个。我听了清楚,听几次。:) I'm not saying the actress is speaking wrongly, people drop words in Chinese more often than in other languages, but people in all languages sometimes omit obvious words for whatever reason.
