in this tutorial, I'll show you How to Create Gradient Long Shadows Text Effect. This text effect actually is done in Illustrator, but I use Photoshop to add some nice texture and colors to the texts.

it is gradient pack for photographic toning, it is available by default in photoshop. if you don't see it try going into the gradient editor then click on the gear icon

When I add a gradient map, it just applies a gradient to the entire canvas as opposed to the text like yours does in the video. For the life of me I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong.

In my video the gradien map also applied to the entire canvas, but my bg is bright color so it's look like the gradient map just applied to the text.

not sure why you are using photoshop to add grain when you can do the same thing right in illustrator by going to Effect > Texture > Grain
