D Rose's value comes from being able to mentor a guy he gets compared to a lot in Ja Morant in terms of play style, he'll be able to help Ja both on and especially OFF the court as others have described him as a great vet and teammate. I believe this is the perfect mentorship opportunity that Memphis could've gotten.

The second year on that large Bruce Brown deal is actually a team option. Indiana might have been angling to hit the salary floor (which is 90 per cent under the new CBA) while adding some value that can be traded in a big deal like you said.

That's a "better" FVV grade than I would expect, given his production for the year. Maybe he looks better under Udoka, who knows, but I'm not in love with the FVV / Jalen Green backcourt chemistry. I'm curious to see how much playing time Amen Thompson will get for the team.

Cam Johnson isn’t an over pay in the slightest, the two most valuable type of players in the league rn are young healthy shooter playmakers, and three and d small forwards, I’d rather have cam then 90% percent of the league, not because he’s better then 90% but because he is the perfect role player. After the nuggets won this year the blue print for a chip is clear: three and d players, athletic bigs, and a play maker as your star, so cam is invaluable

FVV is a culture setter who will space the floor for guys like Jalen, Jabari alongside sengun. What we needed was a solid vet who can pass and knock down some 3s. The reason the contract makes sense for us is we’ll be able to extend Jalen/Sengun after 2 years and decline the team option.

Man that JRich A+ took me back. You, along with us Heat fans, were one of the only people who believed in the player he could become. It ultimately didn’t happen, things could’ve been different if he never got traded but we will never know. Nevertheless, he was damn good in his last year with Miami and should be even better now that he isn’t expected to be one of the main options on offense

I liked most of what you said, but the D-Rose signing is an A+, the Grant signing is an F, maybe a D. Rose is the only person in the world who understands what it’s like to be Ja Morant. He needs a mentor, not only for his off court behavior, but learning how to mitigate injury risk from the guy who is the prime of example of the injuries we’re hoping Ja can avoid. Also, Jerami Grant is already, without having played a minute since being extended, one of the worst contracts in the NBA that would probably take draft assets to get rid of

As a blazers fan I actually really don't mind the Grant contract. I would rate it a B. We're not in a win now mode so overpaying isn't as bad, and it can be used to fill cap space in the event of a trade. Also who really knows how the salary cap will jump. I'm 2016 a whole lot of players were extremely overpaid because the salary cap ballooned by so much.
