This gymnastics you just played around the Mavs defense is pretty weird. They didn't go from a bad defense to a pretty good defense, they didn't go from bad to "good at the end of the season"... They went from bad to absolutely elite since the trades. As much as people like to deny it, Luka and Kyrie were part of that, and losing Jones Jr. alone is not going to turn the Mavs into defensive scrubs, especially since Grimes and Naji ARE defensive minded players

Usually when ppl talk about Dallas "defense" you can tell they're pretty casual or don't watch Mavs games. Upgrading from unplayable THJ to Klay's shooting and spacing and adding Naji and Grimes to replace DJJ and Green who is at minimum equal on defense.. guess that's a bad offseason somehow? 😂 Mavs addressed an area of need in the finals lol
@FinneganMurray-pb2ej6 ай бұрын
They got better, but they aren’t contenders. People talk about the Celtics having an easy run, the Mavs run wasn’t exactly death row. They need more to compete with a far better OKC, Denver who got worse but the Mavs still can’t guard, and possibly the Twolves, maybe not.

@@FinneganMurray-pb2ejCeltics had a league leading offensive rating of 123 in the regular season. Dallas held them to an offense of 106.8... From the Kings, the DeRozan trade is a great fit. Swapping DeRozan for Barnes is great offensively and helps the frequent issue of blown leads and offensive stagnation by adding another bucket to the team. Defensively, I feel that HB is a bit overrated; most of the season he was essentially a traffic cone on defense and I really doubt DeRozan will be worse on defense. Offensively, big upgrade; defensively, lateral move. When it comes to our starting five, Monk will not be starting. It’s most likely gonna look like De’Aaron Fox/Keon Ellis/DeMar DeRozan/Keegan Murray/Domantas Sabonis. Defensively this is a drastically better lineup than it’s given credit for. Keon Ellis starting is absolutely a defensive needle mover. Last year, post Huerter/Monk injuries, Ellis started and during that stretch we were a top 10 defensive rating, near top 5, in the entire NBA. Ellis is an elite guard defender who is very long for his height and plays very high IQ defense. His advanced metrics on D are amongst the best in the league. As a defender, he raises our ceiling whenever he’s on the floor and elevates the rest of our lineup. Fox was the steals champion last season and was a very good guard and wing defender when anchored with Ellis. Murray also took a massive leap defensively and has been shown to be able to guard 1-4 on the perimeter and interior very proficiently. Sabonis gets a lot of shit for being a poor rim protector, but is a somewhat underrated defender as a whole; he can’t really rim protect, but he is still a decent defender with a lot of hustle. DeRozan is not a good defender, but neither was HB and by pairing another scorer with Fox and Murray will allow them to allocate more energy defensively. This move does not make us a contender, but it is a big step in that direction. Examining our roster as a whole, the offensive depth is great and the defensive depth is still something to improve. However, it will not be a bad defense like the narrative surrounding the Kings seems to be. Fox, Monk, and DeRozan can all lead and offense and are absolute buckets. Domas as an offensive generator is one of the best in the league and is the reigning double double and rebounding champion. Ellis, Huerter, Murray, Lyles, and (when he returns) Devin Carter can all spread the floor and Ellis and Carter will play bare minimum good wing defense. Lyles and Len are both solid interior defenders and Len provides some rim protection, even if that is still a big weakness for this team
@psyhki20056 ай бұрын
When Ellis started (a 22 game sample size, 15 of those games against playoff teams) the Kings defence ranked 3rd in the NBA. The lack of a reliable secondary ball handler / scorer when Monk went down is what killed the Kings playoff chances down the stretch and DeRozan fixes that.

I think the “big 3” theory is still a good one, it’s just a matter of how well those players fit, and how many different aspects of the game they cover. Like you guys mentioned, Phoenix was the opposite of a perfect fit, I think PG/SF/C is the best positions you could have a big 3 at. You can bring in anybody who can play defense to play SG and shoot open 3s, and your PF can be flexed around based on match ups. If you wanna go small, you start Oubre Jr. for the extra scoring, if you wanna go big you can. The depth they needed was at the center position, and they got that with Drummond. Considering what their team looked like after trading Harden for nothing, Philly fans have to be happy about the moves they’ve made. Obviously health will probably be the factor that will make or break this team. If Maxey, Embiid, and PG all stay healthy the entire season, I could see them ending up in the conference finals against the Knicks or the Celtics.

Man I’m not gonna lie I usually watch yall but boy yall have some really bad takes starting with the scoot and miller thing (not sure why yall though scoot is better) saying the kings are bad now even though they are better than before even though they won’t win it all they definitely upgrade, im a mavs fan and my god you guys are incredibly casual when it comes to our team even from last season yall barely thought we could make it to the finals then we did which somehow you didn’t see then to say we are gonna be bad defensively is honestly hilarious look at the mavs team in 2022 tell me who on that team was so good defensively cause we still made the wcf and lost to the champs and to say losing DJJ and green is this huge lose shows yall don’t watch games at all cause green was great I loved him but grimes is a good replacement DJJ is not this defender yall keep talking about the guy played great but people were still scoring +20 and +30 on us so im not sure who was he stopping he couldn’t shoot worth a damn and we sign players who can shoot and yall don’t even bring them up man when the season start and yall eventually make a video saying how good the mavs are and how you didn’t see it coming please for the love god pay attention to the team man

Phillie will be good in the regular season, but they won’t do much in the playoffs. Kings didn’t do enough, I see 6th seed. Mavs, same thing. Honestly, these finals will be OKC vs Boston, no question.

I'm not too optimistic about the Spurs making the playoffs this Coming season, maybe, maybe not but I think acquiring Chris Paul will do wonders for Wemby's development

The contract they offered PG would have put them in the second apron regardless.

The Lakers really missed out on Klay and Demar and all they got is a nepo baby drafted in the late second round.

A duo known for getting hurt and severely underperforming in the playoffs. Job well done Philly.

1:42 Holy shit thank you! Kawhi gets injured so much more often than PG and Paul carried them to the WCF furthest they Ever got in their history while Kawhi was in the owners box watching and almost every year since he it happens again in the playoffs. Ballmer is rich af why not pay the guy who plays more???🤔🤔🤔

This makes me wonder if the Bucks should’ve kept Holiday and just went after CP3 instead of getting Dame
@urbaindelva78696 ай бұрын
Imo, they should've kept Holiday and just replaced Coach Bud. His coaching was more to blame imo.

Kings has a 3 pointer problem Fox is a slasher Sabonis is a mid and post player Derozan is a Mid range player If not for keegan murray the 3 pointers will be horrible

The problem with modern "Big 3s" is that they have all been poor fits. Kyrie, KD and Harden weren't a good fit since all 3 are score first players who at some degree needs the ball in their hand more than not especially Harden and a more immature Kyrie. The Suns big 3 are a TERRIBLE fit. Even to a smaller degree look at the poor fit of the Zion, Ingram, CJ 3. The Sixers big 3 are now a perfect fit of a Guard, Wing, Big. The biggest problem with the Sixers 3 is pretty obviously health.

this offseason is going to go down as one of the most inconsequential of all time. PG to 76ers? 2nd round exit. Mid. Klay to Mavs? Washed Vet that helps them shoot above the arc and nothing else is Mid. Mikal Bridges to NYK? Decent? Probably best move in the whole off season and its an overpay. Murray to NOLA? Doesn't fix Zion and Ingram not playing in the post season so Mid. Great 2k team tho! Derozan to the Kings? Great move great fit... except the west is stacked and this makes them a 4th seed second round exit at best. CP3 to SA? Wemby development go brrr.
@chrisuncleahmad7896 ай бұрын
The West is not stacked. Again, a 5 seed made the Finals
@pacdaman155576 ай бұрын
@@chrisuncleahmad789 A 5th seed that had 50 wins (good for the 2nd seed in the east) beat 3 50+ win teams (all of which would be the 2nd seed in the east) in route to the finals. Sounds pretty deep to me.

Wait, how do you figure PG is more valuable that Kawhi? Kawhi is a year younger and more accomplished.
@emilfrederiksen.16225 ай бұрын
Because Kawhi is always injured. He has not had a healthy playoff run since 2019.
