I love the fake parallax scrolling in the beginning of the last level. Also, an abandoned Big Core MK II can be seen in Stage 4.

Whoever made this, this is an amazing hack. They even managed to add Death Mk-II in after the Big Eye boss!

This has to be some of the best NES programming I've ever seen. Like, the flares that come off the "sun" at 2:16, and the parallax scrolling at 22:42... not even the 16-bit PC-Engine version has that.

+ballandpaddle At 22:42 I sure as hope the PCE version wouldn't have that; large black square transition areas where the fake parallax doesn't jive or the large gap in between with just solid black tiles after destroying the web stuff. They meant well in the hack, it comes off as gaudy and broken.

I'm 7 years late to the party, but blame Nintendo of America. They had some weird policy back in the day that didn't allow 3rd-party developers to program games with their own esoteric mapper chips, like Gradius II. Case in point: Konami used the VRC4 chip for this game and NoA thought it would cost too much to import. That, and they had another weird policy that 3rd-party developers could only put out 5 games per year for the NES, so Konami got clever and gave us Ultra Games. Sadly, America STILL never got Gradius II, which is BS, because I would play this joint my damn self! Looks spectacular 😊

The sprite-flickering in this game is off-the-charts! This is one of those games that's better played on an emulator, some emulators have tools to minimize and in some cases even completely eliminate the sprite flickering... Still this is a great game, and a great version of Gradius II! But I honestly prefer the PC engine CD version, but that's just me...

Indeed, the new puNES emulator is much better than original hardware. It's a cycle accurate emulator with the added features like unlimited Sprites and OC.
