Become a graffiti bomber for a month. I guarantee you'll walk down a city street with a completely different perspective in that short bit of time. Aside from being a soldier, gang member or drug addict, I can't think of one other thing that teaches you how to constantly scan and read a street or any other environment. That's a valuable skill. Enter into the middle of the food chain for a while and you quickly learn how to identify urban predators. When I was old enough to get to the bus stop on my own, my mother told me to keep my head down and never make eye contact. That's a great way to get around the city if you like being robbed. By the time I was 16, I always looked forward, scanned everyone from the next block over and slowed my walk a bit from a rush to a purposeful stride. I don't understand how trigonometry is more valuable than learning how to walk down a street without a figurative "kick me" sign on your back. It really should be a class in all public schools.

Because education is all about tests and scores? Education about life experiences and social involvement is way more important than just passing tests. I am a teacher btw. A very disciplined and serious one at that. I value formal education but I also give my students life insights.
