I’m not an Iowa fan by any means. But I have major respect for their tradition to let the kids at the hospital know that they support them and are there with them. Major respect to the Hawkeyes ❤

It's actually a fairly recent tradition. The Stead Family Children's Hospital opened in 2017. A little remembered fact: The original plans for the pediatric hospital included the demolition of Kinnick Stadium (which had recently undergone an extensive renovation) and building a new stadium off campus. The student body, alumni and donors revolted and UIHC was forced to scale back the plans. Instead they demolished an old parking structure.

NOTE : Unlike European soccer games [especially the English ones], violence at college football games in the US is virtually unknown. This is a quote from an article published by Arizona State University : [Open Quote] Violence at these events is rare in North America compared with European countries, particularly when compared with violence at soccer matches in Britain, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium. 4 Problems with "football hooligans" in Britain are so widespread that violence occurring at events elsewhere has been labeled the "spread of the English Disease." [End Quote]

Plan your trip carefully. College football starts at the end of August normally. Since you're talking about going to Texas. The Texas State Fair is September 27th. That usually coincides with the Texas vs Oklahoma football. So you can get some college football and the Texas state fair in the same weekend.

I went to the UT vs. OU game at the fairgrounds one time. Amazing experience. Though, the Cotton Bowl stadium was uncomfortable in terms of seating. But that was over 20 years ago, so maybe they’ve renovated.

1:53 - I was at that game between Tennessee and Oklahoma. That stadium of over 102,000 people set the decibel record in the stadium that night. You couldn't hear yourself think, and the entire stadium had your body vibrating. If you're planning to come in October, I highly recommend you try to get tickets to the Tennessee/Alabama game. It's an intense rivalry that has been going on for a century, and this year promises to be one of the more important games in recent history. If you want a taste of what's possible, look up the 2022 game and the aftermath. The tickets will be expensive, but you will never forget a night in Neyland Stadium like that. The crowd will be nuts, and the stakes are likely to be high for both teams midway through the season.

The college games, comprising 12 regular season games, start early September and run through November and then the "Bowl" or Championship games begin and run through December with a few games on New Years Day. College is a lot more fun than professional and most of the stadiums do sell beer.

You should do a video on the largest American college football stadiums. Eight of the ten largest stadiums in the world are American college football stadiums, seating more than 100,000 people - and they fill up. The White Out game gets more than 110,000 people in attendance. When they jump to “Jump Around,” it creates a small earthquake in the area. Many of our college football stadiums are bigger than other countries’ national stadiums, Olympic stadiums, and even the NFL (professional) stadiums. Our high school sports teams get big crowds, especially football.

The biggest college football stadiums are bigger than the professional teams' stadiums. College football in the U.S. is older than the pro game, so the traditions go back much longer. Also, only the larger cities have professional teams, but big universities all over the country have teams, even in rural areas, so the college game is much more widespread. The major college conferences have huge broadcasting contracts and apparel deals, etc. People tend to be more loyal to their universities than to their city teams in many cases. This is especially true across the South and much of the Midwest.

If you're traveling in Texas on the weekend during football season you do want to pay attention to college football schedules. A home game with even a moderate sized school will create heavy traffic, hotel room shortages, parking problems and long lines at popular bars and restaurants. High school and college football is a religion down here. Seeing a Texas A&M game is an experience. Some years ago, my folks were visiting from back east and wanted to go to a museum in College Station during an Aggie game. I didn't think Bryan/College Station could have that much traffic. We were there the night before. There were acres of RV parking, filled to the rim. I think every Aggie with a heartbeat -- and a bunch that didn't have one -- were deep in pre-game partying. I drove halfway through the town, following an A&M flag draped RV towing a 10 ft long smoker and a big pile of mesquite. The Aggie's have more rituals than just about any other school in the US. And you fail to respect these at your own risk. (In the interest of fair disclosure, I got one of my degrees at a school whose marching band was taken hostage by Aggie fans.)

The only thing better at an NFL game is really the tailgating. Even teams not doing that well have great tailgating party. College games do everything else better. And it is good talent & game play. You would also be surprised about high school level games. About Leah's age & older.

Luv you guys. Perspective. There are thousands of college teams across our wonderful country that play at the same time every Saturday. Every stadium is jammed packed and rocking. Millions and millions are in the stadiums....10x are watching local or cable tv broadcast of their games. Football, basketball, and college hockey are huge in America. Add every NFL attendance with NHL attendance with MLB attendance and college athletics attendance dwarfs it. Mighican wolverines and Ohio state combined hold a quarter of a million people in attendance every Saturday. Think about that.

Don’t forget if you guys come to the states during college football season and plan on a game. Get to the game really early bc the tailgating experience is half of the enjoyment! You will meet so many great people eager to invite you in enjoy good food and a good time. We’d love to have you in Athens on a Saturday! Go Dawgs!!!

It’s so much fun at the games. There’s a lot of foreign students going to school here in the states I’m not sure they contact for info but I’ve seen where some programs get the foreign students into schools and places to live while they’re going to schools in the states.

Yeah home games are fun! The whole point is to be as loud as possible when the opponent is on offense to disrupt them. At Baylor, we put the student section on the visitors side, with the freshman in the very front since they're the most excited. That's why everyone says its embarrassing to lose at home since it's a huge advantage.

there are even good crowds for youth baseball in the U.S., check out the Little League World series crowds, and the games are really fun to watch on T.V., they are carried by the major networks.

The students in military-looking attire on the field are usually our college ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps.) Students who want to join the military get trained as Cadets while going to school, then once they graduate college, they become officers in our military. If they are wearing similar type attire, but are holding instruments, they are likely the school band. Some can be both!

In the SouthEast (SEC) football is almost like a religion. I have been a UGA Dawg fan since attending my first game in 1985.Went to every home game for the next 11 years. Got to experience many other schools football Saturdays. It really is something to be a part of .If you attend a game at the rivals school they still treat you with kindness and you will not go hungry GO DAWGS SIC EM Augusta GA

In the State Of Georgia our Dawgs always draw huge crowds. Even all those years we did not win a National Championship The tail gating is something to behold. Oh and our mascot is a real life Bulldog from Sonny Seiler's family in Savannah Georgia.
