Vince Young reflects on what he would change from his NFL career and his rift with coach Jeff Fisher, but says it would take guaranteed money him to ever consider a NFL comeback.

James Allen damn! That’s some longevity for a mediocre .509 guy. He’s like 2.5 Jay Cutlers. He must have some other skills to have been kept around for so long?
@jamesallen55914 жыл бұрын
@@cb-tz8og I think he's one of those guys whose ceiling is mediocrity. A crap team would hire him, he would take it to a middle-of-the-pack team and start winning some games. But his teams (very rarely) went beyond that; they flat-lined. So, he would be mediocre for a few years, racking up winning season after winning season but without playoff results, and then he'd get fired, and start over again.

The only reason Fisher coached as long as he did was because of all his friendships with the owners and the commissioner. The dude was always an average coach who ran Eddie George into the ground. He lived off that one Super Bowl appearance that talk a miracle to get out of the first round.

As a Titans fan, I'm still a huge Vince Young fan and loved watching him play. Too bad things ended the way they did and certainly prematurely, but there are still a few very memorable moments from VY. Years after he retired, my brother met him in Texas and said he was the nicest guy.

Vince made two Pro Bowls and was an Offensive Rookie of the Year. Not a bad career. Fischer was an awful coach. Whose offensive philosphy cost many of his teams. He was just lucky enough to be endowed with a slew of great draft picks who turned into all pros. When that group was gone he couldn't take a team to the playoffs to save his life. He ruined every qb he coached. How many years did McNair get beat up because of his limited offensive strategies.

Its simple. The truly great ones have something Vince didn't have, character and humility. When you think you're all that, you're ready for a fall. In truth, many QB's have this problem, its a product of personal achievement and it can either breed arrogance or it can strengthen humility. Vince was a great player, no question but the story is written and for all his talk, he bares an equal part in that story. Rather than being a story of personal triumph, overcoming the weight of his own ego it is instead a cautionary tale or what NOT to do when handed such a huge blessing. Stay within yourself, stay focused on the BIGGER goals and rid yourself of selfishness.

@TheCountofToulouse4 жыл бұрын
@Roderick Harper Fisher is a whole other story, I'm no fan of him either BUUUUT, Fisher also didn't WANT to pick Young specifically BECAUSE he heard about the guys personal life and his attitude towards the choices he made. In short, Fisher was not impressed with Youngs character. They were going to clash no matter what. A marriage has to be mutual and this pick was forced on Fisher by the owner of the Titans, it was doomed in any case. Young didn't excel once Fisher left, either. Nor did he, as other QB's have, excel with another team, Steve Young, Jim Plunkett, Randal Cunningham, Kurt Warner...the list goes on and on of QB's that had the character to continue on and thrive elsewhere. This video is about Young, not Fisher. Again the story is over. He had some flash in the pan moments but he never really achieved anything of note or at least nothing that anyone holds dear in memory. There are COUNTLESS stories of Youngs ill advised decisions and the consequences, of course he's going to defend himself or simply deflect to save face, I get it but that's also why he never did anything, he can't swallow it, he has to project and posture and make a scene.
@TheCountofToulouse4 жыл бұрын
@Roderick Harper Young KNEW he wasn't starting in either of those cases, he knew what he was getting into, an easy paycheck backing up a solid starter.

The NFL is so full of themselves, they don't even know how to get out of their own way. Vince Young, like a few others are superior talents in many way, but were largely, mishandled by desperate, unwise, coaches and organizations who pander to the media. What Vince says is accurate. But, what he did not get is very very important. You have to deal with people where they are. And be wise enough to know how to play the game to get what you want. The coaches often don't know what they are doing: WHY, because MOST of the got there via the old boy network and that is how this horrible system has been maintained over the years as they get off by wasting and mismanaging the very young talent that they were hired to develop.

Good quality 1-on-1 interview with Vince Young. I know we've all heard of Vince Young's legendary spending habits. And him going broke. But honestly, I felt that he did not receive a fair share of having the opportunity to utilize his skills like other quarterbacks. And yes, I totally understand many that criticized his QB flaws. But he was definitely not alone in that department. I mean, certain QBs like Kerry Collins, Mark Brunnell , Vinny Testaverde and many others clearly had QB flaws. Yet they were able to stay in the NFL for well over a decade. Vince Young for whatever reasons simply did not last long in the league over a blow-up with his head coach. I mean, c'mon!! Vince Young was definitely not the first sports athlete to lock horns with his head coach. Yet, he got screwed over badly. And Vince Young's mechanics were definitely not as bad as Tim Tebow. And despite that, I felt Tim Tebow at least deserved an opportunity too to play in the league. Too many QBs with the same skills and deficiencies were able to remain in the league. I guess the NFL has changed quite a bit. Even Matt Lienart, a horrible QB still remained in the league longer than Vince Young. I guess like Vince Young said, you must keep your mouth shut.

I finally figured it out Mister Vince Young, you was just too good, because I'm from Nashville so I watched your career and I saw you have a great rookie season and you had about to maybe 3 wishi-washi Seasons where I could see that you were learning. And you were at a peak when everything went sour, but with everything you had going, you could have been really great and I guess not to be prejudiced on my end, but those old white guys could see your greatness, and didn't want you to outshine a lot of the guys that are famous now. You could have been like Michael Jordan, but it's okay, keep living your life it hasn't been bad, many other men would trade their life for what you had and have. I like you hints keep doing good.

I disagree, Vince was a great player period. Jeff didn't want him as his QB. NFL is a business, so you re a coach help this spectacular football player advance. Let him take you to the Super Bowl like he could have. Men have a pride about them that shouldn't be rubbed the wrong way. This guy was a beast that wasn't allowed to be great. Not the first time.

Sam Bradford spent more time on the Injuries List than contributors list. Granted Bradford was a good potential player. But every Head Coach is two games away from the Unemployment Line of NFL Coaches. You can't piss around with a potential player. Players must put out and win games.

Big Ounce Yes, because that’s what gets you drafted to professional sports. That’s how players immediately sign endorsements deals and hire agents once they’re eligible. That’s why college stadiums are packed to see star players and colleges sell endless amounts of merchandise and high tv ratings. Even in college star athletes are building a brand and receive millions as soon as they turn pro.

I've been an Oiler/Titan fan since 1973, & I wanted VY to succeed so much. It boiled down to some poor game decisions/interceptions. This led to fans turning on him a bit with boos, etc. He couldn't handle it. Particularly the Jacksonville (?) game where he threw his shoulder pads into the crowd on the way out. smh Then he disappeared with his gun, sulking. He lost Fisher, and the fans for good, on that day. His career NEVER recovered.
