Grahame, very nice ink and wash! I loved your comment: “hold (or take a breath) and just go for it.” I never said that but have felt it for sure.

I must have watched this video 10x by now. Molly's Yard is my all time favorite tutorial. I have learned so much from it, and Grahame, you are such a great teacher.... Now if I could just muster up the courage to let go and go for it. I have everything I need, all my supplies, my brushes, my paper, even a subject... What is holding me back?? (I am editing my own comment after thinking about it... Someone once told me my brain is locked into "what I see". I love loose watercolor, and especially pen and wash...but I can't seem to lighten up and be free. How do I break away from all the details in my head?)
@PaintingWatercolour7 жыл бұрын
Well thank you Dee, I'm glad you are finding it useful. What you say is very common. I would suggest practising in a sketch book. This takes away the pressure to paint something that can be framed and if you use a book with decent cartridge paper you will need to apply the washes simply and wet without fiddling. (If you fiddle on cartridge paper you will make an awful mess!). The wash part of pen and wash needs to be done confidently - not confident that it will be good but the confidence that it doesn't matter if it is bad - after all, it really is only a piece of paper. Good Luck.

Yes, a sketch book. And I am going for it! Will let you know how it goes.

I DID IT. :-) I did a sketch, (still not loose enough... still trying to break free from what my busy mind sees..) but I did it, then watched Mollys Yard a few more times and finally got up the courage to add a few washes... My consistencies weren't great so I have small splotchy spots here and there but all told, I am happy most of all that I finally did it, and I am appreciating my first attempt for what it is....a first attempt. Thank you, Grahame. You are a great teacher.

Just saw your demo, lovely. Just wondering what ink or pen do you use? I have Pitt pens but they don't show up like yours.
@PaintingWatercolour9 жыл бұрын
+LilianaM Hi, I use Pitt pens too, medium but they do tend to dry out a bit. I also like to use a dip pen with indian ink but this isn't as travel friendly!

I searched the internet for your folding palette and it seems there's one guy in India who makes them at $290 US. Is that what you paid?
@PaintingWatercolour5 жыл бұрын
Hi Adrienne That's not a bad price actually. If you can send me the link I'll take a look at it. There is also some info at channeling-winslow-homer.com/2013/05/02/brass-watercolor-palettes-3-craftsmen-now-making-them/. Mine was the Craig Young but I have since sold it and now use one I made myself.

Lovely work Grahame! I think I prefer line and wash for my own painting, I think that's because I'm better at drawing than painting! Oh and ditch the background music, it's not necessary and is just a bit irritating!
