Hi ! thanks for your explanation. but I have a question . How do I know which verb tense should I use if in the normal sentence there's no axuliary verb ? I have to complete these exercises but are difficult for me to complete. No sooner (we/eat ) dinner than he got up and left. Only once( I /break) a promise in my whole life. Never before ( she / meet ) a more disagreeable man.

Great question, Lilia! If there is no auxiliary verb, then you assume that it is 'do'. So in your last example: 'Never before had she met a more disagreeable man.'

Almost, yes. It doesn't work in zero conditionals usually but most other ones are fine.
