Hi from NSW Australia. What a spectacular road. I was in the South Western States way back in 1993. This video shows me that I hadn't seen much of the SW USA at all although I did drive through Sedona and up to the Grand Canyon and through Monument Valley. Also the road up the mountain above Tucson.

Wow, I have booked a room in Grand Junction for my son and I a few days into our Wind Cave NP, Custer State Park, Badlands NP, Yellowstone, Tetons, to dinosaur to Rocky Mtn Nat'l park, back through Rocky Mtn NP to GJ, to Black Canyon, to gunnison, to mesa verde, to grand canyon north rim, zion, to death valley, to yosemite, to king's canyon, sequoia NP, then ending in Joshua Tree, unless of course we take a small detour into Saguaro west, which we love, and I must say, I'm looking so forward to this drive and photography op. Thanks so much for the incredible video. Wow. I can't wait. And it's perfect also, bc we're just meandering down to Gunnison on this day.

That road looks like it would have been extremely difficult to build. I have no idea how road engineers even begin to survey a route like that! Great video!
@AmericanRoads7 жыл бұрын
One feature of the road I particularly appreciate is its true "on-the-rim" location. Some other National Parks, like Grand Canyon or Canyonlands have their paved roads on the top of the canyon and at a safe distance from the rim. The Rim Rock Drive, however, is almost like hanging on the side of the cliff, which really makes the drive much more thrilling.

If I come in from the west will that keep me away from the edge? I"m fine on the other side of the road but have been on roads like this and the edge is a bit unnerving,especially with no guard rails.

@@AmericanRoads i watched it but was wondering if the drop off was on the same side the whole route. Wasnt sure if the video covered the whole route
@AmericanRoads3 жыл бұрын
@@manumuskin Oh, I see what you meant. Yes, the steep drop-off is always on the same side. Parts of the footage that I cut from the final production only had bushes on either side of the road, in other words, nothing interesting to see. Trust me, if the footage contained steep drop-off (whether on the left or right), I would surely include them in the final production. So, whatever you see in this episode is all the steep drop-off you can see along the road.

@AmericanRoads7 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, it took me about 3 hours to explore the park. If you are a bit pressed for time, at least try to do the Rim Rock Drive (without stopping along the vista points). The drive alone was quite a thrilling experience! And I am quite sure the "wifey cam" will do a great job capturing the stunning views below, especially if you are driving on the same direction like I was.
@KCWanderlust7 жыл бұрын
Fortunetly we'll be through the area on what might be the shortest day on the road during the trip (It's still gonna be 8 to 10 hours). Wolf Creek pass to Durango and up to GJ, then up to Steamboat. "That's a short day?" As my Wife says. 😀
@AmericanRoads7 жыл бұрын
Does your wife ever complain that you are driving too much during the road trips? Or maybe when you want to capture a footage of certain stretches of highway that require you to take a bit of detour?

All most all roads in CO are like driving on the edge. I returned back from trail ridge road because I have fear of heights. But CO is the most beautiful part of US. I don't think I will drive on this road on the cliff. Your videos are helping me to see those cliff hanging roads of CO.

Let me share a picture of my camera setup: facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153798879537634&l=fb07b1e7bb Are you able to see it? It is a camcorder on a tripod set between the driver's and the passenger's seat, and secured with a bungee cord. And then, one more critical element that must not be missed if you want a clean and glare-free footage: a non-reflective black cloth on the dashboard. My black cloth is actually a black curtain.
