No auto tune. No remix. No sampling. Just three talented guys playing their hearts out. And it is pure fire! When they played Shea Stadium in 1971, they sold out the place in three hours. It took The Beatles three weeks to accomplish that feat.

Ohhh,,, the Guys who survived Vietnam, to call themselves Vets, sure loved GFR. My half brother came back in 72, and the first thing he did was made a copy for me on 8Track to grow up on. I can remember many times coming home to have him just blasting the Railroad on full volume, to Just Feel Alright, as if from the Inside Looking Out. GOD Bless all those who Lived, and Died in Service... THANK YOU More great GFR songs, Feeling Alright, Im Your Captian/Closer to my Home, I Can Feel Him in the Morning, Mean Mistreater, Heartbreaker. and the list keeps going on and on.

Two things stand out in this video. One, the drummer, Don Brewer really puts his all into playing those drums. He's non-stop for 10 minutes straight. That's quite a workout. What really gets me is the audience here. They are seeing one of the greatest live performances ever and they're just sitting there. How are they not up dancing all over the place? Amazing performance by everyone.

When I was 16, I wanted to see them play in Dayton, Ohio. My dad insisted on going with me. Our seats were way up practically in the rafters of the auditorium. The smoke from the reefer wafted up from below throughout the concert. Though it only took us 35 minutes to get to the concert, it took us 2 hours to find our way back home.

In the previous version of this song by Eric Burdon & The Animals, the lyric was '' Rebirth" not "Reefer" (I've also seen Reaper, which makes even less sense.) Also the word Nickle Bag was changed from Burlap Bag. This song was based on an old prison work song called "Rosie."

They sold out Shea stadium faster than the Beatles did. If look at Mark Farner's guitar 🎸, he stuffed the holes with foam and covered with masking tape then painted it pysodelic because he didn't like the feedback he was hearing. They broke up, but Don (bassist), and Don Brewer still tour under Grand Funk Railroad. Mark tours with his own band Mark Farner's American Band. They were 21, 22 years old when this video was recorded.

Notice Mark Farner's guitar which was a Musicraft Messenger guitar which was ahead of it's time with an aluminum neck, stereo outputs and a special fuzz circuit that gave it a special sound. It was a hollow body electric guitar which Mark stuffed with foam rubber and taped over the front openings with masking tape to reduce feedback since he played so loud. In the viedeo you can clearly see the masking tape on the front.
