This is positively lovely! It takes such love and respect of history to do a project like this justice. ❤❤❤

How could they have thought they could fix up 400yr old house of that size and update it for 70,000? After seeing hand built blown glass custom milled oak window (~3k) I know the 70,000 was bunk. These people have plenty of money. I guess it's like in America with House Hunters. "Hi I'm Jeremy. I'm a 28yr old butterfly hunter and my wife Milley 28, is makes quilts for wild raccoons. Our budget is $1.5mil"

Only fans foot group? Can you imagine doing the taxes? Yes, I sold oil at the farmers market, and did online work for a luxury bath…the money is in the house now!

I find it amazing that, although people are willing to invest their money, love, care and attention into a project like this, the Listed Building renovation requirements are so restrictive and expensive that it blows the planned budget to kingdom come. What would have happened if the building had just collapsed....

Nice home restored very well. The sad part of course is that just three years later, the banking crises hit hard and left many couples under terrible stress and financial dire straits. While I'm sure its worth a tidy sum of money, I'd wager it isn't what it was worth in 2007, before the banking crises.

Shame they broke up. Louise opened it with Nicola as a cookery school. The stress of a gigantic mortgage must have been hard to live with.

Yeah the audio has some issue…but as to the episode itself it’s amazing to think this ended up costing them 800k back in 2005 when they thought they could do it for ten times less. If they managed a gigantic mortgage they obviously were “good for it”!Wonder what it worth now?

You know, I'm not saying I blame them, ppl like them or that id do anything different, however for ppl who watch this show (or any of the many like this) regularly there can be no question why our economics crashed the way they did. I've never seen someone stick to a budget & it's rare to see anyone bothered by the debt. Its the same in America. Everyone here wants to blame social.programs except its not the food program we should worry about but the fdic

In what world was a £70,000 budget going to be enough to renovate a 400 y/o house, especially when it's listed?? Goes to show even if you're a city professional you can definitely have a deficit of common sense.

its so funny that the most dated thing in this 400 year old house is the '21st century' modern technology... all of it is obsolete in 2024.

I'm shocked that they spent so much money (they won't say the total?) on a fantasy. The low ceilings are claustrophobic. The bug damaged beams are creepy. How to heat the rooms with high ceilings? Nothing homey about this wonky museum. So sad.

They did say how much in the end. It was 400,000 something for the house and 350,000 for the reno.

For being professional people they made a big expensive mistake buying this house. I dont think so much of it ! Its not all that attractive as an antique home. A lot of money invested for not a lot of character. It is more or less a modernish home. They could of kept their money and bought a new home that looked old. Thats what happens when you have more money than sense . im sure they regret their decisions now that they are older and hopefully wiser!! Also it wasnt up to par in the way it was decorated. It was tacky as far as the decorations went. Probably all their electronics are broken by now and they probably arent even together anymore sorry to say!! Oh well!!

I'm in total agreement with you, Susan. Though I deeply wish that they are in a deep loving story, between them and with the ancient house. That's the reality of life, nothing is permanent and nothing is consistent!

Such a joke selling bottles of flavored oil at the market! She could have made ten times that if she went back lawyering and let the husband help out with the odd jobs. Come to think of it, his solicitor’s income would have been a lot more than what he would have paid for the unskilled labor to do what he was doing. They must have had a trust fund or something…..
