I could mention the mess-up but instead I'm going to say that I completely forgot that ringing the bell was akin to sending ancestor's souls on their way which means that the desperation Wiper and the others had was even more understandable since Calgara died after the last ringing of the bell - every Shandorian who had died between the arrival in the sky were considered to be trapped souls to their descendants and could not move on after their deaths. The relevance of ringing that bell meant that Luffy set free all those trapped souls - yet another act of liberation.

I always thought Garp looked like kind of tribal with his darker skin color. It wasnt just a tan either because he retained it after the timeskip and was seen with it even as a young man. Dragon looks like a more buffed version of Wiper from Shandia. He also has a face tattoo similar to Dragon. I believe Oda mentioned Luffy would be brazilian if he was from earth.

I am a religious studies graduate and every time the concept of Gods is brought up in One Piece I am thinking about Thomas Hobbes and his book “Leviathan”. Leviathan is the name of a sea monster in the bible, usually depicted as a giant serpent, which is slain by the biblical God. According to Hobbes, the Leviathan represents the quasi divine rulers of ancient, pre-Christian and pre-Jewish societies, like the Pharaoh. Hobbes advocated for absolute monarchy and considered these societies to be examples of states, in which the sovereign is a divine, unrestricted ruler and religion and state are completely intertwined, with the religion being directly linked to the sovereign. Hobbes believed that Judaism started a trend which depraved the king of his divinity, making the cosmic, monotheistic God the “true” sovereign. It was now the God of the Israelites establishing all the laws and even the king, while still considered vicegerent of God, had to obey them. In One Piece, divinity and Gods (especially bad gods) are often depicted as despotic sovereigns. And many religions depicted are cults of an aristocracy and a “divine” monarch. Most notable, Imu and the Celestial Dragons, but also Enel. The positive “Gods”, however, are deities of rebellion and liberation and slayers of false Gods, like Kalgara and Nika. Nka is specifically introduced as a deity popular among slaves, and the God of the Bible freed the Israelites from the slavery of the Pharaoh. It could be a coincidence, but it is interesting nonetheless.

If Luffy is a descendant of the Shandorians, or potentially even a Chief of Shandia, Water 7 could be an interesting mirror to the end of the Noland flashback (hear me out) A major theory is that Usopp is a descendant of Liar Noland, who cried when he saw Shandia gone, knowing he may never see his friend again. If Luffy is a descendant of a Shandorian Chief (let’s just even say Calgara for funs) - Usopp crying and apologizing before joining the crew on the Thousand Sunny would be Noland’s descendant finally reuniting with Calgara’s in the same way he never got to in the past. Usopp, Noland’s descendant, was able to make it back to Luffy, Calgara’s descendant, in a way their ancestors failed to.

I just I was rewatching Engels cover story earlier to try and figure out some clues. One of the interesting things I thought of is that the moon people in the glyphs on the walls had bigger wings than that of the sky people, assuming then that they were lunarians and perhaps sky people are descended distantly from lunarians and are mixed with human races. Given some of the sky folks don’t have wings it’s possible to assume that some humans on earth have lunarians blood and are just descendants which would explain alot of Luffy was.

I think you could argue that the reason all of their gods have no wings is that because, similar to how we wingless people see angels with wings as above us, they see people without wings (because they were born with them) to be above them. Alternatively their original god may not have had any wings and been from the ground, aka the sun god or joy boy?

Something to add is that dragons tatoo can be seen on the tail of the Amaru, said to bring strong winds which mainly derived from andean mythology. This amaru can also be called a serpent or dragon. Also Enels final “buddah” looking attack was named 200 million volt amaru. The amaru can be seen emerging from a central element in the center of a stepped mountain or pyramid motif in the Gateway of the Sun. And alabaster came before the Skypia saga

Ok now that you mention Oda was supposed to wrapped up later after the end of Skypiea. Now, it makes so much sense why Skypiea become more and more relevant now we are on the last Saga. And it is because as Sky Island was supposed to be the final preparation before he can start the end saga of OP. When he thought he could be needing to end the series at that time. If this revealed later to be true and Monkey family is Shandian, that would blast-off the Skypiea arc set-up into oblivion. That will be much more poetic af. Remember when it was revealed Luffy's fruit is Nika the Sun God, and everyone look at Skypiea again when people are praying to be saved by god and Luffy basically answered them by ringing the bell. It will happen a second time when this theory appears to be true. We will look back again into the whole Skypiea saga in a new light. 😂 Reading on Skypiea Luffy defeating Enel: 1st read - a monkey defeating A self proclaim god, fulfilling his promise to the monkeys in Jaya and Cricket. Poetic. 2nd re-read - Real sun god defeating self proclaim god. Extra cool and poetic af. 3rd reread - Calgara's descendant fulfilling their promise to light of Shandora and beating down a god to save his people just like how Calgara defeat the snake god to save his nation from death plague.
