A few more inconsistency or weird stuff: - When Nami falls on the cats, it makes a "ba-yoing" sound. As if she fall one a balloon or something. - Usopp says, that the cat can't hurt them, since it may be a illusion, after Nami brought up the Absinth. BUT Usopp was already in the mouth of the cat, so he should know, that this isn't true. - Nami holds Usopp up surprisedly easy above her head. Moving him from the ground over her head. - Sanji doesn't have any hearts in his eyes or speech bubble or an over the top reaction, when he talks to Nami after saving her. - That the sword on Luffy's back turns into a stick between panels, is actually underlined before and after with some lines, so that we pay attention.

My thoughts on this are that Loki is basically playing with the straw hats like action figures. If Loki is still relatively a child by giant standards, maybe he has ahold of the straw hats and is playing with them. He constantly switches out their gear and changes the story, gets moves wrong, etc., because he's a child and might not know better. And it's all being hidden by Loki having some trickster devil fruit.

I recomend looking up OSP's videos on Utgard loki, and Loki. The first may have clues since it does fit the whole vibe of being uncertain of what is really happening, that whole adventure has tons of illusions, and the sort of fairy tale nonsense of interacting with things you shouldn't be able too (Utgard challenges thor and co and all the challengers are more than they appear) and as the Loki video points out, we don't actually know what Loki is the god off, and it may be more of a generic trickster title (maybe entangler?). Their norse mythology videos in general are probably a good watch since we likely will see many references to such in Elbaf.

I've gotten to the point that I read One Piece and I'll get to a point that I don't know wtf is going on, but I just move on. I mean, it will either be explained in the chapter or "man on the internet" will explain the reference or hidden meaning from 1000 chapters ago. Only One Piece Channel worth following in my opinion. It is worth mentioning the thing that contradicts the theory in that there are other non crew bystanders in the chapter. They can’t be hallucinations of the crew since they aren’t even there. I don’t think this disproves the theory but it must be a hint at some other element of the truth. Either “Loki” has other prisoners or thrrr are people outside the illusion, but either way it hints at some real physical things are happening and it is not just all inside someone’s head

Oda told me Chopper has a cold. Oda told me Chopper is overwhelmed by smells, and has learned to tune them out for his own sanity. Oda told me that deserts enhanced his nose. Oda told me water diminishes his sense of smell. Oda told me Chopper had a traumatic injury that makes his nose not work or only will some of the time. Oda told me Chopper has long term side effects from rumble balls. My lying eyes told me that Chopper noticed their different smells but decided two years changes a lot. Or maybe Oda just forgot. All I’m saying is that there are many possible explanations, and hopefully we find out one day!

I think the utagard Loki theory is one of the best so far, but I don’t think oda would use a separate or different Loki or have 2 of them, I think he would just kind of smash them both together, utagard lokis tricks are some of the most benign and over all harmless which is why he probably used a version of them instead, regular lokis tricks are usually far more mean spirited or usually end in someone being seriously hurt or out right dying

It’s most definitely on purpose. I can see a belt buckle be mistaken or another small detail like that but a balcony that is first rounded, then straight, or a sword being there one moment and missing completely the other is a bit harder to swallow. One Piece’s art style is already very chaotic to say the least and still manages to be consistent, so one chapter being full of mistakes, nah, I don’t buy it? I do have a question if there are any Japanese translators here: How can 2 versions of a translation be so different that they completely contradict each other or say something entirely different? ‘I’ll pass on this one’ is the complete opposite of ‘I wonder how this one will taste’. I’ve seen stuff like this before where in Water Seven Luffy tells Kaku he sounds much older than he looks (I think that was the French version) but in another he asks him if his nose is made of wood (English, I might mix them up though, this might have been the French one and the other is the English one, can’t remember). Either way, both translations said something completely different. I know that Japanese is a fairly ‘poetic’ language that leaves room for interpretation but in any case every translation should be saying more or less the same thing, minus some nuance here and there. But completely different, or even contradicting translations? That makes no sense to me, so if anyone can help me explain it would be much appreciated!

Japan has some words that simply cannot be translated accurately and Japanese to English or any language isn't going to be 1:1 it heavily depends on the translators interpretation which you need the full context to kinda get it and Japanese is just one of those languages where translations can vary but if the Japanese community agrees the official is more accurate best to go with it

The Utgarda-Loki story acutally has even more things in common than you mention. In the version I know (idk if its the only or best one, probably not), Thor is challenged to a drinking contest where he looses because his mug is actually the sea, and made to look like a mug, Loki is challenged to an eating contest (very fitting for Luffy) where he looses because his rival is actually fire, and made to look like a giant, they are tasked with lifting a giant cat and they fail because the cat is actually Jormungandr, and they have to fight an old lady and loose because she's actually Death. So not only do all of these fit very nicely with One Piece, eating for Luffy, drinking for Zoro and fighting, but in the myth they fail the trials because Utgarda is using illusions to make unbeatable things look like ordinary things, so it also ties nicely with the hallucination speculation.

The voice that woke Nami up was Zeus. She's not asleep. Her knees were scuffed from tripping/falling, and Usopp was injured. Like IRL, not like the Japanese concept of a dream. In dreams, you don't get hurt or die. Felt like a very 'cinematic' telling of this tale. Otherwise this is a "nothing happened, nothing-burger" chapter. 😐 Stephen Paul's translation is scuffed. The Japanese is closer to : 'Luffy is wondering if it's going to be good.' Viz translation is closer to 'Luffy would never eat a cat.' He grew up hunting, killing, and eating big cats, when Dadan was starving him in the foster-home. Remember Big Mom freaking out on the 12-day starvation/fast?😰 The Beehive, bees, and honey are useful ingredients; at least according to the original text (which is the only one you should consider).👌 Right/left panel mirrors are normal, common in One Piece, for aesthetic reasons.👭👩‍❤‍💋‍👨 Oda doesn't draw un-detailed small panels in the background!!!!! StojDoes did the better version of my theory that it's fully a hallucination. Since the call back to the big 3 using their own mega attacks on the giant lion just like they did against the giant worm as the only ones that saw that in alabasta were Nami, Chopper, and Vivi. Where Vivi and Chopper are not in legoland whereas Nami is. Usopp is too however he just got knocked out by same exact cat-lion-thingy. One possibility is for his name to mean "the locked one" because Loki gets tied to a rock in a cave and "locked away" or because of his sewn shut lips(after his prank on thors wife backfired and he had to get gifts to the gods). Another theory is that Loki used to be a title or epithath. Some believe his name to come from "logi" and either showing his affiliation for flames or lies. Personally think the lock makes the most sense but i wont judge you for wanting loki to literally be called the liar or have the powers of a fire deity Asgard means garden of the Aesir. Utgard basically means outland (garden of the outside) because its outside of Midgard. Truly genius^^

Thor and his companions lose every time but they get so close to winning these impossible challenges that Utgard Loki is absolutely scared of their incredible power. So Luffy and his friends terrifying who ever is messing with them with how batshit powerful they are might become a thing
