I really hope your channel gets the amount of subscibers it deserves. You are like the "Robin Hood of Chess": stealing from the rich and the evil (cheaters and opening tricksters) and giving to the poor by learning us how to properly handle a bow and arrow. I love the Speed Run series and immensely enjoy your puns, whits and... your beautiful English accent. You sir, are a class act!

I just wanted to chime in to say that I really like these speedruns you do with lower rated players. I learn so much more this way as you explain all your principals so nicely at this level. Also like the 5min games, as I feel its the perfect amount of time to be able to explain what you're doing but at the same time the videos don't drag. Thank you so much, and hope you do more of these lower-rated games in the future.

Love these speed runs at this rating! You are the only GM I've seen that I'd want to have a beer with, you seem like a super cool humble down to earth guy. I was actually watching an earlier video at work when you said "premature attackulation" & I literally spit my coffee out laughing. Cheers 🍻

Really loving this series! I hope you'll get more subscribers, perhaps it will come faster with content like this, aimed at practically educating the majority of your subscriber-base which would be under 1500 elo I guess. About the Stafford Gambit, yeah I totally agree and see your point about not making trappy openings your main repertoire. But the Stafford is certainly in a different league than for instance the Englund Gambit. The Stafford does not rely on one or two lines in order for it to work, but it has a lot of practicality and venom in it. Even if you don't get to the Stafford Gambit Accepted, then you still have great prospects of getting good positions (and traps) in lets say the italian, the three knights game, etc which can transpose to stafford-like attacks

@3:06 superior control of the dark squares. With black having a locked in bishop. Such a strucure must be like playing with one less piece unless you require the lose of a tempo, then shuffling the bishop back and forth is thr solution. White also controls the diagonal finishing at h7. If black castles Simon will relish a bishop clearance sacrifice. The black knights are also tripping over each other in the centre. It is a horrible knott to be in. White's only weakness is the doubled pawn which can not be attacked other than through black using to many moves or creating a structural pawn weakness.

"Screw checkmate, let's get 5 rooks."?. I'm stunned the Ginger did this classless move. I instant block anyone who does this. I'm embarrassed when I have to promote because I can't mate fast enough. But doing it just to humiliate opponent? Wow. Didn't know that's how the Ginger rolls.

Simon you are in the range where people allow c6 followed by b5 in the Black Lion and then waste quite some moves with their light squared Bishop. Could you please mix in a few Black Lion games so we can have a peek on how to profit most from these mistakes?
@arkanoid75512 жыл бұрын
Very useful, and probably best material to learn how to improve at chess, thanks. I found it funny how he gets pissed at the guy playing the Englund Gambit. That's actually one of my favorite openings with black. I won a lot of games using it, even with 1600-1700 opponents. My general idea after Nc6 is to play d6 and hope that white capture my pawn. If they do I can play Bxd6 and later, after developing the light square bishop to f5 or g4, I play Qe7, and long castle with potential discover attack of the rook to the queen once the bishop on d6 moves. It's surprising how many times white misses the discovered attack. If played in fast blitz or bullet, where my opponent has little time to think, it can be fun. Ok, it's not great chess, but who cares. But maybe after listening to GingerGM's opinion I'll drop it :/

I’m never one to comment, but I’d like to say that I do very much enjoy your channel. Keep going - the content is great and hopefully you will get the subscribers you deserve! Just as a suggestion, but could you play the same openings in every stream? I think it would help the learning as we would get used to the ideas - better to stick to an opening when you first start out as you say!

#forthealgorithm Hurray, go Simon. I'm experimenting with 1e4 2f4 3b4 against most everything with 1 2 or 3 c5 with the plan to rook sac on a3 for black's king's bishop replacing it with my Queen's bishop preventing casseroles, kestrels, car sales, that king rook switcheroo cheat move. Terrible idea, but it works.......kinda.

10:34 you were critical of c6 but doesn't that stop Nb5?
@nat-moody3 жыл бұрын
true but it's too passive. for black, c5 is the main break in the position so there's no point wasting a move with c6. Pinning the knight with the Bb5, for example, would stop the threat without wasting a tempo
@ArgoKios3 жыл бұрын
Nb5 could be countered by Na6, in the opening its better to develop your pieces. Plus move c5 is very tematic, you can find it in a lot of the openings with similar structures. It is one of the best ways to contest the opponent center pawn with your side pawn, which is good

You say all those sensible things in the stream, but then you go ahead and contradict yourself by invariably playing rubbish like the Hillbilly (I've never seen you play anything else) against the Caro-Kann. Sending such mixed messages to impressionable learners make you very hard to trust.
