Ridge vent with box vents is not correct either. One will cause the other to draw. That will short out the flow of air from the eves and possibly draw snow or rain in the box vent or ridge.

I JUST did my first ever roof on my home, and we have some very heavy rain on the way. Bought all the tools to do it(nothing better than having your own equipment), as I saved a SHIT TON on labor. You want something done right, you do it yourself. Self proficiency is key in today's world. Going through videos like this makes me much more confident in the quality of the work I did. I have a total of two shiners thru out the whole roof(between the cutout that makes them three tab), and both are on the very first row at the very bottom where I started. Whoops! The rest of the roof is perfect, but.. I'll be honest, I didn't pull them, I glued another small piece of shingle on top of the shiners with tar. I also made sure to follow the path of runoff and least resistance, making sure vent and gable flashing, were done correctly, with run off going on top of the shingles. I did metal fashing for the gables, and water and ice barrier over the ridges as well as overlapping the shingles over the top of the ridge, and not cutting them. Then ridge cap on top. 6 layers of material on all ridges. Pretty bomb proof. I'm a mechanic by trade, not a roofer by far, but now that I see videos like this, I know I can rest easy and know I don't have to worry about it. This here, is strait hack and slash work, even compared to my very first roof. What a shame. Makes me want to get into the business. As a highly certified mechanic, I can FULLY appreciate the quality, price and speed talk. It's absolutely true. It's the exact same in the auto world, which I've mastered. Great video, thanks for taking the time to teach others thru the mistakes made by the previous contractor. From one high quality badass mechanic, to one high quality badass roofer, I have a new level of respect for the work you roofers do. I thought I was truly a badass, but man, roofing in July in Moab Utah will make a man outta ya real quick. Or it'll kill ya. I passed the endurance test by far. 110 out, still got er done, and top quality to boot. I'll l say this, you guys are truly badass for real. I couldn't imagine doing it in the snow. Much respect and thanks again for taking the time to make the video. I feel extremely confident that I'm good for another 20 years or so. I'll be officially KZbin certified, if it holds up after a few heavy storms. Your videos helped me get it right the first time. I owe you a huge thank you, they were very helpful. You got you another subscriber sir as well as a like and comment for the algorithm!

After seeing your video I realized I had patched it but the seam was not covered. Last weekend I took out a whole shingle and replaced it. Excellent job telling home owners be very careful finding a roofer to replace roof! Leaking roof is probably one of the top headaches of a home owner. The roof looks young but is already beyond repair... probably that roofer who did this job was sued out of business by the unfortunate home owners! I wonder what happened after you told the owner about the roof...

Use legitimate and proven companies from your communities and not storm chasers. After a bad hail storm here in Oklahoma 3 of my neighbors signed up with a door to door roof salesman. All 3 have had to have repairs done due to leaks at least 2x. All the very next time it rained hard after the roof replacement.

I can agree that going with the cheapest roof bid or any other bid for any other construction job isn’t a good idea. I don’t think though that you should insinuate that the people that paid for this roof are to blame in any way for the poor workmanship displayed. They may have paid high dollar amount and not a cheap price and still got a bad job. It’s not always about the price but it’s definitely about the individuals doing the job. Maybe you’ll run into a dentist or a surgeon one day and find out what it means to pay top dollar for something and not be satisfied but that’s a whole different arena.

I typed out a complete description of work for a guy that owns multiple residential and commercial properties. He was shocked to see it in writing, although he is also the cheapest person ever met. Get what you pay for although just because it cost more don't me it's better. Better ask questions or description why your service is better and cheaper in the long run.

If it is a B vent flue cap most HVAC Shops will have what you need. If it's an actual chimney like masonry or something of that, Some roofing companies will put the time into measuring it and getting them custom made. Usually it will be a chimney or a masonry company. Other places I have turned to are sheet metal fabricators. They can bend heavy gauge and make custom caps.

I just had a 60 year old home fully renovated down to the stud walls. When looking for roofer one thing I demanded (of many) was that they HAND NAIL the shingles. Sure you’ll pay more, but it forces them to slow down, and not use what sounds like a fully auto machine gun that is driving the nails way too deep into the shingle and also making them see how fast they can go. Hand nailing and experience and a simple roof line, can’t go wrong.

No if it’s done right it’s done by a professional and somebody has been trained and somebody that’s been trained by the manufacturers we can do nailing with guns and we can do it the right way when your experience you know what air pressure to use what nail guns to use where to nail them, This Comment is over the top stupid plenty of good roofing companies and roofing personnel don’t know how to put roofs down with nail guns
