Roof Leak - How to find and fix a Roof Leak. This roof leak was do to wind damage the owner said. The roof overall was in good shape. It just had a couple missing shingles. The insurance adjuster that came out put a very small piece of tarp over the two missing shingles, but the tarp was not tucked under the shingles allowing rain under it.
The rain water was coming in under it and down into the hole in the paper then into the attic.
I installed a small piece of synthetic paper and gave him a estimate for repair.
Shingle repair uncut from start to finish. This repair was a couple weeks later.

I saved this video ages ago just in case. Just in case arrived. I rewatched this video, made a list, went to the building supply store and fixed my roof. I’m female, approaching retirement age, lifelong desk job - and I repaired my own roof for $108. (I already had the shingles.) I am eternally grateful.

I run service for a roofing company. Mostly commercial flat roofs but I get shingle repair regularly. I also can cosign this work. Personally I prefer rp400 to seal the shingles as it's an asphalt product. Also, I strongly recommend the pac tools roof snake instead of a flatbar.

It's nice to see that not all 10+ year old roofs automatically need full replacement if there is damage anywhere. I appreciated seeing the full process of taking out the old shingle, replacing boards as needed, putting in ice/water, new shingles, and caulking.

Yeah they don't need to but for companies to make their money and to pay for their licenses you absolutely have to pay for a new roof because their minimum amount that they can work for is 3 to 5 Grand here's another Secret some companies higher independent skilled installers I need my label themselves as construction companies what sound more like insurance companies to me when you talk to them the guys they hire are sub contractors

Nice job! You don't have to be a professional, you just have to use common sense and a little bit of aerodynamics . And yes it does apply to water! My deceased husband was a roofer in those times where only big companies had the equipment like nailers. He also used to carry the shingles up on the roof too. They weigh about 80 lbs. My husband's work can still be seen after 45 years. He did a resteraunt with Spanish tiles and they are still on the building! He did many roofs on Seabrook and Kiawah island. Even an executive of Coca Cola. I've repaired my own house and I have to say a good roofer is worth every penny. It is the MOST IMPORTANT part of a home. In my opinion metal roofs are the way to go. It's unfortunate that HOAs don't allow them. Not saying shingles aren't good it just depends on how much you you pay.. btw id like to know if you have a small cut on your vent boot at the top of the rubber that slides over the pipe, is flex tape an easy and somewhat permanent fix? I see where you can buy a rubber gasket to put over one but I just know I won't be able to find the right size one ,if at all, knowing my luck! Or should I just caulk it up with rubberized caulking? The flex tape says it seals out water so, any ideas? Who knew one little v cut could cause it to leak!

@@GrandRoofingInc No that's going to be next move. I didnt like the color of the tile (silver) to go with a tan house, so the county allowed to do an overlay. even ply decks have many gaps which basically a lot of roofers end up blowing nails threw or nails are there but have zero hold... when you hand nail you can easily adjust and just put in some extra nails or pull nail and hit higher and lower. the bottom line is,just because a roof looks good from the road it does not mean it was done without mistakes...
