Grapevine Vintage Railroad, March 2015

Just a few scenes of the GVRR and Ex. Southern Pacific 2248 pulling passengers from Grapevine, TX to Fort Worth.
Starts at the Fort Worth Long Avenue yards, and follows the train at a couple different spots until reaching the Stockyards, and finally pulling off the turntable after turning.

That shot at the 6:31 mark reminds me of that scene from a Thomas episode called Fish in season 4. Where you see Henry pulling the flying kipper at the harbor. You get the feel of this locomotive slowly arriving it’s destination.

Southern Pacific 2248 is a 4-6-0 “Ten-Wheeler” built by Cooke Locomotive Works in 1895. It pulled trains through out the Southern Pacific system. Until retirement in the 1950s. In 1976, the locomotive was restored back to operation by the Texas State Railroad as #200. Then moved to the Fort Worth & Western Railroad and renumbered back to 2248. It was purchased by the Grapevine Vintage Railroad in 1993, and operated at the railroad until it discontinued operations. Today, 2248 is undergoing it’s inspection.

I hope she comes back or someone makes another steam purchase for this railroad soon. Glad to see an F-Unit involved these days with the old GPs, but to not have Puffy or something like her still doesn’t feel right.

A representative from the railroad informed me 2248 will return to service this summer or next

Is this railroad sharing it's tracks with the mainline? That is very common worldwide apparentely. Also, is the steam locomotive still operating or all the journeys mostly diesel powered now?

Puffy is currently out of commission, but is to hopefully return to service late this year

2248 has been out of service for repairs for quite a while not, I think since 2016. Grapevine has been saying that the locomotive should return in 2023, I'm not gonna guarantee that it will happen in 2023 but I'd imagine the overhaul should be close to being finished.

Supposed to be sometime in 2023, or at least that's what the GVRR is saying.
