Batman year one and Killing joke both deserved that specific kind of treatment. It is amazing to compare the two especially with absolute year one in separate books. The recolorization with modern wider spectrum vs original limited colour scheme that utilised blacks in a specific way...it is a time capsule. Both must have for comic art lovers.

Sadly, it's going to be a long time till Lobster Johnson is collected. They collect the omnibuses in chronological order and Lobster Johnson is written out of order... the earliest stories still aren't written yet. But there is more Lobster Johnson coming in early 2021. Also there are three more omnibuses coming this year! (Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: 1952-1954, Hellboy Universe: The Secret Histories, and Sir Edward Grey: Witchfinder - Volume 2)

The Artist's Edition X-Men is one of the most beautiful books I have ever seen. Unfortunately, it's glory is hindered by the camera. This book is so incredible that after it came in and I looked through it, I ordered a second copy. I don't know why or what I am going to do with it. I guess it is mostly a backup in case something happens to the one I opened. That is how incredible this book is: I bought a second copy for no good reason. Easily best book of the year. Words cannot describe the grandness of this book and I would recommend for any X-Men fan to get it. Prince Valiant looks interesting. I'm not familiar with it, but am getting really into fantasy books. Currently reading Elric and it is wonderful. Feels like Heavy Metal meets Jodorowsky in the best possible way.

Long time, no chat. I'm glad you finally got into prince valiant. The art is gorgeous. Vol. 1 is interesting as the early strips have more fantasy elements such as dragons. I recently caught up to 1978. They're currently solicited up to 1982.

That Girls slipcase looks awesome, will have to track down the trades, been an age since I read it in singles. So March and right the start of April has seen the Eaglemoss Star Trek complete at 150 books. About 20 to get caught up on before I can really say I'm done and it would have been nice if it had carried on that bit further and finished off the last few bits of older material but it's easily the most comprehensive set of Trek comics ever put together and a real achievement for Rich having taken over the editorial reigns about halfway through the run and really worked to get some rarity material collected. Other partworks coming in thick and fast, barring any extensions Deadpool is down to the last 13 books (from his first appearance through to around Axis is covered across 80 volumes) and the black spine Marvel from Hachette that's been going over nine years is 9 books off from hitting 250 (originally billed as a 60 book run), I'd fully expect to see that cash cow extended again but you never know, might actually be the end this time. Unusually for me picked up something as it was coming out with Secrets and Lies, with the Transformers partwork wrapping up last year I'm tracking down bits and pieces that weren't covered and trying to keep up with new releases moving forwards. Sentinel #6 came from the Kickstarter, already backed the next one. Little digest sized done in one stories in the style of the old UK titles Commando and Starblazer, really enjoying those. Also on a big Tank Girl trip at the moment. Last new stuff I read would have been The Gifting as it was coming out in '07. Not long after that saw me taking a several year break from buying comics and Tank Girl was something I never really got round to looking at since coming back. Picked up Two Girls, One Tank to sample some of the newer material and will be carrying on with that and also eyeing up a couple of related art books. Reread the Deadline and Vertigo runs in the Titan '02 editions and tracked down a full set of the Manga Publications Tank Girl magazine from '95/96. I'd sold my original set years ago and there are some Tank Girl and Booga short pieces in those that I don't think have ever been collected as well as a full colour version of Hewlett's Fireball that originally ran in part colour in Deadline and again hasn't been collected. That lot came with the three Penguin editions from '95 that collected the Deadline run in full colour for the first time, essentially the same material as the Titan volumes but a quick flick through and I've already spotted different framing material and a couple of pin ups that aren't in the later books so maybe worth having both sets for the minor variations.

Astounding HAUL, Omar! 'Aster of Pan' is, in terms of sequential narrative, an absolute blast. Merwan art is so good that the story is not up to the test...but it doesn't matter when page after page you are invited to a magnificent feast for the eyes. The same cannot be said about 'Brigada', from my countryman Enrique Fernandez, both art and script are SUPERB. Hope you enjoy it as much as it deserves. And Prince Valiant...well, there you have a MASTERPIECE sir, A TIMELESS f"#$%ng MASTERPIECE ;)

I won’t spoil your new BPRD, but if someone’s not read a lot of Hellboy, they’ll be scratching their head by the end of it. Even fairly obscure Hellboy universe fare is almost required reading for this volume. It’ll be interesting to hear your take on it at some point. I’d mostly enjoyed BPRD until now, but found this book soured the HB universe for me. I’ll probably still get the HCs (I really like Hellboy and the BPRD), but I wish Arcudi had stuck around and Allie hadn’t finished the series off. Skyward, though, was a blast of fresh air. It was interesting to see the writer was heavily involved in the Lucifer TV show (which I can’t stand-although Tom Ellis is a big part of that), but it was a fun, breezy ride from start to finish.

If you don't think the art of year one or the killing joke doesn't deserve the absolute treatment, I don't want to know you... Even if the stories were 10 pages long, it doesn't matter. They most definitely deserve the absolute treatment! And including the scripts or two versions of the story isn't a cash grab or "padding". It provides an amazing insight into how to create top tier comics for anyone interested. What is wrong with that? Absolute year one is essentially a college course in making a comics masterpiece.
