Because of his size disadvantage he gets into situations where if he doesn't execute flawlessly he is going to lose within a second or less. His skill is amazing.
@lordfraybin3 жыл бұрын
Huh? His size IS his advantage. He doesnt have to lower his center of gravity to perform a throw. The guys hes fighting have to practically get on their knees to get below his center. That's huge in this type of wrestling. Far more important than raw strength.
@lsz68823 жыл бұрын
@@lordfraybin It can be advantageous in some cases but overall he just has way less options because of lower reach, weight and strength and kinda has to rely on gimmicks to score wins which higher level opponents will adapt to fairly quickly

@@lordfraybin So there's some techniques where strength isn't that important however there's a lot of them where strength and size is a requirement, for example he could never pick an opponent up and carry him out of bounds, even pushing them out is way harder. Sumo is very much about versatility and adaptation. If you're that limited in terms of techniques you're able to use, stronger opponents will be able to exploit that consistently after having faced it and seen it a couple of times. There's a reason why Enho currently fighting in division 2 is still a rare outlier when it comes to size.

I grew up wrestling and i coach a bit nowadays. Love this. Simple and effective wrestling here. His handfighting is active and he his feet are rarely stagnant. Headclubs, underhooks, lots of movement. Circling quick when receiving pressure, and taking scoring opportunities when he cuts the corner. Positioning on the snatch single is solid and he doesnt waste any time finishing. He turns the corner upon taking the single, drives, and shifts opps weight to his free leg. when he was caught in whatever the sumo version of a front headlock is called, he handled it very well. He is expected to wind up here occasionally given his height, and while its not the most advantageous position to be in, he works through it. He stays calm, fights hands, circles out, and digs an underhook of sorts in some of the examples. Taking his opps tie, and making it his. At 5:03 he stays tight on his opps elbow to be stable under the pressure (and that balance was crazy). Id imagine he's spent so much time in front headlocks, explaining why he has a great feel for them. Good stuff! And lastly... the guy even went for a flying squirrel at 10:47 😂my god While all forms of grappling have their own specific techniques and unique challenges, there is always some sort of carryover (usually) (Sorry, im unfamiliar with sumo wrestling terminology😢)

Enho is way stronger than one would think at first. I understand he uses his opponent’s momentum against them a lot making use of his smaller size, but he’s still throwing these larger opponents with the greatest of ease

Enho, more than most, needs the crowd, and a noisy one at that. When the crowd was not there his performances were generally lacklustre, and he no longer seemed to believe in himself. Also, the first couple of basho a lot of the bigger rikishi (that was almost all of them) regarded him as a joke and the easiest points they were ever going to get. It was when they started to take him seriously and as a dangerous opponent worthy of study that he started to lose regularly. I can't wait to see him back where he belongs, in maegashira. Once there, he might be able to get to Komusubi if the gods are smiling on him but I can't see him being able to hold that rank for more than a couple of basho.

He needs to be aware of the high risk of injury derived from fighting 150+kilo opponents, he needs to be strong and smart.

Great video! Have you considered making one on Ura? He's also undersized (not as much as Enho), but is also a fan favorite with an exciting, unorthodox style. He's also much more consistent in the upper division.

I like the concept of sumo and being brute force wins most of the time but I love when they get into the hand fighting combos and techniques with the throws like Olympic wrestling! Really shows their skills like this dude🔥🔥 (sumo should honestly be in an Olympic sport! even though Japan would win gold every single year lol)

Really popular rikishi, and you can see why. Plucky to the extreme; always gives 100%. About 3 years ago he rose as high as Maegashira 4 I think - just shy of the top 10 guys in the game. Truly astonishing, bearing in mind he's half the size of a lot of the guys he has to fight. In fact his lack of height is a big issue for him, often getting caught in awkward positions where he is crouched under the chest of the opponent, or his back gets bent in alarming ways. He's had back and arm/shoulder injuries in the last 18 months, but battling on in the Juryo division.
@myview58403 жыл бұрын
It looks like he can dislocate his shoulders the way he is being bent and twisted.
